There have been so many CGI heavy megaflops recently, you've got to question if films really are costing as much as is claimed or if it's more a case of studios/producers paying themselves huge salaries?
Even before Megalopolis, there is no wider gap between a director’s best work (The Godfather) and worst work. (Jack) 😂. I challenge anyone to find a gap that is wider 😅
The fact that they could not call this for the BS that it is just shows that awards and critical praise mean absolutely nothing. FFC being handled with kid gloves is a travesty. Especially with the Jeepers fiasco. A Neil Breen masterpiece.
I have a couple of ideas on how this movie could have been just slightly better story wise. 1) Show Adam Driver's character as a child, either in a flashback or as the opening scene. Maybe have him play with blocks or Legos or something, maybe drawing buildings. Have him walk down the city of New Rome and look up at awe at the skyscrapers in wonder. 2) Show him as a child or teenager first gaining recognition of his time-space talents. Maybe his mother explains to him that this is a special talent that is passed down through the family (when watching the movie I wasn't sure how these powers came about, whether it was from the megalon or magic or what). Then have him stop time and have him take a long walk through the city of New Rome. He can take a hard look at the city, including its poverty in the bad neighborhoods and other issues. I feel that two scenes like these would have added to his character and motivation more.
Well, congratulations Francis Ford Coppola for finally making the movie that you’ve been wanting to make for 40 years. Good for you. *applause* 👏👏👏 But is the movie good for the rest of us? What is going on with these legendary directors lately john woo Francis Ford coopla etc. The magic just left these guy's. Can't get that thrill of directing anymore. Watch your back Martin scorcese And tim Burton.
I think it's because they reach a point where they no longer care about the audience. They feel like they're established enough to create their vision without interference and no one will tell him no. Even Scorcese has become overindulgent. That's why all his movies recently are so drawn out
There is a difference. Him and George Lucas aren’t the aging filmmakers like Spielberg and Scorsese. It is okay. I love them all but it is way past Coppola’s prime time.
Regarding why Cesar doesn’t just stop time and make everything go his way, it’s most likely that he is trying to still play by some semblance of “the rules.” Coppola is really digging deep into a number of films from the cinemas that put concept and ideas over a general narrative. There may be a hint in Cesar’s talk of “we are in need of a great debate about the future.” The idea that a lot of people are talking, but most of humanity is focused on what they can grasp in the present, whereas opening up the mind to consider the future is not something many will do.
This movie feels like it was written by a pretentious 14 year old who took a writing class in high school. It's trying to be deep yet everything is extremely shallow and see through. The dialogue is trying to be grandiose and obscure but it just sounds like incoherent ramblings of someone who thinks they are smart. Terrible.

Even before Megalopolis, there is no wider gap between a director’s best work (The Godfather) and worst work. (Jack) 😂. I challenge anyone to find a gap that is wider 😅
Back in the day this guy was pumping
Out banger after banger now it's flop
After flop.
Time to go into retirement francis.
Same with john woo too.
This is the same guy who brought us
The godfather.
The friggin godfather!!!
What is going on?
*applause* 👏👏👏
But is the movie good for the rest of us? I have no idea. Still, I’m curious about it and I’d like to see it. But I think Korey and company hit the nail on the head when they said to wait for home video to watch Megalopolis. If the movie really is as crazy as everybody says, then I want the freedom to take breaks during the movie if I need them, and in the comfort of my own home. Can’t quite bring myself to watching it at the theater.
Hold on a minute, this isn’t Megalopolis at all…
This is just…
GRAND METROPOLIS!!!
One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. A total masterpiece.
This is why you have somebody else read your script and have the attitude of I'm cutting things out of my script
4:26 *The Sopranos* took years to get off the ground, but when it did… 👏🏾🍿🎬 *Megalopolis* was visually striking & thematically inconsistent; I couldn’t get into it!
30:18 - Martin…are you suggesting this film…INSISTS upon itself?
lol Seth MacFarlane is proud of you th-cam.com/video/0pnwE_Oy5WI/w-d-xo.html 😂😂
Francis Ford Coppola wanted some of that Tyler Perry attention, 😂😂😂
That $120 million dollars could have been given towards those that just lose everything from “Helene”.
Here in Western North Carolina it looks like atomc bombs went off had no power for a week but i am glad to be alive🙏
It feels like this should’ve been a mini series
Exactly.
What is going on with these legendary directors lately john woo
Francis Ford coopla etc.
The magic just left these guy's.
Can't get that thrill of directing anymore.
Watch your back Martin scorcese
And tim Burton.
I think it's because they reach a point where they no longer care about the audience. They feel like they're established enough to create their vision without interference and no one will tell him no. Even Scorcese has become overindulgent. That's why all his movies recently are so drawn out
@@fangal12 thanks.
@@fangal12the worst thing that can happen to a director is to allow themselves to be surrounded by “Yes Men.”
Add Ridley Scott. This is why Tarantino said he's going to hang it up before his skills deteriorate.
@@izzo2998 thanks.
There is a difference. Him and George Lucas aren’t the aging filmmakers like Spielberg and Scorsese. It is okay. I love them all but it is way past Coppola’s prime time.
Regarding why Cesar doesn’t just stop time and make everything go his way, it’s most likely that he is trying to still play by some semblance of “the rules.”
Coppola is really digging deep into a number of films from the cinemas that put concept and ideas over a general narrative. There may be a hint in Cesar’s talk of “we are in need of a great debate about the future.” The idea that a lot of people are talking, but most of humanity is focused on what they can grasp in the present, whereas opening up the mind to consider the future is not something many will do.
When I first heard of this, I thought it was a live action adaptation of the anime film Metropolis
This movie feels like it was written by a pretentious 14 year old who took a writing class in high school. It's trying to be deep yet everything is extremely shallow and see through. The dialogue is trying to be grandiose and obscure but it just sounds like incoherent ramblings of someone who thinks they are smart. Terrible.
Let's see what the 2nd of this movie Niggalopolis looks like
In writing there is a saying you have to kill your darlings , forty years there had to be lines pages that didn’t work but he loved and it wasn’t willing to chop it - if it’s dragging you down it’s got to go.
Taking so many years to create a film to come out in the wrong time. The movie came out during the time when people are cautious with money.
CLOUD ATLAS 2
So Adam Driver was playing the archetype that The Last Jedi tried to subvert?
