    "Jesus said, 'the truth will set you free.' But I'm going to tell you also, that only the truth will keep you free."
    Wow. Those are some great words, Andrew. Keep up the good work.

    I just can't get enough of Andrew Klavan. He's funny, witty, and genuinely insightful in ton of ways. And since I'm from Florida he's redeeming the name "Andrew" for me right now. Lol

      This was so deep I had to pause it halfway thru to think 😂😂. A speech like this should bring on an intense self-evaluation of our moral standards.

  • @diane5299
    @diane5299 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Andrew believes God is truth. One of the major points of his talk was living the truth you believe even though you are going to take some hits. I believe his thoughts and words are sincere, not rhetorical. The basis for some of his conservative thought come from a Biblical world view and are therefore hard to separate in his mind (guessing here obviously as I don't actually know him, but know people like him)
    Comments like "get off your stupid high-horse of religion" don't seem to make the space for discussion super approachable in my view.
    We agree conservative space can be open to both religious and non religious people. Not all conservatives agree on every issue. Maybe you could just try to see God as a conservative thought to disagree on, and not something that closes doors or "drives a wedge"

    Huge takeaways: Ideas and actions are not a race; debating whether ideas, actions, and culture are right or wrong is not racism; to tell the truth you must pay the price (we owe it to our children); only the truth will keep you free. BUT HUGE FALLACY: It's not father NOT marrying the mother of his children, but rather the fact that it's infinitely more lucrative to NOT have the father in the home, that is provable. A woman with a child and no father in the home receives around $75,000 worth of govt benefits, and if you add in the debt-slavery of "mom support" in he guaranteed transfer of 50% of that mans income after taxes without the fear he may lose his job bc the courts guarantee that pension. It's insane to think fathers just immediately quit doing what's instinctual (if fathers left their families we wouldn't exist), so THAT is a perfect example of the power of "narrative." That argument that men just knock up women and would rather be debt slaves with no contact with their offspring, fearing he'll lose his job and go to prison (yes, it's the leading cause of imprisonment in South Carolina jails) is all insane?! Ooor does the mother defame that man to justify her need for section 8, food stamps, utilities, welfare, cell phone now, "support/alimony" or slavery, and more? The latter is set in human nature and reality. We need to fight that narrative, bc women will always error on the side of safety and that's the govt.

    The science about abortion is already irrefutable. Why other than financial gain is this Barbary still happening?

  • @wayneyadams
    @wayneyadams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    49:00 One of the most fallacious statements I here atheists make is, "I don't need God, I live a moral life without him." Really? And, where do they think those morals originated? Why is it moral to do A, but not moral to do B? Who said so? When a male lion ousts the leader of a pack he systematically kills all the cubs, so the females will become fertile and he can impregnate them. Why do we consider that immoral in our society? When a woman divorces and remarries, the stepfather does not systematically kill all the children from her previous marriage. There had to be some higher authority, God, who told us that murder is a sin.
    You cannot divorce morality from God.

    Every now and then I find myself surprised by just how much conservatives worry about abortion.

    • @JoeSmith-fw8ix
      @JoeSmith-fw8ix 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Collier I basically agree with Klavan that we don't really feel the force of it because of the narrative that's been spun around abortion. I'm not saying I don't think unencumbered abortion is a terrible thing, I'm just occasionally surprised that abortion seems to be ~40% of what conservatives think about politically.

    Poor Andrew, he does not understand that Christian narrative is not "the truth" it is just another belief.

  • @BabbaYagga
    @BabbaYagga 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Klavan does not understand the first thing of spirituality.
    He thinks that BELIEVING in God is the same as knowing your creator.
    The Andrew does not know the difference between believing and knowing.
