Make sure your blade isn't too wide open. That could be the issue. Also take your time. Practice slowly until you get a good feel and handle on the puck. Then ramp up the speed.

Choose a curve/bend that youre comfortable with, and lastly, start with a flex that is roughly half your body weight. Go a little lighter than that if youre a newb, and not shooting hard. How do you k ow what stick is right for you?
When choosing a stick, hold the stick upright. If the top of the stick fits right under your chin, it should be the correct size.
