Looking at Google Maps shows there is a grocery store on Pelican Island. Being from out of the area and never having been to the area I'd not known Texas A&M University had a campus and housing on the island.

Looking some more at the map, I think the US Army Corps of Engineers Jadwin Building should be bulldozed to make room for a bridge from the mainland to island at other end of Pelican Island, there where 168 swing around ferry terminal, redundancy is good and wise, you know. And then the Corps could get in some good practice by building themselves a new building across the street in the Corps Woods Nature Sanctuary (and their new building there would include a Corps Woods Sanctuary infowelcome Center) while other Corps members engineer the drawbridge the ferries will need, it's a win-win for everyone!

The area not only accommodates students who pursue maritime studies ,it also houses one of the 6 merchant marine academies in the country.

@scottfw7169 for a non military academy, alumni who goes on to serve as military officers do enjoy the prestige that people who have gone in places like West Point or Annapolis experience.

Apparently the feds aren't passing enough regulations for ship captains at the local community campuses for certification. Maybe these captains should switch over to medical nursing since it's easier.
