This was so helpful. I was struggling finding a way to remove the cap and then the next piece to access the bolt. Thank you!

    Great video
Clear, direct and informational. So many repair videos are ego driven. I'm glad to say that I did not detect that here.
    Thank you

Our washer's agitator bolt came loose. All I needed to know was how to remove the plastic cap to permit access to the bolt. Whirlpool customer support / tech support said I needed to have a technician visit ($89 just to show up at my door!). Not happening...just to re-install a bolt??? Called a local appliance repair shop to ask for help and they acted like I'd asked them to for the keys to the palace treasure vault.
Found this video. Oh! You just pull it out? Mine was a little stuck, but the engineers at Whirlpool supplied me with three little "windows" in the side of the agitator where an appropriate sized screw driver leveraged the cap out sufficiently to remove it with my hand. Tightened down the bolt. Re-installed the cap. Life is good. Took my wife out to a nice lunch and still had $50 left over if I'd have called a technician. Thank you, AppliancePartsPros!

Thank you thank you. My problem was scuzzy dirt collecting under the agitator that was getting on bedsheets. Parts of the sheets were getting drawn under the agitator and if I didn't catch it on the way to the dryer, the brown dirt was set in and it looked like s**t. Literally. Upon removing the agitator I expected a tub full of low tide in the salt marsh type of scenery, but was surprised by a nice clean white tub. The only dirty spot was a ring of slimy scuzzy crud about 6 inches up inside the agitator. Some spray cleaner and paper towels, all done. Thanks again. BTW, a small battery driven impact hammer works wonders getting the bolt loose. Start tightening the bolt with the ratchet then finish the job with the impact wrench. Easy peasy.

Thank You sooo much, for wanting to Help out others sometimes. 🙏🙂
My top part broke. Is an old Kenmore with only a flat cover on top. I called Sears ~ terrible experience !!!!!!!
They 1st sent me the Top ONLY, without any parts !!!
    $99 !!!
I called back and told them, she said (these were All foreign people) oh don't worry I Know what you need, tells me $106 !!!!!! I said for just little parts ?!?! Yes Ma'am,they are always so polite, bc half the time they don't know what you're talking about. Wow !!! No available parts places nearby anymore.
Sooo, though I really didn't think that was Right, desperate, I paid. About a week later, big box, and very Small box came. She didn't just charge me, send Lil parts, she sent the bottom half of the agitator !!!!!!! Boy. Who knows what to do anymore. So cost me $200. Daughter said she probably could've found other washer on Marketplace.
Anyway, I'm 70, had no idea what to do with this all.
Told her that on phone she said no worries will send a how to video. Of course, she didn't.
I decided to just keep it all and Hope something else doesn't break down in my Old washer, that's a lot of money for me on my own.
Do you think it makes sense to keep that all, when all I really needed was the little parts ??? Sure would've been a whole lot cheaper !!!!!!!
Anyway, in checking online for a how to, yours came up, and now I think I can do it🙂👍...Thank You much.

It is easy. Just paid attention as to how the three plastic parts came out. Realized that this video was EXACTLY what I had in my machine. The only parts needed to get the upper agitator to agitate with the lower was the 4 agitator dogs. Bought them from Maytag for $6 plus $5 shipping which took 3 days. Should have bought them from Amazon for $3.20 and free shipping over night.
Took the upper agitator off and removed the parts. . .two, actually three pieces of plastic. one of them held the old broken dog parts. Worried two parts apart and cleaned out the broken dogs. . .then decided to wash the inside of the upper agitator to get all the gummy semi-dried fabric softener (Poor way to distribute the fabric softener) in the kitchen dishwasher. Came out looking nearly new. Watched the video again and took actually less than ten minutes to reassemble the parts and bolt it in. Then washed a load of clothes for the first time in a week. (I had taken it apart last week to make sure I could identify the parts, which I ended up not needing to buy. Only problem was the worn out dogs.

@@brucefrank6119 I'm responding to you Bruce because your comment is only 2 months old. Did you have any problems getting the top cylinder to "snap" together with the bottom part? Those two little clips in my base look fragile and I don't want to push too hard on the agitator dog assembly to break them. I tried and one of the clips bent, but the plastic seems flexible and I bent it back into place.. Thanks for any input.

I took entire agitator out to replace dogs. Then when I put agitator back it stops while about 1" from bottom of tub. When I screw in bolt it stops at one point with out going into threads on washer shaft. There's nothing in the gears of agitator or threads on washer shaft. What happened?

If you hold the lower agitator and the screw still spins, what should I do? When it first wasn't working it would freely spin and the bolt was loose. I tightened the bolt and it worked great. Now it won't agitate but the dogs are still engaging so i tried to tighten or loosen the bolt and it just spins even if I hold the lower agitator. Hmmmmm?????

If you start at the 3:08 part in the video you can see the two little locking tabs that he is referring to that are located on the lower agitator. Those would be the tabs that you are trying to line up with the locking clips on the agitator dog assembly.

@@appliancepartspros I am doing this right now and afraid to push too hard on the agitator assembly to lock the two pieces together. I did push... heard a click,... but the cylinders are not locked together, and now one of the tabs in the bottom part is bent... the plastic tab seems quite flexible, and i used plyers to straighten it. Is there anyway to fix the problem without buying a whole new bottom part with tabs that will lock? Thank you for any assistance.

Nice, same as the web site that can't proofread their own directions and lame explanations before they put hem on the site making it seem like you are working with a dryer in your instructions rather than a washer.
No short to the point reason for anything going wrong here either. like wtf causes this problem. what a load of crap!!!~! I dont see why some normal , not too far out of the way Human help would be too much to ask.
PROS?" Hardly./ What happens when this part breaks:
If you are in need of an agitator repair kit, your dryer may be experiencing a noisy agitator, or an agitator that spins freely in both directions. If your agitator is no longer agitating properly, your clothes will not tumble, and will not be washed properly.
Where are the dryer agitator parts located? are they cheaper than the washer agitator parts?

@@appliancepartspros Roper model RTW4640YQ1. I found Ropers are cheaply made and when I added springs and new balance rods a few years ago, when I disconnected them, the whole motor hit the floor while on a name brand, they stayed balanced in air. I bought the agitator dogs and ratchet extension and got started, I removed the top and there was nothing even covering the screw. I would need someone to hold both sides of the tub to hold it still and another person to unscrew the agitator with the ratchet. Unfortunately, I live alone and have nobody to help me within 100 miles. I am also disabled which is why I try to do costly repairs bc I can’t afford a new washer. Thanks for your reply and I hope you can think of something that can help.
