Sir, I am very thankful for your tutorials. I was tasked in my company to create parametric families in revit for their equipment, thanks to your video I not only performed, I also exceeded all expectations.
Very good. Just leaves me wanting one thing; how do you create the openings in the shell that are evident in the photo which do not run the full length of the shell, or indeed if such openings are creatable in Revit at all!?
You can quite easily create opening on those surface. try this: 1. Reference - Spline Through Points with Follow Surface ticked, draw shape on the surface. 2. Once you have the closed shape, select all those reference lines and create a void with both Positive Offset and Negative Offset. This should cut a void in your surface. 3. select the same set of reference lines and create a solid surface, then you can place a pattern based family to create some windows. Let me know if you still have questions.
Hey Bin, thanks for your tutorial, always learn things from you! currently I have a large scale battens ceiling in organic shape,(from contractor bim team, but then model is original dwg), just wondering if I can mass a roof basic on that battens ceiling ----like you did here. Thanks!
Nice and straight forward …. Good job Bin 1. Would it makes any difference if the path was a spline thru points ? 2. The issue in reference lines profiles vs not-reference lines is : although you can still edit the profiles at the ends of the form , but you won’t be able to find the profiles in the middle (u think it’s possible to insert such profile compacted profiles with many arcs?) 3. It would be great if u can one time show us (as u can see in the picture in the narrowest part) the transition from the straight part (the profile consists of almost 3,4 straight lines) into 3,4 larger arcs then 3,4 much larger arcs etc.
1. I think the result can be very similar. 2. You can, you need to hover the cursor on the profile and it will appear. 3. All the lines here are arcs, we copy (CC) and scale (RE) to create all the profiles, remember?
Depends. If you model this as an adaptive family, you can change the category to some other, but if you model it as a model in place, I don't think you can change it.
You can place roof/wall by face so you can control the thickness by roof/wall type. Alternately, you can use closed loop as profile so you get solid mass instead of surface.
Try starting with something simple first. For example, you can create a straight path with multiple points. Once the surface is created, you can adjust the points to change the shape of the path.
great video as usual bin , your videos are amazing and to the point. i have a question please : icant do a closed Spline in revit , do you have any idea?
HEY! i really need help Asap! i have tilted wall that should be glass panels, its a triangular shape. i tried mass but i couldnt add glass panels. its just a big block of glass, i tried family like you stated, couldnt work because it was rectangular, and the mass isnt. I really dont know how to do this. plz help! i also tried usin: wall-curtainwall-draw-pickfaces. didnt work. edit: i can provide ss.
You have different options. 1, sloped glazing: model it as a sloped glazing(roof) with footprint and slope arrow. This should be the easiest if it works. Option 2, use model in place mass, place 3 points on the corners, connect then using spline through points, then create a surface using these lines, after that, you can either use divided surface with pattern based family in the mass, or place curtain system outside of the mass. Option 3, you can also use model in place generic model, and place roof by face on it, this might not work with sloped glazing. If you still not sure how, post it in the the file and I’ll get back to you.
First, try creating a form using the same profiles along the path. Then, adjust the profile as needed. You might find this approach helpful. Sometimes, it's necessary to start by including only part of the profiles in the form and then gradually add more profiles into it.
Unfotunately, Revit does not support closed spline, but you can try creating it using 2 splines, and place profiles on each spline to create separate forms.

Thank you for letting me know. Comments like yours are the reason why I am still here.
Keep making Revit videos like this. Awesome job
your practices have been so helpful, sincerely, thank you very much :)))
This is a great exercise 💯💯. Could you please do an exercise where you model the curtain walls as well.
Amazing! Starting to be a fan!
Thanks for teaching.
how can i adjust the base offset/height of the whole massing? because the mass is too high / very elevated to my liking. thank you!

Very amazing tutorial. ❤❤
Thank you. Where can we send you suggestions for youtube videos ?

It's hard to say without any images or diagrams. Could you please post them on Google Docs?
Thanks for the tutorial sir.
THANKS MAN VERRY HELPFUL 👌
You ROCK ! Thanks

Great Bin. Thnx. Is it possible to categorize this mass as Generic Model so that we can change different categories in it later on? If yes, how?
Depends. If you model this as an adaptive family, you can change the category to some other, but if you model it as a model in place, I don't think you can change it.
hello, I.ve created mass and tried to choose window section but It's choosing whole mass not one section, how can I choose one section of whole mass
Have you tried using Tab to select individual surface?
How do you give this a thickness?
You can place roof/wall by face so you can control the thickness by roof/wall type. Alternately, you can use closed loop as profile so you get solid mass instead of surface.
is this just impossible now? I get a self intersecting geometry error no matter how I try to do a profile sweep :(

thanks for responding! I ended up figuring it out, the spline was too sharp for the size of the profile. @@BINHE615
great advice will definitely need it@@BINHE615
Can i make this but using the "spline through points" instead of the regular spline??
I think so. However, they do curve differently even with same points positions.
@@BINHE615 it didnt work with spline though points :( it gave me an error but idk what is wrong
Hello,
i wanted to ask if you could make a tutorial where you make a plan and add a mass to it
Model in place mass on an existing building?
@@BINHE615 yes please

thanks a lot for the tutorial

can you do a video for merecedes benz museum in stuttgart ?
I'm afraid it is more a Rhino project.
how to make it in a close loop shape?

Can you send sample
can you share the model

Is there any credit to the concrete and structure engineers of this work or did they just remember the architects?
All you hear about is Zaha Hadid!
Agree.
Don’t eat and play with your mouth while you talking in the video please 👍🏻

The best way is to adjust the shape of the profile, the surface/mass will adjust automatically.
Thank you
