I Built This Sketchy Wooden Trail Over Massive Rocks

- As I work on building a technical mountain bike trail, I thought this next project would be an easy one. My plan was simple a quick rake and ride through a chunky rock garden. As I cleared away the fallen logs and leaf litter, I uncovered something unexpected. The rocky section had way more potential than I imagined. What started as a straightforward project quickly turned into something much more ambitious. Combining both rock and wood for an epic technical descent.

I love this video man, awesome time lapses. Can’t wait to see the rest of the tech trail dude
Do you still make vids
Everyone like Froffs comment so he can see how much we miss his videos!
Froff, dude! Where have you been!! Everyones missed ya. 😊
Good to hear from u mate!
please start posting again for ur people😅😅
I was going to cut my hair but then I remembered that cutlaps has long hair
Not only do you make me want to get my bike fixed up to ride again but you make me want to build stuff too! Thanks for the motivation
Yeiwww get that bike fixed. You won't regret it
You're living my dream man! Thanks for bringing us along!
Your vision for trail building is as good as your ability to bring a real vibe to the viewer through video.
That feature looks so scary to me but I’ve seen enough of your work to trust it and even I would hit that.
Appreciate you mate
Stoked the vibe translates in the video. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Mick
Cutlaps you are my favourite TH-cam since I watch you from the start you have got so so good at ride and trail building. I know that you are in the middle of a trail build but could you build a jump line near the old table top keep up the get work. Keep on shedding and so excited for your next video 🤘🤘🤘
Hey mate. Yeah a jumpe line with at least 3 or 4 jumps in a row would be great to practice on.
As a scientist, I appreciate you using the proper scientific name for the kangaroos. “Hoppy boys”

It's a good day when cutlaps posts
I love that you combine building wooden features with rock for a tech trail instead of just rearranging rock which most would do. It reminds me of the Tour de Gnar but smaller. I was also thinking thats a good place for a catchment berm down the bottom, you could really dig your back wheel into there and get some nice shots.
Didn't think I could top a cruisy Saturday arvo with a few coldies, but this is the icing! Your vids are so easy to watch and enjoy, and educational, and haven't seen many others screw wood into rock. Great job, and it definitely fits the bill of tech trail
Solid concept stringing the "A" line together with trees! It's great you were able to re-purpose! I like that the "A" and alternate lines are next to each other, allowing a range of riders to enjoy riding together!
Hey dude! its been a minuet, i cant believe the journy! ive been athcing you since 1k subs and its been real. Heres to 100k!
You’re my favourite TH-camr i’ve been so excited to see your new video sick vid love the idea.I’ve been waiting.😊😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I’ve been waiting to😂😂😂😂
And the idea is so good
Wow, really awesome you managed multiple lines on that rockgarden. Shows how creative and crafty you've become. Keep it up!
7:47 YOUR COMING WITH MEEE! 😂
Wow grate building and impressive riding. Can’t wait for the next one, keep it up
Thank you
I find it crazy that u say an advanced rider could when in my eyes and over camera you look amazing on the bike love the videos and can’t wait to see what you have planned ❤
My 5-year-old Ted is obsessed with mountain biking and loves your videos, he dreams about building his own mtb park. Winning one of your tee's. Awesome rock section, it looks a little tricky! Look forward to the next vid!
Love this so much! So great to see this sort of content from a fellow Aussie who knows how to have fun and take the piss when required!
Always gotta take the piss. Lifes too serious otherwise. Thanks for watching.
It’s a good day when there’s a new Cutlaps video!!!! Great build and riding 🙌🏼 Happy belated birthday! Good call on keeping the grass bush. Can’t wait for the next video
Thanks Matt. Its an interesting area of the property with those long grass bushes. They only grow in a few areas so it was cool to leave as much as possible.
@ the more natural looking the better. It would be cool to see more landscaping or even nature art like an Andy Goldsworthy inspired natural art feature or bike inspired trail statues. Like the rideable art in Bentonville but natural looking. Even a video where it’s not about a new feature but about upgrading or landscaping older ones to look cooler. Or adding trail statues and art along the entire trail? (That direction wouldn’t be as natural themed which is fine). Seth from Backyard Trail Builds (soon to be “Alt Line”) did some awesome art-trail-features already, but I think there’s more room for a lot more ideas. (I realize art is so much more time consuming it might not be worth the time).
Amasing vid! I was waiting for a new one for a long time. I just stumbled across your account and I saw all your vids in 2 days. You really inspired me to go more outdoor and be creatif. Thank you!!
Stoked to have inspired you to get outdoors and thanks for watching all my content.
Happy Belated Birthday! Was fun to see how ya built this. Gave me some ideas for a trail I'm working on.
Cheers mate! Are we going to see some build videos from you?
Awesome video as usual, I love how you always chop the construction down into easily followed steps… means we all can use your features and ideas on our own builds!!!…🤘😎🏴keep it up, can’t wait for the nxt instalment…
Sick feature! I love the rock/wood combo and leaving the grass in for visuals was a good visual touch. A lot of the jank never comes across on camera as sketchy as it is in person.
The bunnings music is so good 2:49
Another classic piece of viewing, very much enjoyed it!
Great to see how you're progressing so much, not just as a rider but your trail building skills are impressive.
I rode Narooma shuttles last week which was great, i also plan to get to Eden this year so if/when I do it'd be great to have a ride at gravity if you're keen! Would love to have a go at your trail too, looking so much fun! Happy to dig for a day or two in return! 🤙
Great video mate, an insane idea to connect the stones with the wood, super built and great realised. It's always great to see the test drive. I hope you didn't pick up any more ticks in the bush. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend✌. Ride on🤙
Oh mate I get so many ticks. Every day hahah. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
I have always been stoked on the idea of making 2 paths on features/A line and B line. Keep up the good work.
Yeah this one is cool, there are lots of lines down and a few that I haven't tried because they look a bit too hectic for me at the moment. I may get a friend to test them first haha
It looks sooo nice and i wish i could build my own MTB trail with this length😢. You can feel very Lucky 🍀to have do a big forest to build it. But Ilike your Videos a lot and you give me cool inspirations for me. And don‘t stop with your Content do it your Way!🚀
holy does that trails look sketchy, happy birthday and u have really improved ur skills from when i first started watching you. keep going man love the videos
I’ve loved watching these trail building videos they give me inspiration for building features of my own in the future keep up the great work 👍
Great job on the build, that feature is sick! I'm sure it's a lot steeper in person but even on camera that thing looks scary. Kudos to you for riding it sir!
Thanks mate. Glad that it still looked scary on camera.
Yayy!!!!!! your back!!! Winter Was so boring without you, man.
Looks like such a fun feature, smashing build
wow the new stuff on the side amazing!
9:20 crazy the amount of time and effort not only to film your outings but measuring, cutting, transporting something small like those bits of timber.. All for a few short seconds on TH-cam. Keep up the good work:)
Nice work mate! I reckon this is one of the best sections you've built, especially with the scenery. Wish I could ride it! Keep up the amazing work.
The algorithm only just introduced me to your videos. I'm in the process of building a trail on my parent's land and I'm getting so much inspiration from your videos. It's wonder right now here in Canada but can't wait for spring to get going so far I've only got about 25% of my trail finished. Thank you
Thats awesome. What have you built on your trail so far?
@@cutlaps just some bridges to cross a few streams, a couple berms, just trying to something in place to ride and for my parent's to walk before I add features.
@@noshunnumber1 Sounds like its going to be great fun mate. Good work
same
Bro I always show your builds to my dad that does biking your awesome and everyday I wish I could ride in your trails with my dad
Happy Birthday! Keep up the good work.
Great video mate. Tip for this kind of technical riding is learning to track stand on flat ground and get good at it which will allow you to have more balance on the skinny bridges going down the rocks and then good brake control helps with nailing this type of feature.
I loved this video! I wish I had somewhere I could ride like this. thanks for another great video
Always a good day when cutlaps uploads
Happy birthday mate! Been here since 4k subscribers, love the channel
Yeiwww thanks for joining me on this journey for so long
@cutlaps omg I didn't expect a reply, big fan and I live in Australia so if you're opening up to a public ride in a while it's a possibility I can come!
@@Alexcellmachine I'm heading to Eden for my first race at the end of the month. It's called the Kamikaze and I am not ready haha
I found your channel recently while looking for inspiration for dirt bike trails I'm starting to make on my property, and man! Such awesome builds and you quickly became one of my favorite channels. Been binging your content. You've also really got me wanting to get back into mountain biking!
Thats awesome! I have a WR450 but hardly ever ride it. It always needs so much work haha. So I mostly stick to MTB. Would be cool to see you build some epic features for a dirt bike.
@cutlaps Haha fair enough. Sometimes the maintenance can get annoying, but I also love working on bikes. Definitely nice to just be able to ride and not have to worry about it, though. I plan on filming my go at making the dirt bike features from what I've learned from you and Backyard Trail Builds. Would be awesome to make a series with the footage. We gotta see you send the WR down the trails! 😅
@@korabeats_ Mate I would watch that series! Get it done. Haha the 450 is way too big for the trail. Too tight and probably not any fun. I have a TTR230 that would probably be more fun on the trail. Although it would destroy my berms
@@cutlaps Good to know! Definitely helps motivate me knowing people would find interest in that build series. Very true. 450's aren't the best bikes for tight single track/trails. A little too big and powerful. I love 230's as trail bikes! Not too big, not gonna scare you with the power but still plenty powerful. Just great bikes all around. I miss my CRF230 for sure. Them berms would be collapsed and have a bad time... It would be a sad day my friend. Haha.
That looks sick🤟 can’t wait to see the final result of the whole Teck trail
I've had a shitty day, but dude, you haven't just made my day, you've made my whole week. I hope to be like you someday man. Greetings from Spain!
Sorry you're having a shitty day but stoked to cheer you up 🤟
This video was a 13 minute banger cut laps you do such a good job. If you keep up this work you will be in millions of subs in no time 🎉
Thanks mate! Stoked you enjoyed it
Sick to see you wearing a lad science tshirt. Awesome video great to see the process of building something then riding it for the first time. 🤘
i love your videos they have inspired me and my mates to start building our own jumps cant wait for the next vid
Really cool feature! I know camera doesn’t make the steep stuff justice but you hitting your back wheel says it all!
I've been waiting for this day for what feels like so long now. Thank you Cutlaps for uploading and happy late birthday!!
(p,s: I shouldn't have watched the tick part while eating 🤢)(p.p.s: you should call it the rockathon because its a marathon-length rock feature 😂)
Hope I didn't make you wait too long lol and sorry for the tick part haha
you should make a skinny on your tech trail that makes the front tire and back tire go on two different paths. almost like a helix. keep up the awesome work!
Just like Seths from Backyard Trail Builds. I'll ask him for some tips.
@ exactly, but i know youll have your own spin to give it.
Happy birthday for the other day looks sick would love to ride it nice work
I wondered why you didn’t post for a while but now since you’ve posted it feels better that you are doing fine and nothing bad has happened
Mainly because it takes so long to edit a video. But filming a build and getting all the camera angles takes ages as well
@ it does take a while to edit
Love your trail builds. Be great to come and ride them!
Well happy late birthday Luke! Sick build as well. seems like theres a lot of ticks at your place lol...
Amazing job, looks sick!!! Cant wait to see what you have planned for the rest of the trail
Love your vid’s man keep up the good work
love the video, ive been biking for a few months now and that looks so scary
that looks so sick I love your vids and i would be so happy wining that that top but i just cant beat some of the comments and you should put a roller then a shark fin after the drop😄
I hate builders regret.... build it, it looks SICK... and then you can't drum up the courage. good on you for the follow through. love the builds. keep it up.
Theres always something in the back of the mind because a feature has never been hit before. I guess its a bit of fear of the unknown
@@cutlaps that's why we keep on building.
Happy Birthday, Bro, This Is an Excellent Feature.
Makes me so psyched for skiing season going back into biking season!
Oh nice. How much longer do you need to wait?
Another banger of a video as wntertaining as usual. Also a jump over a stump of a tree would be pretty cool or something similar to that. Keep up the amazing work 👏 👌
I’ve been waiting for this forever
My favourite video. Epic!
Thanks mate
Fav channel. Love the red gloves haha just the right amount of matching.
Your videos give me the “move from Gold Coast to orange nsw to the in-laws 100 acres build my own trails” vibes. So sick!
Ahahahah mate you are so bloody close! It was actually move from Sydney to the far south coast of NSW to build on 100 acres of my dads property". I miss my mates up there but its been worth it.
Awesome build, mate. Do you think an advanced rider could boost it from the upper bridge to the lower wood feature?
Thanks mate. What advanced riders can do alwasys suprises me so I wouldn't say no. Its a pretty solid impact going from the final bridge to rock and I wouldn't want to do it at high speed. I think advanced riders would gap the whole thing, only problem is at the moment there is no where to slow down haha.
YOOOOO NEW VIDEO LETS GO!!!
Looks sick, I understand how hard it can be to find time for fun things when life is so busy! Hope you can keep making videos tho
love your videos been watching since day one and have been a huge fan. you have inspired me to make my own trails too keep up the good work
I think a great name for this feature would be “rock and roll ridge”!!!
Onya cobba. Good to see you pushing the boundaries of what you're comfortable with.
Please don't yeet yourself into that fence though
The best perfect 14 minutes spent in my life
Sweet build! Love it!
You trail builds are great to watch, I look forward to the next one 👍🏻
happy birthday mate the feature looks sick and so fun to ride
Great video! Love your Chanel.
I wish I had these trail in my back yard. Well i kinda do but the are a little ride out of town and the shire is working on making more so I cant wait for that. I also built one of your kickers and i use it to jump my drive, anyways sick video and sick as trails keep up the good work!!!
It is my birthday in 19 days🎉 I loved❤this video it was so nice to watch
I was waiting for this for ever
Sick build, good commit to riding it.
happy birthday man
Yewww - another ripping vid! Love the before and after. The A line looks hairy as!
FINALLY A NEW UPLOAD LETS GO
Love your vids cutlaps, i hope i can build a backyard trail one day too, can't wait for your next video
No way, its my birthday too. Happy birthday!!!!!!!!
Great tech feature! Love it. Looks like you may have room to add one more wooden skinny at the bottom. ❤
I'm thinking of some wooden skinny before it as well. Need something in between the rock drop and then this feature
That looks crazy cool tucked into the rocks like that. Might want to work on that landing trail though!
Finally a new video
Solid job on this one mate 👊🏻
Great Woodsy Carpentry, bro. Nice challenging run you're making.
Every day a wake up turn phone on and check if I have a TH-cam notification for a cutlaps video keep doin the stuff your doin
Always great fun watching these builds been waiting awhile and this video doesn't disappoint. Btw a name could be wombats rocks or wombats lair.
super sick video man, love the futures
Love the new feature well done! 👏 You could name it Rockin Roller 🤙
What a feature. Definitely giving me ideas on how to built wooden features 👌
Nice!
