AC16 221A - QPSR Picnic Train - 9/12/2018

On Sunday 9th December 2018, the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway ran the final "Picnic Train" for 2018. With its stay at the railway drawing to an end, the 75 year old 1943 built AC16 221A was rostered on to haul 3 booked out trains along the branch line.
As an added bonus, the railway's 110 year old PB15 448 joined forces with the AC16 to run a double header for one of the services for some testing after some minor repair work.
AC16 221A is due to return to QR at the Ipswich Railway Workshops for a re-tube of the boiler and possibly some other repair work, but it is hoped that the locomotive will return to the railway in 2019.

Great video; and really good to see the magnificent restoration of the locomotives and carriages. There is Something unique and enchanting about the earlier steam hauled trains of the Queensland Railways; something that modern trains have lost.

It does belong to Queensland Rail, it has been on loan to QPSR since July 2017. It is due to return to Ipswich Workshops on Monday.
