I wonder why I've never seen it so active & prominent on other locos? Oh, and after watching part two, besides seeing the grades you spoke of, I totally not sure how I missed that diesel switcher. I must've been more tired than I thought.
That sound of the steam coming out of the behind the stack is from the air pump. Also the railroad has very steep grades and they had too many cars for just the steam engine to pull alone. If you listen you can hear the steamer chugging so the diesel is not doing all the work. The steam engine normally doesn't need the help. They go slowly over the small bridge because they stop there for the mine tour and they go slowly over the big one so people can get a good view.
That was interesting. That steam tube up behind the stack that was making all the chuffing. Plus I always find it odd seeing a train dragged instead of pulled. Also, kinda odd how slowly this mogul was moving, especially at bridges.
What is this air pump? What is it's purpose? And as far as diesel, I never saw one, but I swore I head one and thought maybe I was just hearing things. Haha.

The air pump is used for quite a few things but mostly for the air brakes.

Is this Narrow Gauge or Standard Gauge?
Was that video #12's last day?
I think it's narrow gauge
