Some hostels (especially ones with bars) will often let you use the facility even if you aren't a guest, so that's one way to meet people. Another would be instead of staying at a hostel all the time just pay for a room in the dorms for a few days to get to know people. For myself living in a hostel full time just doesn't really work for me with work but going for a few days or a couple times a month away from your airbnb won't cost you much and you will make friends.

I've been solo traveling for over 1 month now, been to Vietnam and now in South Korea. I'm enjoying myself but haven't made one single friend yet so I'm starting to get lonely tbh. I'm a total introvert that's in recovery so I can't go out drinking anymore (that's how I used to socialise). Also I haven't built up the courage to stay in a hostel yet, mainly because I struggle to fall asleep around strangers, also I haven't been able to find any private rooms. Not sure what to do. I plan on staying in a capsule hotel when I go to Tokyo soon, hopefully I can get into a conversation with someone there.

Fwiw I’ve never had a problem while staying in a hostel dorm. You should give it a try! Or talk to someone on your next tour.

Book your hostel through Hostelworld. They have an option where if you book through them you can chat with people that also booked through them during the same period and you can plan things together. Trust me, you're not the only solo traveler and you're not the only introvert. I went to Mexico and before I arrived I wrote in the chat if anyone wanted to meet up. 4 people replied and we were a group of 5 solo internationals that basically traveled the entire weekend together.
