      My thoughts on the inset of your bedroom ceiling; I thought a lightly patterned wallpaper that compliments the wall color would look really nice and cozy.

    I know most people prefer warm light, but I always swap out the bulbs to daylight when I move it. It feels brighter, crisper, and happier to my family.

    Great video Vivian, and very timely as my wife and I are transitioning our home of 18 years to a new look. We took your advice and banished the "Tuscany" vibe. Now the walls are bare, most furniture removed and we are in the "contemplation & research mode". Your videos have been an inspiration. Thank you.

    I definitely agree with the curtains tip and would like to add to it!
    When I walk around my neighborhood, I notice when people are only using 1 set of blackout curtains. It feels weird to see the 'dark lining' exposed to the outside-- it almost looks like trash bags as curtains. I would suggest using a double rod to do 2 curtain layers (one solid and one sheer) to mask the dark lining facing outside.
    Also take the time to iron your curtains. It's so much nicer not looking at a wall of wrinkles!

    I like when ceiling trays have a ledge type moulding with warm, dimmable LED strip lighting hidden above it to help the ceiling glow.. sometimes gives a skylight effect.
    Also just love ornate moulding on the ceiling in there.. 😍 I know you’re a moulding gal 😉

    As a Brit I don't vibe with the obsession with panelling at the moment. I agree panelling can often be beautiful but in the UK, it's a feature that denotes a period home of a certain age and brings that context with it. I can see why people want to add a bit of grandeur and interest to their homes, so I don't want to yuck anyone's yum, but if overdone for me it can feel a bit out of place and like interior cosplay, much like how I wouldn't decorate Farmhouse if I lived in a modern apartment. Just my opinion ofc, and I'm not an interior designer!

    • @PoshPennies
      @PoshPennies  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      agree! sometimes it can feel overdone/out of place and the topic of interior decor choices in combination with a home's context/age/location is a very interesting one!

    • @LouciferFlump
      @LouciferFlump 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      I agree with you, it belongs in a period home. I think that slapping coving up can work in almost any home, there’s so many styles, but the panelling obsession is lost on me🤷🏻‍♀️

      @@PoshPennies yeah I struggle with it. I don't think it's fair to be a snob and say to someone (for example) "you can't decorate your suburban home like an English country house." If you love it, do it. But equally it doesn't look as cohesive if your personal style is fighting the architecture of your home.

      @PoshPennies In the UK our housing stock is so varied. A lot of people tend to make interior choices based on the age and style of the building.

    I like the idea of adding the trim/molding to a flat boring door. I've never thought of doing that.
    My husband and I have used it in our dining room. It really does add what I call class, for want of a better word. 😊

    The moulding on the door tip is pure genius. I think I’m going to try it coz I’ve hmmm’d and haaaa’d about getting new doors with a little more character to them! Why bother??!! This is *so* doable….and much cheaper!!! ❤👌🏻
    You can also paint your vents the colour of the wall. I’ve got dark coloured walls: dark green, dark purple and black. Especially if your walls are dark, you hardly notice them if you paint them (mine are quite small vents, however, high up towards the ceiling).

  • @rockshot100
    @rockshot100 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Yes on the molding for the hollow junk doors. There is a vid here giving the dimensions from edge of the door, you want to have almost an inch higher on the bottom than the top, but top and sides should be equal and from the center line of the doorknob horizontally, it is 2" up and 2" down. Love the baseboard ideas, but personally I think the molding and all cabinetry should be one notch more glossy than the walls. Somehow that just looks right.
    Good to see you.

    Last year I changed out the fancy trim over my half height TnG for a plain one and painted it and the walls white. It looks beautiful and more importantly timeless. The best part is that the corners of the fancy trim would catch your upper arms and bruise them if you weren’t careful. For $45 and the price of a nail gun, the lounge and dining were done (only TnG in the house). The hire gun at the local hardware store was broken so I had to buy one. Most ceiling heights in Australia are 8-9 ft so adding beams isn’t really an option but they look great in all those tall ceiling rooms.

    Poshy, I wondered what happened to you. Great video. On my return air vent, you got me thinking. I have the slats, it's punched out sheet metal. I painted it more of a tan/beige to match the walls but still looks bad.
    I can cut out the slat section and glue that same stuff you used. Then, frame out the edges with thin molding around the fixed part to the wall, then again frame the raw edges of the "door" with another thinner half round molding. I did not know but that new sheet metal has a coating, you clean that off with alcohol, then a light coat of 'etching' primer, or any primer, like Killz. You cannot put latex over the etching primer. I found out the hard way with my mail box., you have to use lacquer over that.

      if the color relates to other things in your room then it's being done in a more intentional way and there is less of a chance of it looking weirdly disjointed from the rest!
