Gulf waterway closed after barge slams into bridge | LiveNOW from FOX

  • A floating barge hit the Pelican Island Causeway Wednesday morning in Galveston County, Texas, damaging the bridge and closing the waterway to drivers. It also caused an oil spill according to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone on Pelican Island will have to use a boat to leave for the time being. The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway is closed down as officials respond to this incident, County Judge Mark Henry said, adding that the oil spill is why the U.S. Coast Guard decided to move forward with a closure.
The closure is a significant issue for maritime commercial traffic and civilian driving, as hundreds of people use the waterway along the Texas coast every day.

Train derailments and barge accidents happen all the time.
It's just the media decided to focus on them after the Baltimore bridge accident.
Just like they focused on train derailments last year after that crap in Ohio happened.
If they didn't focus on them, then you would go on none the wiser that they occurred.
No sabotage needed. Just the laws of probability.
When you have this many barges and bridges in the world, accidents are going to happen.
      No conspiracy needed.

@@stephanyhdz92 you need to catch up. The laws of probability says that accidents happen. There are hundreds of thousands of barges and bridges in this country and the world.
Some are going to have accidents. That's life.
Look at the statistics over the decades. There isn't an uptick in accidents this year. It's pretty steady like other years.
You're only more aware of the accidents since the Baltimore incident because the media realized that they can get more ad revenue from dum dum conspiracy theorists like yourself who drive traffic to their videos and, as such, even more money from those ads.
So, they report on every single one they can find to get your views and the ad money that comes with it. Because you just can't seem to comprehend that when you have more and more of a thing (cars, barges, guns) you're going to have the accidents that come with them. Law of probability.
You'd know these things if you bothered to stay in school and learn some critical thinking skills.
This is why us Libs laugh at you people. You make it so easy to make fun of you.

Know why they report on them more frequently now?
Because dum dums like yourself come here and type brain dead conspiracy nonsense and watch the ads and they get money.

My understanding from what the spokesman said was that they were pushing two of those barges both loaded and the coupling between the barges broke. What I don’t know i the barges were strung out or breasted up. Either way, you are looking at a displacement of approximately 11,000 tons! That’s heavier than most double stack trains! It’s a hell of a lot to stop with a 2000 hp boat. Normally, if all goes well there’s no problem. but part of the problem is retaining properly trained crews. So if you have a Nimrod on your crew they can ruin your life. As the vessel master you’re busy running the boat, and you can’t follow junior around on the barge and make sure he does his job or is properly trained. But ultimately, you are responsible. That’s the downside of being the Captain. But we all know that going in.

The majority of commercial traffic in that vicinity is going east west on the intercoastal waterway. So the intercoastal waterway passes to the north and on the north side of the of the island through what’s called Pelican Cut.

Real geniuses, just wanting to show how incompetent they are or collect a white envelope for a job well done by throwing a monkey wrench into what was working. Evergreen, Dali and now a barge. How about requiring every motorized, wind driven or towed water vessel over 5 tons to be escorted and towed by appropriate number of tugs near or passing under any bridge in any US waterway? Failure to comply will be issued $500K fine.

Someone wouldnt attack such an insignificant bridge just because. Nobody was hurt and its a super small spill in the spec of things.

It's not a conspiracy, or terrorist attack. That makes no sense. Nothing substantial was gained from it.
It's being caused by too much reliance on technology, computers etc to do the thinking and work on machinery, equipment, transportation. It's causing Humans to get lazier and dumber everyday. This stuff didn't happen as much when an actual person was doing the driving.or work . Just wait till the majority of cars are all driving themselves.
It all started back with the idiot light on the car's fuel gauge to let you know you were almost out of gas. That was what the damn gauge was for. When the gauge needle got near the big E that stood for empty, it meant you were almost out of fuel. If a person is so stupid they need to be warned about that, they shouldn't be allowed to drive a car.
