I started out just flying around his property, but became intrigued about how they were recycling something that would otherwise end up in the landfill. I got permission to fly while they were operating and started asking questions. This video was the result.

Awesome footage. Am very interested in trying to do something similar. Just curious where and how do you find a place for the finished product. Is there any demand for it?

This company has been in business for more years than I know. They sell a lot of it back to the county for road repairs. They sell a lot to farmers and ranchers for dust control on their dirt roads. He meets the standards at Texas Department of transportation sets for the material and it's a substitute for using oil and other materials. It makes it more environmentally friendly. Atascosarecycling.com is their website.

The problem with getting roofers to do it is massachusetts you have to have clean shingles no trash. So now they need 2 dumpster or t trips with a dump trailer. Driving up the cost. So the cost savings is gone instantly. Most just dump in new hampshire in my area

That's been a problem down here in Texas also, from what I heard from the owner of the company. His customers tend to "keep it clean" and still save enough $ on landfill costs to make it worthwhile.

Excellent production! Informative both in explanation and footage presentation. How do the white suits protect from noise?

They had ear protectors on under the hoods. I met one of the crew, a guy named Carlos, and he explained why they wore the protective gear, as compared with the guy in the orange shirt who only wore ear protectors when working on the actual grinder. He showed me the particles that were stuck all over the sleeves of his outfit, saying you don't see a lot of dust but there is a reason they only do this procedure when the weather conditions are just right.

The actual truth is that asphalt shingles are often a poor choice of roofing material, which is why shingles end up in the waste stream after a decade or 2 of use.

Pretty sure most roofers still take their shingles to the landfill. They probably have no idea this place exists….

You are correct. That's one of the reasons I made this video... Thanks for watching.

It has to be clean so that's 2 separate trips or 2 dumpster. 0 cost savings
