      I remember back when a Russian TH-camr was "teaching" his viewers Croatian and said that the kindest greeting is "jebem ti mater" or something similar, which translates more or less to "I fuck your mom". The funny thing is, in context it's actually something you do casually say to your friends. But out of context, to a stranger on the street? Get ready to be beat up XD

      I probably would have done that when I was younger, but by the time I was seriously learning languages I would never do that. I remember a Japanese guy who came to our university was making a girl say "Let's paizuri" and I interjected because I have the (unfortunate?) knowledge of what that word means. What a pervert... but I guess I know what a lot of words mean and I have myself and Kaichou to thank for that.... granted none of the words I've learned from watching Reddit Shitpost Review are anything I'd use on a daily basis in casual conversation.

    • @siukong
      @siukong 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@manusiabumi7673 2 ways it's different.
      1) A shirt you can always take off at the end of the day. So no matter how stupid/embarassing it may be at least the Engrish is not indelibly inked onto their bodies (and from what I've seen people in Asia don't ever really get tattoos like that with English words/phrases).
      2) I can't speak fully for them but I feel that most of the people wearing the Engrish shirts just do so because it "looks cool" to them. They may have chosen something stupid or crass because they don't know the translation but at least they're not mistaken that it's some profoundly deep message. Unlike most of the people who get the Chinese character tattoos, which seem to usually be done with the intent of having some inspirational word or phrase. The "looks cool" factor is certainly still present but there's an extra layer of foolishness in them getting a badly translated tattoo and thinking it's something highly meaningful and personal.

Anyway one guy asked for a pickup line to use on the Japanese women. I don't recall what he said, but the guy tried it out and the girl he was trying it out busted out laughing her ass off. Guy comes back red af and just sits down.
