  • Hey everyone! In this video we get a pleasant surprise when we find good numbers of pearl perch holding on some shallow reef off the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. We fished a reef in close to shore only a few kilomters out, which is much shallower than where you'd usually find pearl perch in such good numbers and sizes. We also managed snapper, grassy sweetlip, and a couple of small tuskfish along with a cool whale encounter.
    Stay tuned to learn how to catch pearl perch for yourself as well as several other reef fish, and plenty of other little tips along the way for both bait and lure fishing!

    Great vid as always Will. I was looking at those same skutes last week, good to see them in action.

      Thanks mate I appreciate the support! That’s awesome then, I’m glad that you got to see the suncoast skutes in action then! They’ve been great for those bottom dwellers like pearlies, grassies, Maori cod, etc since we’ve been using them. And I’ve been using the same one for 2 trips now still going strong 👌

    Good fish mate. Cool video Will, think I’m up for getting one of the sea anchors going. Bit tricky getting the float going the other day with the wind pushing along.

      Thanks so much for the comment mate, we appreciate it!! Yeah the sea anchors are a game changer - we wouldn’t catch nearly as many fish as we do if we didn’t use one. It’s amazing how frustrating even just a little bit of wind can be when you’re trying to float line your bait down slower with lighter sinkers! Especially in deeper water.
      You still have to be getting your bait down to where the fish are, and the sea anchor is something we swear by. Very helpful!
      Thanks again mate and good luck out there 👍🎣

    Oh man, what a great way to start my work day. Great conditions and great action. The whale was also a nice addition to the day, he was certainly just checking you guys out haha. Good feedback re the way to manage the Pearlies so you don't tear the hooks out and a magic feed that had my mouth watering. Thanks again for the awesome exposure for the Klik Sinkers. I'm so glad to see them working so well for you. It will be interesting to me to see how the catch rate continues between you and your Dad. I see he was using the blue sinkers whereas you were using the lumo. I always find I get more reefies on the lumos but it didn't seem to be slowing your Dad down at all that he had no attractants on his rig.

      Thanks so much mate, I’m glad you enjoyed and took a few tips away from the video!! We were definitely happy to land a good feed of pearlies and the Klik Sinkers have been working wonders ever since we started using them 😁 Dad and myself use different colours (lumo and blue) to see if one is working better than the other, and if so we’ll simply change over. I agree, the reefies have been loving the lumo one some days!
      A few subscribers have been telling me about their catches on Klik Sinkers, so that is always awesome to hear. Thanks again for your support and keep up the great work! 😁👍🎣

    Great session Guys. On another note, I ordered the pills, Cant wait to get them and give them a go. Thanks Will 👍

      That’s awesome to hear Mr Cods, hopefully they work well for you! Most people can get away with just taking one tablet an hour before hitting the water, however dad usually takes a second one 20 mins before hitting the water just for some extra insurance, and he has never had a problem.
      Some people take a second tablet after a few hours on the water if they are worried that the first tablet will wear off.
      Thanks for the support mate and good luck! 👍

    Great session. I have never caught so many Pearlie’s in one session. Where did you get the bait board.

      Thanks for the comment mate, yes we hadn’t done this well on pearlies before either! Usually it’s the guys that head out wide and fish deeper reefs that get the big catches and bigger pearlies.
      It’s a BaitMate baitboard that we’ve had for many years now. They make them custom to your needs and boat which is really good. Ours is removable too if we just want to go whiting fishing and stuff 👍
      Cheers mate and tight lines

    Great vid as always will, why do you have the sea anchor so say out the back? Does it work more effectively? I run mine close to the boat so it can be moved in easily if needed. Also would i be right in saying your at Murphy’s?

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi mate, thanks heaps for the comment and support! We really appreciate it 🙌🎣
      We try to keep our lines as vertical as possible when we are floating our baits down or fishing the bottom. By letting a bit more rope out on the sea anchor, it just keeps it away from our lines a bit. If we use the sea anchor while fishing for mackerel though for example, we often tie it off in close as our lines will be closer to the surface. So we let them out over the top of the sea anchor in that situation if that makes sense.
      We weren’t fishing at Murphy’s here, however we have caught a few legal pearlies there at times! We always keep an eye on the sounder while we are drifting and have noticed that they often show as a wavy line of fish just up off the bottom, and we’ve seen this at Murphy’s before. You will most likely have to pick through a few undersize ones on the shallow reefs.
      I hope this helps mate and thanks again for the support, tight lines 👍🎣

    Good video. Did you forget to include the screen of how you identify Pearl Perch on the sounder?

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you mate!! Yes I decided not to include it as the footage wasn’t great. The glare on the sounder screen and my shaky hands meant that you couldn’t really see the screen sadly.
      I’m planning on making a whole video around what we look for on the sounder in the near further though and setting up a camera to film the screen properly, so it would be nice to come across some pearlies again while filming that one 👍🎣
      Keep up the great videos yourself mate, tight lines!

    Hey will how shallow were you when you found the pearlies? And were you off the gc or elsewhere? Looks so smooth where you were, I was out yesterday at about 70 metres and it was as rough as guts out!

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mate, thanks for the comment! This session was actually up off the Sunshine Coast in 35-40 metres of water - pretty shallow for big pearlies! This video was a little while ago, the weather recently has been shocking sadly. Hopefully the weather is starting to calm down a bit leading into winter. Did you get any fish in 70m the other day? 👍🎣
