If I am measuring wall to wall do I need to account for the unit it’s self? It measures from the front, so it wouldn’t include the device measurement correct?
Actually, it is your choice. On the bottom left the Unit button switches the selection shown on the LCD where you can see it shows a line that chooses to include or exclude the unit length so it can account for itself based on which you select.

Length (ft) x Width (ft) = Square Footage I wish I could explain if the tool can do it like the Bosch but I am not 100% sure but it's not too hard to write down 2 measurements and multiply to get the desired result. Sorry I cannot be of more help! I think my measurer is at the other place somewhere so I cannot even double-check the manual, maybe it has details on this specific function.
Not that I am aware of sadly, guess it doesn't like bright areas and surfaces. If it is outside there is not much that'll help. If it is in a really bright room curtains might help. If it is just caused by a shiny surface I'd try putting a piece of material or a non-gloss piece of paper (probably not white) opposite the laser and see if that helps. I'm not sure any of that is helpful but hopefully, you get it sorted and working.
this guy is a really cool dude as for myself being a tradesman I'm more interested in the how to use functions over the durability of the unit .
