I watched every shot of his 65 last round at Lytham in 1988 from only a few feet away. Something I will remember all my life. !!!!

So jealous. Too young and unaware of the game. I started playing the day he passed. Things happen the way it's meant to be, but boy I'd have loved to be next to you.

I only ever saw him, in the flesh, play one shot - the one at the start of this lovely collection of clips, the one which, more than any other that week in 1976 at Birkdale, made his name as a brilliant, unique talent.
I was in the crowd which had run across the fairway on the 18th and I shall never, ever forget the groan from people who thought he'd duffed it turning into the biggest roar of cheering and applause I've ever heard, reverberating seemingly endlessly around the stands.
Oh it was magical, just magical.

Charm, grace, good looks, charisma, astonishing ability, Severiano had the lot.
I will never forget what this great man said as he awaited his passing :
"Thank you to all my fans, but please don't cry for me, I've had a fantastic life and career". It still breaks my heart to this day. Its amazing that someone I never knew personally can have such a hold on my emotions.
We love you Seve and huge thanks for some magical sporting moments x

Always grinding and producing winning results when faced with the impossible shot, it soon became obvious that he should never be considered out of the race. Under cars and bushes, on tree trunks, in the sand against the lip, or a ball covered with loads of mud, he seemed at his best when faced with situations where others surely would have opted for an unplayable. He could win from anywhere and often did. On those occasions when he was firing on all cylinders, the entire field knew fully well they were likely playing for second place. He was incredible! I was watching his antics in ‘77 when I realized all that truly mattered in competitive golf was getting it in the jar in fewer strokes than those opposing you. Long howitzer shots that split the fairway made the task easier, but making birdie from a lie in a dung heap was even more disruptive to an opponent’s psyche. He understood the shock value of doing that so he never relented. His focus was squarely on the shot at hand and getting it in the hole. I never once saw Seve’ beat himself up over an errant shot. He looked at what he had and valiantly accepted the challenge. I’m very pleased that I got to see him play. Caddying for him was an exercise in frustration. Nobody envisioned things the way he did, so his caddies weren’t able to remain with him for very many years. Walking in the footsteps of genius can be a real chore.

A friend made a post today on FB that made me think of Seve ... He was a magician. Tee to green, as ballstrikers, many players were better. But at greenside, when the wedges and the putter came out, he never had an equal. He turned more bogeys into pars than any golfer I've ever seen.
And he had style. God love Seve.

No doubt! When he practiced on the range, the greatest players in the world gathered nearby to watch. The sound of his iron shots was unique and partly was what drew their attention. When truly great ball strikers like Nicklaus, Miller, Weiskoph, and Trevino come stand near to watch, you know it’s special.

The things this dude could do with a golf club...unbelievable the imagination he had....it didn't matter what the station, he was am artist and would figure it out

    • @aha3885

@@MarkSmithhhh I guess you know that. But he played the bunkers around the green with a 3 iron. The young Seve, from 11 to 16 years old, was something unique. My dad was born and raised very near to Seve's house. They were friends, and the stories my father used to tell me about Seve and his magic...Sci-fi. The man was an absolute genius.

Greg Norman said it best about Seve. Paraphrasing, he said he played golf all over the world and saw many players, but he never saw anyone like Seve. We will never see the likes of him ever again.

Seve was a poor sport. He's no genius. He should have given the putt to Nick Price in the final round of the 1991 World Match Play at Wentworth after he choked on a fruit cake while Price was hitting his second. Inexcusable. Watch here: th-cam.com/video/6I7EGnzYRiU/w-d-xo.html
