Ted Nugent - The Unthinkable Occurred!

  • What do you say when Ted Nugent wants to borrow your guitar? I'll tell ya! You let him know where and when and you brace yourself as you watch Ted & Shemane walk up to your front door!
In this video, Ted inflicts The ByrdmanSteve with some closeup guitar tips! Stranglehold and more are seen like never before from the lair of the Byrd's Nest. An arm-hair raising hour to say the least!
This was nearly a year ago in 2021 and believe it or not, as it turned out, Ted had the ChicomCooties during this visit as he announced days later. The man never delivers any less than 110% under any circumstance. Please watch at your own peril.
Thank you Ted & Shemane and of course my closest friends and family for one of the greatest hours on record!

I have been a fan of Ted since the early 70's and watching him crawl all over his amp stacks playing papa's will from the front row was always something special. The early Amboy Dukes were really great hard rock Pioneers. God I am so glad I came of age back in the late 60's early 70's it was the greatest bands playing the greatest rock music and there will never be another era like it and never will there be anybody like Ted Nugent.

Me too Man !! Saw the Amboy Dukes twice during the Survival of the Fittest tour in ‘71 and it was unforgettable. There is no way anybody could follow that band.

Stranglehold. I am amazed every time I hear that. It never gets old. I had so many of Ted Negents albums when I was in high school. I remember the song paralyzed. It is a short song but once he gets going if you listen he never stops jammin till the total last instant of the song even when he starts singing again. So many AWSOME songs I could go on about all of them. Anyway thanks for this video and thank you Ted Nugent you were and are the best rocker I know of. So many good memories looking at the album covers and listening to your music. To bad kids don’t get to do that now days. I feel like I got to know the bands So much better because of the album covers and the first thing I always did when I got a new album was listen to the whole album, follow along with the lyrics printed on the sleeve and all About the bands. I just don’t care about new music as much now. That’s probably why.

Lucky man, I was in a club in Houston where stevia ray vaughn was playing upstairs blowin the house down. I could hear him succinctly, I looked around and saw a bar piano empty. So I go to the piano I don’t know squat but I start jamming in c major (all the white keys) the piano max volume mixed perfectly with the upstairs volume. I played a few songs, really banging it out, turn around and look behind me there’s a hundred people standing behind me clapping and stuff, i said go ahead pointing to the piano. 20-30 -people got to jam with stevia, he never knew it, but it’s a memory we will never forget…it was awesome!

Man! How fortunate you all are. I spent my life in the Army then got injured. At 48, 13 years ago, I became stranded, stuck sitting in my living room chair 24/7 eating and sleeping right here in this effin chair. 61 years old but still with a 25 year old thoughts and desires but ended up selling everything I owned that used to bring me joy and happiness. My car, motorcycle, golf clubs, hunting, fishing and camping gear because I can't use them. Then I see y'all having so much fun and enjoyment and all I can do is cry desperate for some kind of relief. I'm living 300 miles from my hometown where all my friends live but can't do a darn thing about it because I live alone and have nobody in my life. Even my guitar is busted but can't muster up the will to get it fixed or just buy another one.
You guys look so happy. I really envy the bond you guys can share. When you guys all laughed at the end of that jam session it really hit me hard. I used to do the same thing back before being disabled.

Cool! I got to jam with Ted way back when I was 17 (I'm 65 now) at Anderson's Music store in Plymouth, Mi. around the time then he was transitioning from the Detroit area Amboy Dukes to break out nationally with Derek St. Holmes. He was doing a meet and greet and playing some guitar with the locals. I was one of the lucky ones who got to play with him. He asked what do you want to play, I said how about "Papa's Will", which was one of his songs with the Amboy Dukes that I had learned the solo note for note. I nailed the solo along with him, a little bit wobbly because I was nervous and excited. When we were done he said "the man knows his licks", and I was on cloud nine, lol! A few more guys got to jam and when it was over I talked to him for a few minutes, and he was very cool to talk to, high energy and intelligent but treated you like a brother. I walked out of there with an autographed photo that said, "To guitar Don, Ted Nugent"!

This is great, thank you for sharing.
Back in 1979 Ted was at Al Nali Music in Ann Arbor. I'd stopped in to pay on a lay-away and noticed the store was deserted, empty.
Everyone was outside watching Ted shoot his Bow into a bunch of guitar/amp shipping boxes. It was then the giant zebra stripped Bronco parked on the sidewalk all made sense, I was 17 years old at the time.
While looking around for someone to take my money I noticed a Twin Reverb with the tolex stripped off and a Gibson case on the floor with the letters "T N' stenciled on the side.
I opened the case and strummed an "E", "A" and "G" chord on his Byrdland. I was actually going to plug it into the Twin Reverb when I noticed numerous teeth mark impressions in the wood of the amplifier's enclosure. That is when I packed everything up and left it just as I'd found it.
I got out of there so quick that I didn't even pay on my lay-away!

Saw him about 10 times and he never disappoints, he attacks that Birdland from the second he comes out till the last song. The best Ted show I got to see was when he wormed up for Aerosmith and I believe it was the Permanent Vacation tour. Me and a buddy had seats in the 14th row at MSG and before Ted's first song we snuck down to first row dead center, we always got as close as we could for a show, long story longer we stayed there until about Aerosmith's 3rd song and some people came and we had to go back to our 14th row seats, but I did not care I got to see Ted's whole set front row dead center !

I saw him on the same tour in STL at the original Kiel Auditorium. See my above comment 👆👆 Aerosmith was cool too but we were there to see NUGENT!! And you were Front Row! Cool as hell!

I saw Nugent twice- once in the mid 80s opening for Aerosmith- it was like seeing 2 main bands- and I was “enjoying” Nugent so much, (drunk and stoned out of my mind) I don’t really even remember much of Aerosmith. My buddy told me the next day it was pretty cool. Saw Nugent again in the early 90s when he was with Damn Yankees. They were the middle band between Firehouse and Poison. I didn’t care one bit about those others- matter of fact, I didn’t care much about seeing Shaw, Blades, and Cartellone. I was there to see Nugent! I wish I was old enough to have seen Amboy Dukes. I was only about 3 or 4 at the time. A true Rock God and genuinely good person. One more thought….. anyone can pick up a guitar and learn it and play “notes” and “riffs.” There are a few who just have “the touch” and cannot be duplicated. Clapton, Trower, EVH, and of course Sweaty Teddy.

@@ByrdmanSteve My comment was no disrespect to you sir. You are certainly no slouch on the guitar- but I think you know what I mean…
There are just some who are true masters and no one can duplicate- even if it was on the exact same guitar and the exact same equipment.

@@dkwoodsy2082 No disrespect taken. I share your sentiments. I've loved a lot of other bands but none came even close to the Ted connection for me. I was trying to point out that rarely is Ted included in a list with the other greats but he should be! I'm known for saying it's like a finger print. It's simply not duplicable but we can have fun trying:)

When I saw Ted play back in 2006, I was astounded at how good he was. Ted IS NOT over-rated--he's that damn good. Although he doesn't seem to shred much in the neoclassical style, I don't think I've ever seen anyone shred hard rock blues licks better than him, and with total ownership, conviction, and feel.

First time I ever seen Ted play a bass! I saw his show in 2006 and he killed it. He shot a flaming arrow into a guitar that was airborne. It was a festival with Slaughter, Damn Yankees, then Ted's show, So cool
