I really appreciate that Markus is requesting these cult classics. I don't think anyone else has reacted to this, it makes such a great change from the more obvious contemporary stuff.
Theatre of Blood is a camp classic. So much silly fun.
I circled my calendar when I saw you were doing "Theater of Blood"! I saw this in the movie theater when it was first released and they even have shown this on Turner Classic Movies on nights they salute Vincent Price !
I covered it in my podcast a few years ago and had a great time discussing it. I never see it reacted to either.
The critics that Price kills were are all top British character actors from stage and screen from the 40's,50's, 60's and 70's having the time of their lives spoofing and saluting the acting profession at the same time . The critic electrocuted in the salon was Coral Browne who was married to Vincent Price in real life.
Vincent Prices grand father invented cream baking powder and Vincent was himself good cook, Cooking Price-Wise: A Culinary Legacy, his cookbook.
Of course Los Angeles Film Critics Association (founded 1975) gave him a lifetime career award, to avoid any problems 🙂
The critics were all English character actors actually. Ian Hendry, Coral Browne, Robert Morley, Harry Andrews, Michael Horden et al.. all English 🏴
@@rnw2739 To some primitive Americans we think there one and the same. As England counts a Briton at least before brexit
Holy shit Diana Rigg is in this!? I LOVE her!!! Emma Peel is one of my favourite characters!!
When I was a young teen I saw MANY Vincent Price movies including this one.
Miss Marple to Captain Mainwaring
" Horace , you're snoring again!!!"
Absolutely superb 😂😂😂😂
*THAT’S* Joan Hickson? She looks so much younger than she did as Miss Marple!
every eccentric Engllish actor of the era got a part in this. Vincent Price, king of campy horror and comedy. One of his last movies Edward Scissorhands, also the original of The Fly. Much beloved actor, one of a kind
@Cheryworld The original House of Wax was another classic that 'll be a good one to react to and you're right Vincent Price is rightfully referred to the king of campy horror his over the top acting is what makes him so memorable .😆
Hope to keep classic horror films alive 🧟 🎥
Happy New Year
CHEERS .
An absolute cult classic. Vincent Price a true Horror Movie Icon, hams it up mercilessly here in a crazy way to kill all the people who done him wrong in deaths from Shakespeare plays. Really is a great slice of camp 70's comedy horror. Good choice guys.
Vincent Price married Carol Browne who he cooked in the chair at the Beauty Parlor. The late great Diana Rigg was the awesome Mrs. Peal on the Avengers and the Game of Thrones. I had the pleasure of talking with her after a Broadway Show and that was a treat.
Typo? Her name was Coral Browne.
The best parts of this movie are Vincent Price's various disguises that he assumes throughout the film to lure and kill his victims. Perhaps the most bizarre one is the giant afro wig he uses to pose as a hairdresser.
YES!
More classic British Horror please!
This movie was packed to the gills with recognisable faces!
Please more Hammer movies, Peter Cushing, Cristopher Lee!
You'll love it!
I very much agree.
My favorite Vincent Price movie ❤
Always enjoy Vincent price, loved his 7 Edgar Allan poe movies well worth watching them. house of usher is my favourite
The opening with all the murders in Shakespeare (not ALL, by any means) is so cool.
So no one noticed the late, great Eric Sykes as the police sargeant. He was in one of the Harry Potter movies, but a well loved actor in the UK. He was in "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines" as Terry Thomas's driver.
He was also totally deaf throughout his career although you would never guess.
and he played the gardener in The Others, which mr and mrs movies watched a couple of years back
@@andy0liver Ah good one, I might have seen the film once a long time ago ...I think i might have watched their reaction but I'm, not sure, I'll go find it :). My best memories are the TV series "Sykes" back in the day. Him & Hattie Jaques were so good together.
I'll admit it is tricky to recognise him under that moustache though.
Best line = "Yes sir I think I hear as train" 🤣
It's "Richard III", where George of Clarence is drowned in a barrel of wine, specifically a kind of wine called Malmsey.
I have never heard of this one. But I do enjoy Vincent Price. I really like him in The Pit And The Pendulum.
The Fly, House of Wax and The Tingler are my favorite Vincent Price movies, among others. He's an absolute classic.
House on Haunted Hill, a personal favorite.
Phibes.
Fun Fact: Diana Riggs (Edwina) said this was her favorite of her movie roles to play
And she played Shakespearian roles on several occasions.
And she was Mrs. Emma Peel in the series "The Avengers".
She was in game of thrones!
and the Mrs Bradley Mysteries tv series a very good series@@atggarden5251
And her surname is Rigg not Riggs.
Before even watching your reaction I have to say that I am SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!! that you are watching this!! I love Vincent Price & this is probably my favorite film of his. He really goes for the gold & it looks like he has having the time of his life playing Lionheart. Dame Diana Rigg is equally wonderful. Theatre of Blood is so funny & snarky & gruesome & just a DELIGHT to watch! I also think it's better than the somewhat similar Doctor Phibes movies - also starring Vincent Price. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do. Love to Markus for requesting it!!! 😍😍😍😍
As an avid fan of Emma Peel from "The Avengers", when this movie came out, it was Diana Rigg I was watching for. Yes, she is great. For those who don't know Game of Thrones' Lady Olenna, here she is in her heyday: th-cam.com/video/idtYckLIZnI/w-d-xo.html
But this movie is chockful of great actors, who all should get to be familiar: Robert Morley (th-cam.com/video/nbb42_sIkm4/w-d-xo.html)
Michael Hordern: th-cam.com/video/kdSstDrnZSo/w-d-xo.html
And, of course, Dennis Price: th-cam.com/video/lTOeAGSV5Ro/w-d-xo.html (yes, that's Alec Guinness - Obi Wan - playing eight characters)
OMG OMG -- I love this movie so I am so happy to see you react to it! I really hope you do more Vincent Price movies! I first saw this on Sir Graves Ghastly Presents back in the 70s or 80s in Michigan!
Yaaay!! I love Vincent Price! He has a lot of good films to choose from, but here are some I would like to see reactions to: "The Abominable Dr. Phibes," "The Tower of London (1962 - he's in both the 1962 and 1930 versions, and they're both good, but he's the main star of the 1962 movie doing what amounts to a popular culture version of "Richard III"), "Masque of the Red death," "The last Man on Earth," "Confessions of an Opium Eater" (which is a very WTF film), and "Witchfinder General."
They’ve done Phibes, and hubby was getting it when he noticed a “similarity” of themed revenge murders-Most Price fans consider Theatre the unofficial “third” present-day movie, with Edward as Phibes’ modern spiritual descendant.
This is a classic. Love the use of Shakespeare, very inventive kills. xx
There's something I never got before at the beginning. The first critic is killed in the manner of Julies Caesar. Just like in the play his wife has a premonition of his death.
Hamlet is probably my favorite Shakespeare play. A bard is a playwright and Richard the III and the II are both plays about kings. I love a lot of Vincent Price's Edgar Allan Poe films from the 60's, and I also like his Dr Phibes films.
I particularly enjoy the 1963 film (The Raven), where he is joined by Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre & s very young Jack Nicholson. :)
2:52 - "he's real mad at her". I thought it was impossible not to recognize the scene from Othello 😁
Coral Brown, playing the only female victim, and Vincent Price fell in love while making this film❤️🎩
One of Vincent Price's best. Thanks for this!
Diana Rigg was an absolute smoke show.
Thank you.
The Pink or purple liquid is Denatured alcohol (called methylated spirits in the UK) intended for sale as a cheap fuel or solvent. It is mixed with additives to render it poisonous and foul tasting. Dye is added to prevent its 'accidental' consumption in place of legal alcohol..
Good to know.
It tastes better than hair lacquer.
I'm so glad to see you react to this one! Such a fun movie, and it seems to be relatively forgotten. Thank you for this!
Shakespeare had it easy at school. He never had to study Shakespeare.
i love how they mesh Shakespeare and Horror together, you can tell price is having fun bringing the classics into the horror genre
The killings seem to related to the seven deadly sins, in addition to Shakespeare’s plays.
Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride, they’re all there.
All in all, this classic film still holds up today with its horror and dark humor.
I think it says in the movies that the deaths are all from Shakespeare plays.
So...which deaths are connected to which sins? Because that's not what was intended.
@@TallyDrake None of them. The deaths are just Shakespearean. If any of them did appear connected it would be purely coincidental.
@@eddhardy1054 My question was meant for the one who made the comment to further elaborate, but thanks for confirming that it has nothing to do with sins.
@@TallyDrake I know, I was just agreeing with you...sorry!
Purple Juice is 'meths', Methylated Spirits or Denatured alcohol. Used as a Solvent of fuel.
In the UK 'Meth-Head' used to mean people who drank it. The colour comes from an additive dye.
Toast racks are great.I can highly reccommend them.
The scene where the man is being force-fed hisdogs reminds me of how foie gras is made.
A soft boiled egg with buttery sliced toast sticks (aka "Soldiers") for dipping... yum.
Wasn't expecting this one great choice.
Although I recognize that Theater of Blood is considered to be a cult classic and that Price can show his chops as a classically trained Shakespearian actor, I personally much prefer Vincent Price's performance in "Fall of the House of Usher" or "The Masque of the Red Death". (Also, the stories are way less predictable and the movies themselves are beautiful to look at.)
The pillowed wife played by Diana Dors,in her younger and slimmer days billed as uk answer to Marilyn Munroe 🎩
Her screen husband was first of cast to die, dying in 1973 (the year the film came out),the last was Diana Rigg, who played the daughter who died two or three years ago...most of the cast had long theatrical careers in real life🎩
This, like the Phibes films,is not intended to be totally serious...🎩
This is one of my top 3 horror movies of all time, along with both of the Phibes films! Vincent Price was one of the best actors of all time!
Favorite kill is the Dog Pie!
Another great Price film is The Last Man on Earth!
Vincent Price has named this the unofficial third and final Dr. Phibes movie.
Really?...nothing to do with Phibes films, bar lead actor (more Phibes films were planned but not made)🎩
got a softspot for this one, great fun
Hello Mrs. & Mr. Movies!😊 The woman killed in bed was Diana Dors. In her younger years she was a blonde bombshell in the company of Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, and Mamie Van Doren. Diana Rigg became very popular after starring in the 60s espionage TV series "The Avenger's". "The Raven" (1963) is a Vincent Price film that co-stars Boris Karloff, and a very young Jack Nicholson.🤯 It is an entertaining film from Roger Corman. Great reactions to another great Vincent Price film, Kids!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
Love this movie, one of vincent price's greatest movies
For those who didn’t brush up their Shakespeare, the woman electrocuted in the beauty shop was from Henry VI Pt. I, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. The silent films in the opening credits were all the featured deaths from real 20’s silent films of the Shakespeare plays.
And some of the modern movies are easy to understand without having to “translate”: Ian McKellen did a fantastic Richard III and Laurence Fishburne did an underseen Othello (with Kenneth Branagh as Iago) both in 1995, and Anthony Hopkins was the appropriate pie-baker for 2001’s “Titus”.
Vincent Price is always great fun! By the way, a good thriller for winter is 1987's "Dead of Winter" starring Mary Steenburgen and Roddy McDowell.
Favorite Vincent Price movies: House on Haunted Hill, The Fly, House of Wax, and The Tingler.
The Last Man on Earth (1964) with Vincent Price
The Omega Man (1971) with Charlton Heston
I am Legend (2007) with Will Smith
Reacting to those would make you the first reaction channel on YT to do the entire Richard Matheson "I am Legend" trilogy of adaptations.
i liked half of the I am Omega movie it was half good, by the asylum, the loss of the mind of the man (played by the iron chef Himself) 2006/2007
Mrs. Emma Peel from the series "The Avengers" (1961).
Karate-Emma made the actress Diana Rigg iconic.
It's a cult classic.
An absolutely brilliant film 😂😂😂😂
Most gruesome kill was definitely the beheading, but I enjoyed the hairdresser performance immensely. My favorite Shakespeare plays are Hamlet and Twelfth Night. And Vincent Price had so many delightful movies. The Abominable Dr. Phibes, The Raven, Tales of Terror, House of Wax, House on Haunted Hill, House of Usher… but the one I recommend is The Comedy of Terrors because it has a bunch of classic scary movie actors and because it’s very funny. A hidden gem, even.
Dang, wasn't expecting to find a react to this. Classic. Markus is getting it done.
I kind of hope that Tarantino's last movie is just a version of this update, it is going to be called "the movie critic after all"
Edwina is played by Diana Rigg, she was the old grandmother Tyrell, on Game of Thrones.
The purple liquid was denatured alcohol (ethanol) which is treated with substances to make it taste bad. It used to be a cheap way for vagrants to get drunk. It was used as an industrial solvent.
it was methylated spirits.
This is the only time the phrase "nice chest" has been used about a movie featuring Maddie Smith and it did not refer to her.
The Purple Juice the homeless folk are drinking is methylated spirits which was dyed purple as a warning that it was not for consumption. A lot of down and out people died from frinking it anyway.
BTW the Detective is Milo O'Shea - the original Duran Duran in Barbarella. The band took their name from the character. His sergeant is Eric Sykes - a staple of UK sitcoms - who was also briefly in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince as the caretaker who is murdered before the opening credits.
If you are looking for a fun TV series to watch Diana Rigg was wonderful as a female detective in the Mrs Bradley Mysteries.
🤣🤣🤣
Saw the campiest version of this on stage in London in 2005 starring Jim Broadbent! Hilarious play!
I love this one. Vincent Price got to ham it up in a big way. So sad Mrs. Movies didn't enjoy it.
Diana Rigg was also a Bond Girl in her younger days. I'd place her in the top 3 of all the Bond Girls.
Favorite Vincent Price -House of Wax, or House on Haunted Hill. Shakespeare - Twelfth Night. Most gruesome death- Butch the Hairdresser.
Two more Vincent Price recommendations, The Raven and Comedy of Terrors.
another great Vincent Price movie from this time is the Abominable Dr. Phibes
This movie is funny on so many levels. Vincent Price's over the top hammy renditions of the "Great Roles" is delicious.
This is the greatest Vincent Price movie of all next to witchfinder general. It is tremendously entertaining from beginning to end with a great movie soundtrack.
Omg, can't believe you're doing this one🤣
The movie was fantastic
I would say my favorite Vincent Price movie from this era is The Pit and the Pendulum. My favorite Shakespeare play is Macbeth and my favorite movie version is the one with Orson Welles. I even have it on Blu Ray. My favorite kill was the pie, something else Game of Thrones borrowed from this one, lol
You guys should watch _Othello_ with Laurence Fishburne and Kenneth Branagh. You will get used to the language, really, you just need exposure. Also, you might enjoy Diana Rigg's two seasons of _The Avengers_ (British series, not Marvel). Dennis Price (Devlin) is the one committing murders in _Kind Hearts and Coronets,_ another fun murder comedy.
Mr. And Ms. You Me And The Movies ever seen the Dr. Phibes movies?
Take a look at Vampires 1998 John Carpenter did a pretty decent job in my opinion... it was my first time watching it yesterday.
Vampires was a ok film to me when I first saw it in theaters when it came out.
I'd recommend Vincent Price in The Witchfinder general a classic horror set during the English civil war.👍
Diana Rigg was so beautiful... Great gory little pot boiler
Diana Rigg was beautiful I remember watching the rerun of The Avengers Emma Peel was sexy. Her Daughter actress Rachael Stirling is just as beautiful like her Mother.
Was she the girl in the BBC drama Tipping The Velvet? I think I remember somebody mentioning she was Diana's daughter. I forgot that this film also had another Diana in, the sadly missed Ms. Dors too. We had some great actresses back then.@@ZavaXavier
the Purple Liquid was something called Methylated Spirits
A classic!
I still love this movie.
I'm happy to see that KingCobraJFS managed to turn his life around. Keep it up, brother!
"Good way too a New Year"_'Arguments'
I would love to see you react to 'Witchfinder General,' known as 'The Conqueror Worm' in the US. It's more serious than 'Theatre Of Blood,' and is probably Vincent Price's greatest performance.
Vincent price as dr phibes and richard lionheart played a Jigsaw jhon cramer killer with eccentric traps each topping the next one
I often try to pair this film with another, thematically similar Vincent Price film; "The Abominable Dr. Phibes"... It predates this film, and is well worth a watch...
I also requested a Vincent Price movie! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
Just saw this recently. Did not expect a reaction on YT.
Don’t think you need to know about Shakespeare to enjoy this… but it probably helps to know all the actors are really loved character actors and the things they’ve all been in 🤔
#RIP Diana Rigg(Price's Daughter in the film) and her final film Last Night in Soho a brilliant film. Vincent Price was later known for horror and he is Yale Educated. Laura and the Oscar winning The Song of Bernadette were some favorites. Some good horror from Price: The Last Man on Earth, The Masque of the Red Death, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, and Fall of the House of Usher.
THANK YOU for doing my fave Price films.Recomend the 2 Phibess films too...especially the first ❤️👍🎩
Great choice!!
Wellwe got Freddie Jones, and Vincent Price
Happy new year guys❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Also, a classic 80's horror would be Beast Within
This is the daughter again. The character of the play was Cymbeline, i think
my mom and I love this movie grate video
you should watch this movie post mortem it a really seary creepy movie
Don't know if it's Hammer Horror. I love that stuff. Emma Peel...
wow, what a a rare one. Fine film
"Actors have... sedatives?"
Bill Cosby did.
Happy New Year 🎈🎊 you me and the movies
The lady you said is nagging played the best Miss Marple
I always thought this movie as the third part in the phibes movies as it's the same traps and deaths of all those that had wronged Vincent price God rest his soul
If you’re going to do some Shakespeare Henry V the David Branar version probably the easiest to start with. Marlin Brando as Mark Antony is good there’s also As You Like It.
I don't think Vincent Price ever made a bad movie.
Hi and happy new yr everyone. Well I don’t like to do this but this viewers pick was I think a second movie I couldn’t sit through!
My reaction was much like Mrs movies reaction to the Riddick movies haha. But for me they are classic sci-fi trilogy. Anyway to each their own and hoping next one will be good.
Its not a YM&TM video without the star of the show making her cameo!
So we can't call them Mr. & Mrs. Bard...
We still have hope for 'poet' or 'minstrel' or even 'versifier'!
My bet is on 'balladeer'...
Prices favoret roll. Don't over think it.
It is an outragious dark comadey . A great big hey
what if ....? That is part of the charm. The who obsedity of
it all.
