- Being a Die hard Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad Fan, Like Many Its hard for me to accept that this is the end of the Universe. there has to be something coming that could connect to the series, Maybe a spin off or even a Continuation of a character ark. As of now there's nothing in the works so i've decided to create a WHAT IF series exploring different potential storylines in the Universe.
So in this video I wanted to give my take on what the series would be like if main antagonist for the first half of better call Saul "Chuck Mcgill" survived thru the series.

Thanks for recognizing the effort

From an electrician, yes it is possible to remove all the electricity to the house. The sad part is that Chuck did kill the power earlier on. When he used the baseball bat to break the meter on the outside of the house he successfully killed the electrical feed to the house..everything that happened afterward (cutting into the walls and whatnot) was useless and further shows how far gone he was.
Interesting, why do I feel more sorry for check
@@murgeproductions Check Mcgill

Lol
Id imagine Chuck meeting Walter would go down a lot like Walter meeting Janes Dad. Talk about family, expectations maybe. A lot of it depens on the circumstances
I think Walter would try to use Chuck as a lawyer for his personal life
Even if Chuck is blindfolded when Mike and Gus kidnap him, he could still recognize Mike's voice and figure he is the same guy that fixed his door.
Maybe but who really knows lol
I think you're right
He'd be panicking way too much to actually pick up on the voices and even if he did ever figure it out, he'd just know that it was someone who once associated with Saul, which would just further confirm what he already knew.
He met Mike once, and 80% of the time he wasn't very talkative, ask yourself if you could tell the voice of your last waiter, now imagine if you could remember that voice while you are afraid for your life
@@calebbarnhouse496 afraid for your life and allergic to electricity
I think a more interesting path would be that when Howard’s reputation gets ruined, it would be Chuck, not Howard, who visits Jimmy and is killed by Lalo. With Howard still alive, I think he confronts Saul at Chuck’s memorial and questions what happened to Jimmy McGill- Charlie Hustle- that he admired and all that’s left is this Saul creature and if Jimmy McGill ever comes back, to let him know. He then ultimately sends Francesca to Howard saying ‘Jimmy sent you’ and ultimately it would be Howard, not Bill Oakley, who comes to act as co-council.
I think in order for Jimmy to become Saul, Chuck had to die. Even if it hadn’t been in 3x10, it would have happened eventually. In order for the story to work, some things are just inevitable.
I see and I love the angle
Dang I wish tv shows had unlimited budgets so that they could just produce a what if series
Right!!
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. That it would've been pretty interesting to see Chuck be the one killed by Howard.
I think the only problem there would be that Jimmy would've not held himself together as well as he did. His brother shot right before his eyes. There's no way he could look Kim in the face and say "it wasn't our fault".
But if he did-- then you could say that would be all the more shocking and easier to see Saul as evil.
@@ObaREX I assume you meant Chuck killed by Lalo not Chuck being killed by Howard? Now that would have been a massive plot twist 😂😂
Interesting what if theory, but if i'm being honest, if Chuck were still alive, there's no way Jimmy would've embraced the Saul Goodman persona like we see in the Breaking Bad timeline. Jimmy became full Saul when he lost everyone who meant to him in his Jimmy life, hence him hiding under the curtains of Saul just to not feel that pain and lonliness. Chuck still being alive and in ABQ, especially with Jimmy/Saul going back to his usual Jimmy routine of bringing Chuck supplies (like you described), wouldn't push Jimmy to become any more saul than he was in (atleast) season 5. Jimmy looked up to his brother, all the way until the very end (with his suicide). He still would've kept that if Chuck lived on, and that would've prevented him from digging himself that much deep in the rabbit hole.
I get where your coming from, and yeah your right! But still I believe Saul Goodman is something that he’s always been (like in the finale when Walter says “so you were always like this”)
@@murgeproductions I think what would be more plausible (if chuck didn’t die) would be Jimmy continuing turning into Saul and working with Walter, but eventually flipping on everyone (including Gus & Mike) with Chuck towards the middle/end of the Breaking Bad timeline when shit really hit the fan. However if that were the case Chuck and Jimmy’s story would’ve had to be integrated more into breaking bad or if anything, Breaking Bad would have to be the sequel to Better Call Saul
I couldn’t envision him becoming the full on evil force of Saul if Chuck hadn’t died
Here’s some what if ideas I have:
What if Jesse died at the end of season 1 (this was originally gonna happen)
What if Tuco was the main antagonist? (Was gonna happen)
What if Hector didn’t have a stroke?
Screenshot taken. Thanks for the ideas
@@murgeproductions you’re welcome, your what ifs are really good! I struck gold by finding these
Aww thanks, I’m actually finishing up a video as we speak, it’s like 13 minutes long and I’m 8 minutes in so…stay tuned
Wasn't it only just supposed to be Tuco was the antagonist of season 2? I doubt he was someone they wanted to have for the long game.
@@Robert___98 yeah maybe. I might have mixed it up with him being the main antagonist for the whole show
This is a really interesting question. Brushing aside aside, it’d change everything. Jimmy wouldn’t repress all his grief and blame Howard for Chuck’s death, Howard wouldn’t spiral into his guilt, his marriage might not fall apart, Jimmy wouldn’t go after Howard for successfully dealing with his feelings, Howard wouldn’t accidentally antagonize Kim, Kim’s guilt about Chicanery wouldn’t go unresolved. At the very least D-Day probably doesn’t happen.
Idea for a story
MilcGill vs Goodman
A variation of if if chuck survived years later Walt gets caught at some point while hes working for Gus. In the case of Walter White vs the people Albuquerque or how ever that works, Chuck see's that Saul is representing Walter and after years of trying to fix his reputation after the events if the chicanery episode and he decides to take the case against his brother.
No more spinoffs. It's okay (and crucial) for good stories to end.
True but tell that to the mcu
this is fanfiction, not spinoffs
thats what people said when breaking bad ended. when every season of bcs ended, they insisted “leave it at that”, and if the writers had taken that advice, we never would have got to see lalo, or the masterpiece that was saul gone.
What if Chuck would have never Blocked Jimmy from making Partner at HMM after Jimmy landed the sandpiper case?
Happy ending - Jimmy gets the approval he always wanted and feels like he earned it. Howard, Kim and Chuck hold him accountable from pulling any Slippin’ Jimmy stunts at HHM. Jimmy and Kim become happily married and he never becomes Saul.
The exact same thing that happened at Davis and Main
@@---bg9dq the thing is Cliff couldn’t replace Chuck even though he pretty much was the supportive older brother Jimmy needed. That’s part of why he fell back into his old habits
@othervids3726 nah Jimmy can't help himself look at the billboard jimmy was under Chucks wings at his point and didn't want Chuck to know.
But he still did it when Chuck said you can't help your self that's what he meant
@@---bg9dq because Jimmy needed to get clients, which wouldnt be a problem if jimmy had a jonb at HHM, I think it woudlve been better if jimmy was hired at HHM after becoming a lawyer, and chuck and Jimmy wouldve had a big long converstation setteling their differences and chuck helping jimmy bocome a good lawyer
I seem to be in the minority where I don’t think we need *another* “expanded universe” beating a dead horse. Let it lie with BCS, it was amazing while it lasted.
Definitely get where you’re coming from and if we don’t get anything else from the BB/BCS universe I’ll be ok with how the series ended, but if there was a story that is good and makes sense, within the world created why not?
@@murgeproductions I don’t necessarily disagree, the problem is that at this point we seem to have seen all of the relevant portions of the cast’s lives that are actually relevant to the story. I’ve seen people cry out for a Mike prequel but watching him be a dirty cop going about his business in Philly wouldn’t add anything beyond what we already know. I suppose the only realistic example I can think of would be a young Gus in Chile but that narrative would be so detached from BB & BCS that it’d be content for the sake of content. The only logical link-ins would be “how the cartel have heard of him” and “how he started Los Pollos Hermanos” which are more Easter eggs than plot points that add value to the existing shows in retrospect.
Yeah agreed, lalo did so much with so little

Not a dead horse, a slowly dying golden lion.
As much as I would love Gillian and Gould to expand this universe and these very compelling characters they’ve spent over 10 years on this world so I understand the desire to do something new
I find it funny how in all these situations, Howard typically dies in all of them
I mean he dies in the original
@@murgeproductions fair
Suprisingly, in the scenario with Howard not dying, Howard doesn't die
@@dragonslayer7724 on one of his vids he talked about that what if, Howard dies either way
People underestimate how smart Chuck really is. He was a formidable foe against Jimmy and Kim (albeit they werent as harsh with their scheming like they were with Howard) He also fought against them using nothing but psycological emotional warfare since he doesnt break the law. If he became a criminal and wasnt so petty he wouldve been dangerous
I like this ‘what if’ vid because it still plays into breaking bad without interrupting the timeline with chuck being alive.
Jimmy's talk of time machines was foreshadowing
I shouldn't have laughed as hard as I did when you said "never kicked the lantern" 😅
What if Nacho Killed bolsa (i'm so curious about this one)
What if Lalo killed Gus when he shot him.
What if Jessie never quite the meth business in season 5
What if Howard survived
What if Mike was with Gus when visiting Hector
What if lalo didn't fake his death
I’ll take some of these ideas off your hands
Good suggestions but I am gonna add a even better one what if Walter white survived the ending of bb and went into hiding ,while the series goes on he completely beats cancer and is left living in the shadow of his former glory until he finally breaks bad (little addition he also gets a new "Jesse")
If Mike was there instead of Tyrus he would've identified the bomb as soon as Hector started dinging the bell and could potentially shove Gus out of the room, dying in the process but saving Gus. it'd be a bit silly but we could even see Gus become wheelchair bound in hospice recovering from being in the blast radius as a taunting Walt pays him visits
If Nacho killed Bolsa that'd be interesting, because not only was he a middleman for the Gus-Hector relations a lot of the time but it's also his personal connections within the law enforcement that allows the cartel to operate smoothly
it’d actually be cooler if chuck had a conversation with the guy who led jesse’s rehab group thing because if the timeline matches up correctly he would’ve killed his daughter recently and we could see how much of a mess he was 3:02
Technically you can get rid of all the electricity in your home but it is incredibely dangerous to get rid of it by hand, even with some random yellow gloves and what seems to be some sort of metal rod
Lol good to know
@@murgeproductions since you asked I thought I'd share some knowledge ahaha
This is too wholesome for the gilliverse.
12:37 i know it’s a serious moment, but hearing “with his space blanket on” made me laugh too hard.
So something I've recently considered: Chuck established that its pain caused by current flow in the bar hearing right? But a cellphone battery shouldn't produce any current until it gets plugged into a circuit. In other words, chuck could've used a minor understanding of circuitry to explain away why he couldn't feel the battery in his breast pocket. So I guess: what if Jimmy's chicanery failed?
Maybe when Chuck visits Jimmy in prison, he brings some of that mint ice cream.
Maybe…
Wow that was pretty good man, I was mowing my lawn with my earbuds on and I could picture everything in your “what if”story like it was tv. Great job dude.
Thanks man! I love that kind of feedback, definitely have more on the way
@@murgeproductions 👍 nice! Already subscribed and about to listen to your nope video
Thanks dude enjoy
Gilligan and/or Gould would do well to hire you as writer if they do another show in this universe. You are really good at coming up with plausible well thought out stories.
Appreciate that bro, maybe one day
I could see Chuck having a change of heart and finding some technicality that gets Jimmy a much lighter sentence
A great ending scene to this would be a wide, full color shot of the cemetery Howard's grave is at. It's bright and sunny, with the various gentle buzzings of the nearby transformers and sounds of vehicles passing by. The camera focuses on footsteps approaching the grave, a pair of loose, tan loafers. The shot widens to reveal Chuck, but instead of his usual dark jacket or suit and tie, it's a lightly colored summer outfit with a weave hat. He has the most calm demeanor you've seen him with on the show and overall he looks like he's gained a healthier physique. He stands silently at the grave for a moment then replaces the flowers before leaving. The shot remains a panoramic as he walks further away from the headstone, symbolic of the closing of his chapter with the law/HHM and his battle with EHS.
wow i loved this. always been a fan of your vids and the effort put into them. such an amazing AU. better call saul could never end that happy. i wish chuck and him could have amended
What if Chuck could have let go his grudges towards Jimmy and giving his brother the chance to be a Lawyer at HHM, ultimativly becoming another M at HHM ? and I talk about the time where Jimmy still worked in the Mail.
I think altough episode latern would be a little less impacting, if this scenario had happened, I think the ending would've been a little more satisfying. Besides I like how the story evolves with him living
My only question is, would mike risk chuck recognising him from when he was at chucks house? Now granted he's got a bag over his head but he might recognise the voice. I think mikes too careful for that and he might have someone else speak or not even be there. And if he's not there, chuck probably just gets whacked since gus doesn't have the same reservations mike does.
out of anyone on the team to expand the BB and BCS universe, it would probably be Peter Gould. Vince Gilligan has stated numerous times that he’s done with Breaking Bad and related content. which makes sense since he’s currently working on a new apple TV+ show with Rhea Seehorn. Peter Gould was already an executive producer behind the terrible cartoon show “Slippin’ Jimmy” so it would make sense for him to stir up something else. perhaps bring back the shorts that Breaking Bad had.
I actually thinking Howard doesn't die in this version either. IIRC, Jimmy was messing with Howard because he blamed him for Chuck's death. With Chuck alive, Howard doesn't get screwed with by Jimmy and come over and get shot.
The plan to go after Howard was partially done as revenge for chuck
I did say I was jumping over a lot of story lol
I like to imagine that Walt went to Chuck to sue Gray Matter (basically what Saul suggested to Walt in Saul Gone)
id like to think that when jimmy was on the run (and/or , if it still hapens, durring bagman) chuck missed him and thought about their relationship and came to a healthier understanding of what hes responsible for and what he isnt :-)
Not gonna lie, I prefer the direction the show went. But if they did go this route this is pretty close to how id see it happening, they'd probably throw us a few curveballs that wouldnt be possible to deduce from what we saw previously imo
I’d like to see this remastered, been a year since this all started and it’d be cool to see a modern adaptation of it
I want a spinoff about Ed the disappearer. It would be terrific
Here’s hoping AI is so intelligent to give us some potential breaking bad spinoffs without needing the returning actors because some are either too old, too big or too gone.
I have an idea, what if Chuck somehow became Walter's lawyer ?
Chuck would NEVER have taken that case, and would have prevented anyone else at his firm from accepting Walt as a client.
that's why it had the word somehow, like by being forced or something@@MomMom4Cubs
Howard never gets humiliated because a mentally sound Chuck shows up at Jimmy's hearing to get reinstated, and likely has enough clout among his peers to convince them to not reinstate him, and possibly in fact, make him disbarred. And if Chuck got wind of the burner phone escapade, it will happen even sooner. Jimmy never becomes a lawyer ever again.
Easy answer: “You're Slippin Jimmy”
i think the best spin off would be young firing... they really did not talk much about he life in chile.
I think the Chuck visiting Jimmy ending would actually be BETTER. It goes back to when Chuck visited Jimmy in jail in 1992. Jail is where he belonged. They’d be on much better terms but think of how many lives would’ve been saved if Chuck “stomped him” when he had the chance. I think this ending would bring it back more full circle.
I like to imagine Jimmy's confusion at Chuck just popping up at the jail before Chuck asks him to sit down like he's a lawyer and Jimmy is the client, Chuck tells the guard there's no need for the door to stay open and the two talk.
Jimmy would certainly comment about this being what Chuck always wanted: him behind bars. But in a matter-of-fact tone, before his tone switches to a more joking tone to lighten up the mood and at Chuck's stoic expression.
Only for Chuck to say something along the lines of how at first he did, but he realized he wanted Jimmy to understand if he does or does not belong here and he's proud of him for not only finding an answer but finally owning up to his mistakes. Much to Jimmy's surprise since Chuck isn't the kind of person to give Jimmy compliments all willy-nilly.
Even when he looked after him while he 'had' hyper electromagnetism sensitivity, this is the most genuine conversation they've had in a long time. Might even be the first.
The conversation slowly shifts to memories of their parents, as last time this happened their mom got Chuck to get Jimmy out.
As they talk, Chuck plainly lets out, "She called for you," to Jimmy. Which confuses Jimmy. Revealing to him how their mother in her final moments, wouldn't stop crying for her youngest.
Jimmy is confused and a little angry as to why Chuck lied to him about her saying nothing, only for Chuck to reveal that he didn't want Jimmy to live with the guilt. But now he realizes it was out of some jealousy, and Jimmy deserved a better brother. Their parents playing favorites shouldn't have come between them and Chuck should've fought harder to have Jimmy in his life because he wanted to, not because he needed him.
Jimmy responds to Chuck to imagine what both of their parents would say if they could see them now. Jimmy asks Chuck the same question he asked Mike & Walter what he would do with a time machine and any regrets.
Chuck would hesitate at first, before wishing he would go back and stop their father from being robbed, with his regret being not hiring Jimmy at HHM.
Jimmy would add he wishes he hid more money in their dad's old shop and a gray sports almanac like Biff in Back to the Future 2.
As the two share a small laugh before Chuck makes sure this is really what Jimmy wants and the younger McGill would tell him he doesn't have to worry, it's s'all good man and all worrying is s'all gone.
Chuck promises to make an effort to... no, he will visit Jimmy often at least once every week and the two bid farewell.
Saul Goodman may be gone, but Jimmy McGill is back. And he has his brother back.
I know it's a big stretch, but I like the idea of Chuck convincing Jimmy to sing, "Winner Takes It All" one last time, as a parallel to when Jimmy did that for Chuck.
In my opinion there's no way Jimmy and Kim would've scammed Howard had Chuck still been alive. Jimmy couldn't have become Saul Goodman knowing Chuck's eye was still on him. I also doubt Howard would have offered Jimmy the job at HHM, which is what later inspired them to pull the scheme. Good video nonetheless
I saw new parallel scenes. When Saul and the college student film crew are trying to get an establishing shot at a school, Saul makes up an excuse that Rupert Holmes went to school there. Then he sings the Pinacolada song. Late in season 6, Kim is in Florida and talking to her girlfriends and sure enough, the song playing in the background is the Pinacolada song.
it might be (very) boring but what if chuck actually got happy about jimmy getting a law degree and realized that jimmy was trying to turn his life around and helped him in getting a better law degree? again, probably boring, but still interesting to give some thought.
I like the idea and it’s worth me looking into, thanks
@@murgeproductions oh nice. tbh i was just spitballing something that popped into my head towards the end of the video 😂
That’s usually how I begin my videos lol
@@murgeproductions a great philosophy in my opinion. usually where the coolest ideas come from
Agreed.
This was great, but I really don't think Jimmy would've gone through with trying to ruin Howard if it weren't for Chuck's death. A big influence on Jimmy wanting to ruin Howard was his inability to cope with Chuck's death
That ending is just beautiful
WHAT if.....gus SURVIVED the wheelchair bomb??🤔
Solid fan faction my friend. You earned a sub. Very, very well done.
Welcome aboard! Happy to have you
8:00 Though I don’t know if it would’ve altered the scenario in any way or not it would’ve been interesting if Chuck had recognized Mike’s voice from the time Mike came to his house in order to fix his door and secretly take photos of the living conditions in the house for Jimmy. Chuck would’ve been like, “may…may I ask…do I know you?” Mike would have replied with something like: “That doesn’t matter”. Chuck could have also brought that up to Jimmy later when he questioned him about one of his cartel clients murdering Howard.
The concept let alone the video, fucking magnificent. Keep it up🫡
I won’t let you down 🫡
I saw a comment about Walter having Chuck as a lawyer, and if you see this I second that, would be a cool thing to see
Would be cool to see a early Jesse like we see him in Walt's class to eventually becoming a crystal head cooking his first ever batch without Walt like him badger and skinny Pete meeting Krazy 8 all that stuff
Amazing vids!
Got a topic: what if Kraft 8 actually called?
What if Kraft 8 re raised all in?
Both scenarios Krazy 8 taking money from Lalo
Couldn't they become a team? McGills to the Rescue?? They would do more low tier, social cases, but avoiding scams and cartels and especially Walter White.
What if New Mexico wasn’t a one side consent state?
What if Lalo Salamanca stayed alive during Heisenberg era? Make this a series!
Hmmm…that requires some thought
Lalo surviving almost for sure would mean he kills Gus in Point and Shoot. After Gus's death, Mike and his men would come in after realizing Gus is now alone, but they come back to a dead body and Lalo would likely shoot down everyone, and would kill Mike after taking a bullet to the stomach.
With Gus and Mike dead, Lalo would eventually come back to Jimmy's house. It's unlikely he would kill him, but he'd press him for answers. Jimmy would tell the truth here and it would convince Lalo enough for him to leave, but not before he threatens him that since Gus and Mike are gone, he has no one protecting him.
After Lalo shows Eladio the video recording, Lalo would likely be promoted to second in command over Bolsa, with Bolsa being demoted as Gus (who worked under him) had been revealed as a traitor. The Salamancas prosper, Jimmy and Kim likely get arrested for Howard's death, and Walter White without Gus and likely Saul Goodman if he's even still around would either quit early on or more likely get arrested.
Do you mind if I use this? I know exactly how to spring board off this topic
@@murgeproductions oh, sure. I was just theorizing lol
@@murgeproductions Piggy backing off of this, assuming Jimmy and Kim manage to clear themselves as suspects through some insane circumstances, it's unlikely Lalo would ever be caught as he's long gone in Mexico by now, though Jimmy and Kim would likely live in fear of Lalo. Kim breaking up with Jimmy still happens and Jimmy would fully embrace Saul Goodman. Saul works with Walter White but he'd probably have to deal with the cartel himself considering Gus is dead. Maybe we get Neo Nazis vs The Cartel idk.

I think what they mean is that Jimmy would've been stopped if Chuck didn't die. Like, the conflict the two had couldn't just stay as it was forever. Something would've had to give. Interesting take you've got here, but I doubt even Gus and Mike's interference could have prevented Chuck from taking Jimmy to court in one way or another. For one, Chuck would have no problem being the "sacrificial lamb," so to speak. I mean, hell, this is still a guy who tried to kill himself over the whole Jimmy situation. Furthermore, there's no way on God's green earth that both Mike and Gus would agree to (1) waste resources spying on Chuck or (2) even take the slightest chance that he would go to authorities. A little bag over the head isn't enough to change his entire personality long-term. Mike and Gus know this. As long as they have use for Jimmy, they're not taking any chances with Chuck. That's a half-measure if there's ever was one.
