Compose a 13 minute masterpiece for orchestra and rhytm section.
Perform it with three instruments.
You will find a C64 under your seat.
Dane: ok. this do?
I found demos like this quite impressive when I saw them on Amigas and Intel 386 and 486 machines back in the 1990s. Now this one on a bloody Commodore 64, oh my! Fucking magic!
And people complain that they can't do anything with only 4 gigs of ram....
Does make you wonder what we really could do with 4 gigs of ram (or 8 or 16 as this reply is 4 years later in 2021)
Breathtaking. Literally cannot imagine how that was done in 170 K. I noticed at least three fonts and four bitmapped portraits alone
two sides actually
I own Commodore 64's and I can't even believe what these guys can coax out of 30+ year old 8-bit hardware designs.... It's stunning. The C-64 is the best 8-bit computer ever built. Ever. They stopped selling them in 1991. So, yeah......
This is stunning.
They discontinued them in 1994 actually.
Here we go again soon. X'2016 is just a couple of days from today. I so wish I could be there live. Maybe in a couple of years...
The part around 5:10 sounds like Giorgio by Moroder by Daft Punk.
+Ultracity6060 exactly my thought when i heard it. its an awesome remake :)
Ha, I knew I knew that melody, but couldn't put my finger on it.
3:12 fantastic sound track.
The inside-a-cube-effect 8:18 - 8:55 effect is one of the absolutely sickest stuff I've seen on a C64. How is that even electrically possible?
Magic!
Some VERY thorough understanding of 6502 assembly (and some toolchains). This is one of the effects that mesmerized me when I saw it for the first time, along with the rotating rasters one. To be honest, this demo (or Wonderland XII, not sure) got me intrigued about the C64 scene (a 'fanboy' kinda way) as if like saying "what will come out next from the sceners?". Also, the fact that the X demoparty series is bi-annual got me a little furious, though. Why not make it a yearly party? Because it is very special? I think I just answered my own question there.
Very simple. Prerendered charset animation and color cycling. Like most of the effects in this demo. :)
nop... its imposible
Well, if it is all very simple, where is your demo?
Technically miles ahead of the competition. If there would be a pure tech competition for the C64 then no contest. Booze owns them all. Absolutely stunning, if magic exists on the C64 then HCL is holding the wand.
If you want more Booze then watch Edge of Disgrace and Andropolis. Top demos too.
you realise that these hipsters that made this demo wasnt even born when the poeple you claim they are miles ahead of where doing demos!
So you were cool before it was the cool thing to do? What a hipster thing to say.
+bent540 I made this comment like 2 years ago and didn't know some other groups' work so well yet. The landscape of the scene is constantly changing. Now I've seen plenty of demos which can hold their own. Booze, Censor, Oxyron, Hitmen, Crest, Fairlight, Arsenic, Samar, Arise, Genesis, Offence and lots more. They all have made some stunning stuff. And these 'hipsters' you speak of are often the SAME people who were already there from the late 80s.
@@bent540 Being one of the founders of Booze Design I can tell you that HCL has more or less been a member of the C64 scene since 1988, the same goes for most of the people involved in this demo. I can also inform you that no member in the group is a hipster unless we are talking beer-selection...
@@bent540 You don´t know what you are talking about. This is just random gibberish.
Yup, this is my favorite C64 demo. The effects, overall design with music, etc. It gave much inspiration to my recent demo. Thanks for that! Greetings from the C+4 scene.
Holy shit zero borders O_o What sorcery is this!? Amazing!
The Cencor Design one is great for just all out impressiveness, but yet the music and visuals in this one keep me coming back and watching again. The songs great in this one and overall I prefer it.
*censored
One of the best demos ever on the C64, fantastic visuals, great fitting music and very good flow. And a great theme, thematic demos are the best.
didn't win the compo, but it won my heart!
Guys... its very nice to see your demonstration of math. Its so beautiful to see the passions. I like demos with a storytelling behind... that wallbreaking is pure joy.
Hope some young people are beeing interested of the code behind.
I love the music in this - looping all day long.
Can someone make a t-shirt from this? I would wear it at work.
Art is resistance!
Dane has the right to call himself a Composer!
These guys should make a brand new game for the c64 using all these effects....or maybe all the demo guys should make a fantastic game for the next demo competition ...the best game wins....or maybe an alternate os for the c64.....hmmmmm(i wish)
If I had seen this demo on a C-64 when I was a kid when I first got one, I think I would have probably geeked out so hard I exploded. It's probably just as well I didn't. Messy business, explosions. So, all I will say is, this is awesome.
U guys r bloody Incredible!
I always wonder, how is it possible to come out with another Scroller ...
But apparently there are no borders ...
✋😎 Top notch!
Rockz' da House.
Someone needs to make a cover of this song.
Incredible work for the Commodore 64. Top notch.
is it me or does the melody kinda sound like riffs and phrases from Giorgio by Moroder? Great demo, love the art, cheers.
jesus christ rotating rasters? Simply amazing
These guys need to make games!
My all time favorite C64 demo.
I guess 8 bit hardware are enough after all :) Astonishing!
And 64 bit isn't 8 times better. Not even at four thousand times the speed.
Some amazing effects. Emulating the interference circles, wow. It was dead easy on Amiga, but on a C64, just wow... The rest is amazing too!
Imagine what could do C64 with the 121 color palette of C16/Plus4!
Fantastico!
It should be number one on X this year.
Brilliant!
Stunning! :)
Respect.
Great demo guys keep up the good work.
Fascinating!
Wow, that music!!! (check it out on the real thing or at least some emulator) And besides that technically very impressive. Amazing.
Excellent work!
this is 8bit porno! amazing
Bloody hell. That's so inspiring.
triad
fairlight
you're the only name i laud i never heard about back then bro
This is the Debris of C64. The one.
Insane
The updated full frame capture in the description is even more insane :)
C64ってメガデモでもゲームでもよく綺麗な一枚絵映すとき多いけれどなんでやろ?
GREAT!!!
well i was eigtht years old i might have missed it
Interesting is it only me or do I hear some Daft Punk music in there at 5:16 sounds exactly like the music from Daft Punk - Giorgio by Moroder at 6.28 th-cam.com/video/zhl-Cs1-sG4/w-d-xo.html
here is the right link to the official daft punk video th-cam.com/video/zhl-Cs1-sG4/w-d-xo.html
I LOVE C64 👍🥂🎩
Awesome fx, but this "something with freedom" theme fucks it up for me.
Nice statement
Awesome! :-)
I for one welcome our Commodore 64 overloads.
4:40
Very daft. Such punk. Wow.
You gotta be shittin me. What did you do to those colors. How dare you.
The music also had reference to Giorgio by Moroder:

damn...
10:55 -- Snowden got Russian citizenship last week in September of 2022
5:09 *HUGE RIP OFF* of daft punk's "Giorgio by Moroder" holy s### could you have at least tried to not make it so obvious??? song wasn't even a year old yet at the time this was being made to top it all off LOL
Is this on normal real c64 unmodified hardware ? Or was the mhz tuned or even emulated on higher clock speed ?
It's how it runs on on a real C64... but please see the updated link for full frame C64 madness on how it''s suppose to be via vanilla C64 (circa 1982) th-cam.com/video/oJK8mS5YF7I/w-d-xo.html
Bro, you rulez, real 8-bit shit
I think this version looks better than the "50 FPS".
Wait... the C64 can only do 160*200 pixels resolution @ 16 colors .... something is clearly off here! ;)
Well, you got the 16 colours part right anyway. 😁
MONITOR
?
Booze design always dustin off the banks
How much floopies this would take? :B
Just the 2
Before I asked that silly question I should have said how awesome the demo you guys made is. Also the fact it can be loaded on two flooppies is just unbelievable!
***** It fits on only one floppy, with the two sides occupied (170k each).
lolzvid Right, which is a whopping 340k. That's KILObytes folks.... not Gigabytes or even Megabytes. Your average MP3 file would be 10+ TIMES as large as this demo.
If you're not impressed, you should be.
+KrK007 I am very impressed
I can't believe that's done using a C64. I bet that's all CGI.
i think we should found a foundation defining code
no
YOU should
unfortunately
neither you or i have the means do we
where can i download this to load on my c64
csdb.dk/release/?id=133934
All those colors! Where do they come from? How! Amazing skills 👏👏👏
They come from Vic
my cat liked it
4:43 It is frustrating to see that people who are smart enough to write demos do not understand the concept of reflective bowl antennas. This thing in the middle is pointed into the bowl and the signals are reflected by that. It is not rocket science.
Please do the hardware justice! Get of the Macs! Basic 64k when 12 year old!
System READY to view JPG files. LOAD ...

😎 *Very Nice Demo..!* 💥💯👌✌👍
comaland won because it is far far superior to this basic demo. This pales in comparison!
In my opinion, Uncensored is better. Especially in the music department
canaconn23 TBH, both are very impressive and push the innovations. Both music wise are excellent too but I think where Comaland gets the edge is presentation and artwork. No doubt about it, that Oxyron/Censor did some stunning art.
