My employers owned an older 4-level building in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia which was used as our HQ and has no elevators - and our management area is at the top floor, which meant a lot of exercise to get up there everyday, haha…
Too bad we have sold the building already (and moved to a 2-level shop-office) otherwise I would have proposed to my bosses to have such an elevator installed there!

Removing stairs from a old building? That is unpractical and very unsafe, as stairs are often part of the structure of the building.

It looks like stairs are included as part of the elevator structure, so they are replaced. Whether it's safe to remove them is a different story. It seems like a very difficult job for lift engineers alone though.
