Harvesting Peonies at the Proper Stage

Peonies are one of our first big crops in the spring here on our flower farm. We wanted it show a few examples for harvest stage and harvesting techniques to maximize this early crop.

I like to think outside the box and go against the grain....few days ago i cut some Peony (at a public area in my neighborhood, very 1st time) i didn't know how to care for them so i turned to TH-cam, i had many small unopened, immature buds on the stems with the fully mature ones, based on the suggestions (that the buds have to be a certain size to fully open) i felt bad discarding the baby buds, i decided to keep them and placed them in a small vase of water 5/29/22 & add some cut flower food.
*I AWOKE ON 5/30 & TO MY SURPRISE ALL THE LITTLE BABIES POPPED OPEN, BY 5/31 MORE ARE OPENING....I HAVE ALL THESE PUFFY BALLS OF BLOOMS, SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!😁 🤗🥰💖

Thank you so much for your educational videos. I have a field with 7 varieties, 1/2 acre, on their 2nd summer, and they are between breaking the soil for the last stragglers, to about a foot high, with buds visible on the top of the stems! Your farm is beautiful! Thanks again, for sharing!

you can extend vase life by placing the buds in the refrigerator for one day- not the freezer.....
