    Descending Madison in the dark followed by norovirus in the pouring rain…you’re tough as nails. Glad you recovered!

      🎯 Yeah, this turn of events was, without a doubt, the hardest part of the entire trail for me.

    Auggie! Man, you looked miserable. I’m glad you toughed your way through it and didn’t quit. I followed at least 30 hikers last year and at least a dozen of them have suffered from a kind of post hike melancholy as they went back to their old life. The misery will pass and the journey will continue. You’re a smart guy, so I know you’ll figure it out.

      It's all a part of the process 😵‍💫 This is the reality of thru hiking the Appalachian Trail. Unfortunately, sometimes you catch noro.
      And yes, adapting back to "normal" life has its challenges. It's relatively mundane and repetitive compared to being in a new place almost every day.
      Hope all is well with you, Tommy!

      @nymph40 "time is an illusion that helps things make sense, so we're always living in the present tense" 🎶 you quit your job and make time lol

    My man is back! Just got over the same thing two days ago. I can’t imagine being on the trail and that hits. Good to see you post a vlog. Looking forward to seeing the outcome, no pun intended. 🤟🏼

      It’s definitely a wild ride, especially when you’re in the middle of the woods in a thunderstorm lol

    Glad to see more videos. Was wondering what happened to you. You’re the first hiker I see post they stayed at white birches campground hostel. I live 15 mins north of Gorham.

      I have returned. White Birches is such a great place, they've been catering to hikers for years! Love those folks

    I had that virus once and didn't know what it was. I yacked 12 times overnight. That had to be rough out on trail after doing the Wildcats

      @Auggie_Hikes  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, it was a brutal night. The Wildcats were hard enough! But I got through it, as the world will soon see :) nice to see you here in the comments again! Hope all is well 🙏

    Oh, man. I know you eventually recovered. Is this the first time you've posted about this?

    • @Auggie_Hikes
      @Auggie_Hikes  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah I was only really sick the one night, but spent a few days in recovery allowing my appetite and energy to return.

    • @jeffstone28
      @jeffstone28 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @Auggie_Hikes Sounds like you did better than a lot of people who are sick for multiple days with noro. I guess the warnings are correct that it is very easy to contract from touching things that others have touched.

      @@Auggie_Hikes What are you doing these days? Got hiking plans for 2025?

    • @Auggie_Hikes
      @Auggie_Hikes  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yeah, I did recover really quick. It is definitely highly contagious, I got it from helping Neal. Getting him water, extracting from the trail and whatnot the day before. I did my best not to leave viral particles around by digging a hole and burying all my... Excrement. But there's only so much you can do when dwelling in public spaces.
      Anyways, nowadays I am simply treading water, making way too little money doing work I am not passionate about whatsoever.
      My ability to do any significant hiking in 2025 is a bit hampered by my financial situation, so I plan on just saving up and hopefully doing another thru hike of a different trail in 2026. But, we shall see!

      @@Auggie_Hikes You're in the same situation, I think, as a lot of thru-hikers. It'll work out, I'm sure, as you are an engaging guy with a nice personality and obvious tenaciousness to thru-hike the AT. I'm a 72-year-old section hiker at this point, so I guess it's easy for me to say but you'll do well, for sure.
