Hello Sir, hope you are doing well. Myself Akash Vyas & my area of interest is rehabilitation robotics. After completing my B.tech in Automobile Eng, I have worked for 1.5. Years is a healthcare startup. Now, I have applied for joint mtech-PhD in mechanical Design at IIT Jodhpur and I have cleared the screening and first interview round. Just before the second round I got a call from one of the assistant professor of electrical engineering department & he said he has selected 2 students, me and one other guy but he will take one of us, he asked me id I'm interested. My second interview round is done now I'm waiting for the results. So I thought I should see his profile and his previous work to get some Idea, now the thing is that the AP who contacted me has finished his PHD fr IISc in 2017 and that postdoc from 2017-2019 from Israel institute of technology & if I join I'll be his first PHD student. No. Because for research in theoretical physics you had to have a strong background in pure physics, i.e., you had to have a masters in Physics, which is important because you have to study the very intricate areas of theoretical physics. For an idea, download "The Course in Theoretical Physics" By Landau & Lifshitz, that is the basic criteria of studying basic theoretical physics. Engineering is the applied side of physics. Also, you had to have an extremely strong command on mathematics, especially areas of pure mathematics, like Number Theory. People in engineering, in India, are not exposed to fundamentals of pure mathematics, applied mathematics and theoretical physics. Besides, only a few institutes, only 6 or so offer PhD in theoretical physics in India.
@@shk082 Consult the professors at your Institute, they will have better suggestions. In order to switch from engineering to physics you can do M.Sc + PhD integrated from IISc too.
