No need for it, especially in regard to a fictional character who cannot possibly be offended by not using his personal preferences. I simply don't understand the use of a plural term for a single entity and every time it happens it really grates on my nerves.

Why are pronouns used for a lead character who is clearly depicted as a male? And a masculine one at that? Ruins the story
