I unironically love this. It feels like the real-world grown-up version of all the watches you used to get from Burger King or McDonald's in the late 90s.

orange and grey go well together and is commonly used (not just gshocks but all over the world in general). however, i also agree with jody that the transparent colors do not work together as good as solid ones. anyway, this watch is far from ugly, it's just a hit or miss.

Compared to the other GBD-200 model this reminds me of the era of transparent N64 and Game Boy Color-models, I like it! Would probably go for the green/yellow 9ER-version though.
One of the best designed g-shocks ever. Even more so in person. Bought it just because of the design. Airplane mode on to prolong battery life and to get rid off gimmicky functions
Grey + yellow/orange is a very common - and, I think, handsome - color pairing to express "utility." I might prefer one of the other color options, but this one seems fine to me? I really like the display treatment in terms of the clarity, style, and scale of the text, and love the idea of having an always-on world time screen. I've probably scrolled past its listings thousands of times without realizing any of this, as product shots always show the step graphing screen, which just looks kinda like a powerpoint slide. But thanks to this review, now I want one!
I love the GB200 and I love this color setup; orange, yellow and grey is a pretty wild but nice color scheme. I personally chose the purple/black/grey model. It reminded me of the transparent gameboy color I had, my first handheld console ever, and it's a much more sober color scheme. But if I hadn't chosen the one that I have, I'd definitely go for this orange/yellow/grey model. Really sleek and eye-catching. I honestly don't know what you're on about lol
Notification - set - do not disturb - on your phone. I set mine 19:00-07:30. I receive no notifications between those hours. I'm (now) running the gbd 100 - another g for you to look at? A great runner/fitness G-Shock. Got it for £60 from £150.
Agreed. That is why I got my steel square with a positive display. But I have seen the GBD-200 in person. And I was surprised by the display. Next to the Braun BN0106, it's the only negative that I actually liked.
I ended picking up the light grey/off-white model as my first Casio. It is my favorite of the color options. I'm not too wowed by the notifications so I ended up sitting them off. Great review Jodi. I hope you are able to get back long term video.
Just got this watch. I was going for a simple black bulky g-shock. After going through just a few options, my friends absolutely loved this watch in the light gray color. I like this watch the only thing I wish I would prefer improve is the battery life, as it is said to last 2 years and other G-shocks last 5-10 years.
I’ve had the neon green one for months now and it gets tons of wrist time because I sleep with it. Can’t beat the vibration alarm to avoid waking the Mrs. I don’t use the fitness functions or notifications as much as they are fussy to set and I don’t want it beeping at me constantly. Even with all that turned off, it’s still a great looking G Shock (depending on the color:) with a killer display.
It’s worth noting that the dual time function is also great as others have mentioned. I used it often on a recent business trip to keep an eye on my home time.
I have this in lime green and it's great! I used to wear my 5610 for running just because i thought a tough cookie would be the right one for the job. Now with the GBD-200 the 5610 has a lot of free time to sit on the window and recharge...

Its not ugly its so unique🤗😊 you might miss it whens gone..I had an old yellow transparent gshock I didnt like the color before so I sold it but I miss that old yellow watch😊
I love my horological onion plus I got myself the yello or green one (depending on your eyes) sort of wish I'd got the black one though as a refuse collector the bright coloured case/strap has already become discoloured! Wish they'd bring out a simpler tough solar version and that would be my perfect watch! Do miss that countdown timer though but as a binman do love the step counter!
Well I didn't see this coming 😁 I bought one a couple of months ago. I opted for the clear purple. Apparently the two clear models are limited runs. I love this watch. I had a G Shock Rangeman with the MIP display but it was a bit bulky for my liking. I sold it on and had always hoped they would start using that display on some smaller models. The GBX-100 was my first choice but the color I wanted wasn't available so I settled on this one.
I've got the all red version of this one and totally love it. Best looking negative display I've seen by a mile and I really like the look of the default time screen. It's become my sleeping watch with those large numerals and backlight.
I’m loving these larger displays and features but wish they would cool it on the color ways and negative displays. But overall excellent review and watch with a lot of useful features in an affordable package. Great stuff Jody!
To me it's weird that Casio makes a fantastic display, customizable in every way...but leaves out one tiny feature of switching between MM/DD and DD/MM.
Love this new display! I sprung for the GBD-100 a while back. If this were solar I'd probably spec one in a different scheme. Like the shirt!😉 Haleiwa is one of my favorite places. I lived there years ago and still go back to visit... Cheers mate!
That negative LCD is stunning for a Casio! Everything else (looks wise) not so much 😆 great functionality for a G-Shock too. But I use an Apple Watch for such things, which makes this seem archaic by comparison. I do wear my favorite watches on the other wrist though. If not all at once of course 😏
I bought the black one too. Always wanted a negative display square G Shock but my eyesight didn't agree with 5600 series. Foget about the level 2 and 3 functions, this is so good at just being a great digital watch, it may even replace my SGW-100 as my go to reliable bulletproof digital holiday watch
Casio nails it again 👏 I’ve been loving my GBX-100 for over a year now. Great compromise between full smart watch and tough beater (and this one is even cheaper 👍🏴😁). Paired to a phone which is paired to AirPods, I can screen calls without taking said phone out, thus saving it many a fall from up a ladder. Love the dual time functionality too. Improvements would be ability to increase font size for notifications 👴 and surely tf Casio could allow us to choose the date format given the whole thing is programmable via and app 🤷
These square gshocks are the watch equivalent of crocs. You definitely have nicer shoes on your shoe rack. But you don’t necessarily feel like wearing them when you just want to go for a quick walk on the beach or getting some fresh veggies from a shop next door.
I got the black and purple one of these. I almost got this one. Either one is great as my wear it in the sun/mud. Disconnected it completely from my phone because the notifications drove me nuts. Just basically use it as a watch though, doesn't do me much good as a workout watch w/o the heart rate monitor. Wish they would have included that and then made it solar, course then I wouldn't have been able to find it at that price. Super comfortable, and I still like the looks. Have a great one, and keep on the nappy times!
Thank you so much, Jody! I've been pretty intrigued about this one for a while. By the way, you may want to check out Withings hybrid watches. They look just like regular analog watches, with the new ScanWatch Horizon even having a pretty neat diver aesthetic. The point is that they include a complication that kinda looks like a small seconds but is actually a small circular display. It shows information such as notifications, steps, burnt calories, heart rate...and allows you to set up alarms, countdowns and chronometers. I grabbed one of the older models and it is just not my cup of tea, but I think it is a pretty interesting concept that more people should know about 😄 * *not sponsored, I swear
I've got the blue one. Pros - lightweight, very legible, vibration alarm, and the app is the way to go to set it up - very easy to use. Cons - I'm not sure the step counter is accurate. I also do not use the phone notifications. If I did want to use those features, they appear very clunky. Finally, not having 10ths or 100ths on the stopwatch bothers me. I guess that's a disadvantage of the MIP display. I wear this watch a lot and its a perfect watch to travel with (easy time changes with the app and vibration alarm). Even with its shortcomings, it's my favorite G-shock.
Awesome review Jody! I’ve really wanted one of these since they were first released! I don’t need any of the semi smart watch functions but the Bluetooth connectivity is great for setting the watch and it’s functions and that display looks absolutely incredible! This watch feels like a modern version of the classic and iconic G Shock Square. The only thing that gives me pause is the lack of solar. If this had solar I’d be camping outside my local G Shock boutique or selling my organs to get one on eBay like the MoonSwatchers were a couple of months ago 😂 Looking forward to hear how you get on with it long term and good luck training for your marathon 🏃♂️
I've been wearing a GBD-100 since I got it a bit over a month ago. It's great, the smart features work well for me and it is incredibly useful. The alarms are my primary reminders and way of waking up on time. I changed the workout names to TIMER (all the same, the indicator on top tells which is active) to make it more generic, as that is how I use it. My phone was already set to only give the notifications I want, did not have to tweak it much to make it manageable. The notification marker disappears from the watch when you read it on there or remove it from the phone view. Full-screen notifications are incomplete, to read a bit of the message you have to navigate to them. I use the running function while taking walks and the monthly goal to encourage me to walk enough but I don't really train with it. The activity tracking does not get much use as I use the daily log of the app instead. My main complaints are that everything updates once every half a second, including keypresses. This makes it a bit slow and clunky to use, though it is very manageable. The app also only registers achievements when opened and the calorie one is mildly bugged (not the constant increase, that is intended, the way it updates this at midnight). But to give it credit, the connection is solid and the battery life is very impressive for what it does.
According to the manual an indicator shows up on screen when it's running low. Under temporarily low battery voltage this can start flashing and lock out all watch features besides time until the battery recovers. Have not seen either yet.
@@WyvernDotRed does it let you reply to texts or emails from the watch or just read them? I just ordered the red one today from Zappos they had a sale for $97.99! I just got the GWM5610 and I like it but I think I’ll like this better.
@@strikenryken You can only read them, you can not interact with the notification in any way but clearing the unread marker watch-side. It's also a bit inconsistent and even buggy depending on the app, Telegram likes to create duplicate notifications that stay unread when you clear them from the system.
Far too busy for me personally, I'm still amazed by how much they can pack into smart watches....I struggle to use my phone properly as it is....🏴🤣🏴🤣
That screen is amazing! You should check out one of the baby G shock watches for us smaller wristed people. Specifically the Casio BGD-560-1CR. It’s a smaller version of the 5600 basically.
I love the MIP display on these watches. I hope one day Casio makes MIP displays standard across all of their digital models. Admittedly, I prefer the Casio GBX100 over the GBD200. Same MIP display, step/activity counter, moon and tide graph, but the aesthetics of the GBX100 are much nicer.
I didn't mind this colourway honestly but I went for the purple and black one as that matches the colours I wear more than this one. I've had to import it from aus to the UK it was about 260 digerydoos so a little higher than the standard colourways you can get in the UK but it was worth it imo love this thing.
It's an odd choice of colours for sure. I think a strap change could really take it to the next level. The functionality is brilliant, I'm definitely considering one for my collection
Yep. The dark green is the yellow on this one. (ps I have an Exciton II if you want to review it……but maybe not as it was a limited run of 200. It is nice though)
Thanks JOMW. Perfect timing. My wife is going to buy me a new gshock for Father’s Day. I wasn’t sure which one to direct her towards…in all honesty I still don’t know. But now at least I know that I don’t know what I don’t know and know that there’s more to know. Thanks

The orange-onion actually glows underwater, i think it also contains phospors materials especially the translucent yellow hinge between the bezel and strap.
I like the color, orange/gray is one of my favorite color combinations. There are several sports teams with this color way and they all look great. Take a peek at the Houston Astro’s uniform with orange jersey and grey pants, very stylish. However, I do think Casio could have implemented the color combo a bit better.
I've got my eye on this but I'm hoping for a module update - like the Casioaks just received - to add Solar and let me flip the DATE/DAY display to DAY/DATE.
This is another example of a Casio that you may fall in love with at first sight but when you start using it it turns out that Casio still has no idea of what a _good_ smartwatch or sports watch should be like. This is a one-layer onion, keep it for telling the time on that gorgeous display and never bother with the other features. I mean, a 1s resolution stopwatch? Come on. And it is sloooowww, jut press the Run button accidentally and try to return to the normal screen in a snap -- good luck! Ok, the BT time synchronisation is a bonus for you Antipodes because of the lack of MultiBand :) I still loved your review of it, Jodi -- you talked so enthusiastically that I was even considering getting one. But then my common sense kicked in, lol. Thanks again! Zs
I just use this watch as a regular g shock. I never even installed the app when i bought this. This watch is good to go right out of the box. I don't want to receive notifications and app based data on this watch. For that purpose i have a smart watch. By the way every possible settings can be done through watch, you don't need the app for that. Just use this watch as a regular g shock with some extra fitness functions like steps, distance, calories and workout time( don't need app for that) that i like and believe me battery will last for more then 2 years maybe 3 or even 4. Cr 2032 is a big and powerful battery. So people who are worried about it's battery life and asking for solar version, you don't need solar in this watch just don't connect it with the app don't even install the app for this. If you want notifications and some health tracking, go buy a smart watch as a spare and enjoy this beauty just like a regular casio. Believe me the battery will last a long time.
You're right, i am doing exact the same as you, i have a Galaxy Watch 44mm for smart...and i use this only as regular watch just because i love this watch and i have the green one, wich gets out in front of the crowd. I installed the app but just to sync the watch and check the version updates only.
I was thinking to fire some objections seen the title, but you calmed me down right after start of the video. I am into GBX-100, btw, but they share the same display, which is really fantastic! I really hope CASIO will improve these models, as they seems really strong alternative to other smartwatches.
TicTacArea is great for Casio's. I've gotten two G-Shocks from them. A couple of bucks saved worth a few extra days of shipping. I got a grey one of these GBD-200. Very nice grab and go watch.
Jodie, what are you going on about???! This watch is an absolute STUNNER. That semi-translucent orange mixed in with semi-translucent yellow, and topped off with the grey strap - definitely gives me some late 1980s/early 1990s Robocop/Total Recall vibes... Super attractive to me.
Thanks for the video. I didn't know that the stopwatch only works in seconds. So it's out of the question for me, because I need it for work at least 1/10s. Even my Casio 95QS-36 from 1979 has a 1/100 second stopwatch...
Best review from the absolute best reviewer, he knows his onions! I’ve just bought this in black, wish the review wasn’t in this awful colour, I was sick in my mouth a few times, what a brilliant watch though, can’t wait to get it, picked it up for £100, should be about £300 I reckon.
Love all the functionality heaped into this phone and I don't have to charge it everyday! Casio drops limited edition color ways on the regular if you want something unique and not ugly.
Another plug for the GBX-100, which has a very similar (if not the same) module, looks great, and I can confirm is compatible with strap adapters, so you can use 22mm straps on it.
The Star Wars universe! I don't know Jody, have you noted the colors of Luke Skywalker's flight suit and helmet? ;-) Some Citizen Star Wars commemorative watches feature a similar color scheme. Yellow, Grey, Orange and maybe Red thrown in there too. I think I will call it the "Luke G-Force" :) Incidently, this watch has a mate in Black with purple accent. I am calling that one the "Palpatine G-Shock!" (ala Force Lightning) ;-) Obviously, these two are under the radar Casio G-Shock "Return of the Jedi" commemorative watches!

It shows information such as notifications, steps, burnt calories, heart rate...and allows you to set up alarms, countdowns and chronometers. I grabbed one of the older models and it is just not my cup of tea, but I think it is a pretty interesting concept that more people should know about 😄 *
*not sponsored, I swear
Orange and yellow actually pair very well, it’s the gray that does work here. Orange, yellow and BLACK would have been literal fire 🔥
Whatever color you choose, you just cannot beat this MIP display for a digital watch!👍
It's really accurate if you calibrate it
@@naksan656 I love running on treadmill, is it good to have this watch to track my distance and pace?
Awesome review Jody! I’ve really wanted one of these since they were first released!
I don’t need any of the semi smart watch functions but the Bluetooth connectivity is great for setting the watch and it’s functions and that display looks absolutely incredible!
This watch feels like a modern version of the classic and iconic G Shock Square. The only thing that gives me pause is the lack of solar. If this had solar I’d be camping outside my local G Shock boutique or selling my organs to get one on eBay like the MoonSwatchers were a couple of months ago 😂
Looking forward to hear how you get on with it long term and good luck training for your marathon 🏃♂️
Thanks Gareth! I think maybe solar would stretch the battery capacity too far. Maybe in the future?
Interesting, but I’ll stick with my 5610 that I’ve modified with titanium case and bracelet.
Whaaaat. What prompted me to get this watch was its colorway! I said to myself: oooh what a pretty Gshock; i should get!
Casio, my favorite band since i was 10 years old, now iam 40 and still wear it.
Ha! Snap!
The more I look at the dial the more I like it! Its weird, and different....and I love it!
Does it have a battery power indicator?
Far too busy for me personally, I'm still amazed by how much they can pack into smart watches....I struggle to use my phone properly as it is....🏴🤣🏴🤣
I don’t see a part two on this guy
I just got this color i dont know i just love it GOD TIER
That screen is amazing! You should check out one of the baby G shock watches for us smaller wristed people. Specifically the Casio BGD-560-1CR. It’s a smaller version of the 5600 basically.
Yes. I love my BGD-560!
The functionality is brilliant, I'm definitely considering one for my collection
what color should i change ?
@@duong2568 I think orange would work great
One of many watches you ‘forced’ me to buy was a G-Shock DW5600BB. Stealth watch, I love it.
Ha! Sorry for using force on you mate. As a Star Wars fan, perhaps it was 'the force'??!!
Yep. The dark green is the yellow on this one. (ps I have an Exciton II if you want to review it……but maybe not as it was a limited run of 200. It is nice though)
Arrived yesterday from tictacarea, around $135 USD. Bargain! Cheers Jody Of Many Watches
Honestly love the look. Inspired colour combination.
I have this model and it’s my work watch. I love it, and I do not think it’s ugly 😀
He says a lot of watches that are beautiful or ugly I think it's just clickbait cuz this watch is very unique
Call me crazy Jody…I don’t mind this goofy color!
Thanks JOMW. Perfect timing. My wife is going to buy me a new gshock for Father’s Day. I wasn’t sure which one to direct her towards…in all honesty I still don’t know. But now at least I know that I don’t know what I don’t know and know that there’s more to know. Thanks
Ahahha! No problem Luke. I think.
Casio is a really fantastic Brand. I have just received a New ga b2100 yellow toughsolar bluetooth. I moded it with stainless casioak and it is fantastic. Sun burst effect on thé face. I love it and i Wear it as a daily. Thanks for your videos. I Never miss one!!!
Mind reader! Just in time for my holiday to Greece and looking a G.
Not sure if this one will make the Cut but you’ve given me ideas!!
I haven't properly explored it yet mate, but I am looking forward to. Can't go wrong with a G! Enjoy your holiday when it comes.
The orange-onion actually glows underwater, i think it also contains phospors materials especially the translucent yellow hinge between the bezel and strap.
The color scheme is the main reason I want this watch.
TO me it is the most beautiful Casio watch ever ! Great color scheme
Add Solar or Rechargeable Battery Add-on Option and it's just perfection.
Great video. Agree with very odd colour scheme. It's like they've tried to create an Ironman inspired watch and failed miserably 😂
Ok, the BT time synchronisation is a bonus for you Antipodes because of the lack of MultiBand :)
I still loved your review of it, Jodi -- you talked so enthusiastically that I was even considering getting one. But then my common sense kicked in, lol.
Thanks again!
Zs
Orange-yellow-gray - classic rescue worker color scheme! They need G-shocks too, like the rest of us, yo 😄!
I love the color combo personally
That colour way is just right up my alley!!! Love it!
Excellent video!!! I *love* the look of this watch - so thanks - another watch purchased - and another excuse: "Jody made me do it"!!!!
Nice pick up. And you are welcome Scott!
@@JustOneMoreWatch anticipating the promised second half of the onion!!
I mean, I get the yellow/grey 80s thing, but it doesn't pull it off for me mate!
@@JustOneMoreWatch, as always, different strokes for different folks... For me, it falls straight into that category of "so ugly it's beautiful" LOL.
Ha ha I actually love the look of this one - but indeed I also like the Timex Pacman that you were so fond of ;)
Another hidden gem is the GD 350 Casio G shock check that one out .. all the best mate
I LOVE the way this color way looks! 😍🤣
Got the black one for work. Unbreakable. Love it.
Love all the functionality heaped into this phone and I don't have to charge it everyday! Casio drops limited edition color ways on the regular if you want something unique and not ugly.
Just a matter of opinion this is a particular color scheme that I bought because I thought it was the coolest just a matter of opinion. Boils down to
Another plug for the GBX-100, which has a very similar (if not the same) module, looks great, and I can confirm is compatible with strap adapters, so you can use 22mm straps on it.
I chose this color-way on purpose. Love it!
Where you bought yours from works for me a treat. I’m in Spain so no charges!
Gracias
I think the colourway looks good. Good balance of color, and sporty vibe.
Where did part 2 go? Was looking forward to that....
