  • In today's first ever Python Music Short, I make music from a string of text in Python!
    If you want to try it yourself, you can get the code here: git.sr.ht/~marcevanstein/musi.... To run it, you'll need to install the SCAMP libraries for computer-assisted music in Python. Instructions for getting up and running can be found here: scamp.marcevanstein.com/
    Also, consider taking my course on Kadenze.com, which will guide you step-by-step in getting started with Python and SCAMP, and also helps supports my work: www.kadenze.com/courses/compu.... Further information on lessons and workshops I teach can be found here: teaching.marcevanstein.com/

    Finally, have I found you my brother!!! I am a self taught pianist...and right now I have started the design and development of a music pedagogy software I shall call "Scale of the Day"...I am a bloody computer science amateuer and am only able to implement stuff as slow as a turtle with the support of LLM and github, google...and lost of try/error...
    Your work is most amazing and I am certain that you have already solved so many of the problems that I haven't described, observed or even recognized...
    I have stumbled upon this beautfilul software to visualize music and various input "Magic Music Visuals"...and I was pondering about using it for many purposes.
    Just to create more visually appealing videos; as I am already wearing too many hats and cannot become a master video editor any time soon, without taking time out of my own study, practice, or recording session...
    Long story short...I wanted to implement a chord dictionary that sends OCS-messages to the MMV (magic music visuals) that will display the interpreted chords in the same color code as the played MIDI notes...I will try I little bit more own my own...as I really want to understand and get good at programming...but time is a serious constraint...
    Thank you so much; I dont even know where to start!

    Just curious, the doc allows the following:
    performance = s.stop_transcribing()
    performance.export_to_midi_file(args.output_file)
    But, the output appears to always be Piano even if the session was Guitar. Any way to set that?

    Extremely inspiring. As a musician I reallly enjoyed your work. I couldn't resist trying your scamp libraries but I guess my computer is too old with Mac OS 10.10, as I get the message "could not find module fluidsynth lib" (I checked and the fluidsynth is in the package list directory). Maybe should update JAVA ? Or by a new computer ;-(. Or is there an alternate solution (connect to pianotech instead of fluidsynth / oher synthesdizer available ?) Anyway, perhaps it is not the place for this kind of question. Keep doing the good work. Cheers

    I failed in the language PureBasic to receive SYSEX DUMP from my hardware synth. Have you had any luck doing that in Python?
