Thanks for reviewing my song! The song is about getting your heart broken and then continuing “On and On” with your life....someone better will eventually come along. -Stephen
@stephenbishopofficial Stephen, I was 16 when On and On came out. Spent a lot of quality time laying on the floor in front of the stereo console with this 45 playing on repeat. Save It for A Rainy Day was another favorite. Thank you for the memories! And thank you for taking a minute of your time to acknowledge these two beautiful people reacting to your work.
Great performance of a great song, Stephen. And thank you for taking time to comment. Jay & Amber have been on a 2 yr. journey to experience 60s, 70s, and 80s music. You'd be impressed to see how much they've learned about music over the last two years. Glad you stopped by.
Wow nice to see you’re watching this. My goodness I wore out multiple copies of Careless along with Breakaway by Garfunkel which had my 2 fav songs written by you!
I would definitely recommend listening to "It Might Be You", which is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and one of his best. The song is from the film "Tootsie" starring Dustin Hoffman which is a must see for your movie channel. Great reaction to a great artist!! For the Little River Band, two great songs from them are " Take It Easy On Me" from late 1981 and "Man On Your Mind" from mid 1982. Both are great songs I know you would enjoy Amber.
This is one of the songs that epitomizes that easy 70s soft rock ballad sound. And for some reason always takes me back to driving mom's Nova to my after-school job senior year. Funny how music can be so deeply connected to specific memories.
Very nice reaction to a beautiful song. I don’t think he’s singing about a problem that keeps happening on and on but rather is saying that even when you have a problem with your heart is broken, you just keep going on and on. That’s the thrust of all the lyrics of the song. That no matter what happens, you pick yourself up, you dust yourself off, and you go “on and on”. And Stephen Bishop is one of those famous “singer/songwriters“ of the 70s. This was his biggest hit. He’s also the (I think) the guy who is singing on the stairs in ANIMAL HOUSE and Belushi (as Bluto) grabs his guitar and smashes it to pieces. (Edit note: thanks to Sally Phillips for pointing out my error above, where I meant to say “dust yourself off”. Error made by dictation, and not proofreading. Fixed).
I had also heard that wasn’t in the script and that’s why he had such a surprised look on his face when Belushi did that. Did anybody else hear that or am I wrong?
"So he takes a ladder, steals some stars from the sky, puts on Sinatra and starts to cry!" That is THE best line in any song in the world. Out of the thousands and thousands songs ive heard, nothing comes close to me❤
Bish is so smooth. It Might Be You is another sweet ballad. Save It For A Rainy Day was his best known uptempo hit. He also wrote Separate Lives (Phil Collins) among others.
Seperate Lives is such a beautiful and heartbreaking song! It's definitely a song to listen to (I'm actually going to listen to it now that it's on my mind.... lok)!
Bishop still writes! Still releases music. His latest albums We'll Talk About It Later In The Car and Blueprint are both great. Dropped a Christmas release in 2019.
Oh this one’s a classic from 1977. Simply a beautiful song. Stephen Bishop also sang the theme from the movie “Tootsie” called “It Might Be You”, which is another beautiful song of his you should check out. “On And On” somehow always made me feel sad and happy at the same time. Great reaction as always! Fun fact: Stephen Bishop never hit number one as an artist, but he did manage to do so as a songwriter. He wrote “Seperate Lives”, which was a number one hit duet by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin, which I believe you guys already reacted to. ❤
Funny you'd mention how this song is one of those "happy & sad" songs. I haven't heard this song for decades, but apparently, it's still able to make me smile and cry at the same time. "On and on....." so true.
He's in a few John Landis films. He's credited as "Charming Guy" in Kentucky Fried Movie. "Charming Guy with guitar" in Animal House. "Charming Trooper" in Blues Brothers. And "Charming G.I." in Twilight Zone: The Movie.
Little River Band suggestions: "Help Is On Its Way", "Man on Your Mind", "Take It Easy on Me", "The Other Guy", and "Happy Anniversary", just to name a few you haven't reacted to yet. P.S. Stephen Bishop is a good pick!
Once more, this is what was on the radio when I was a kid in the 1970's. This was a big hit. Thanks guys. gives me that old, nostalgic feeling when I hear them 70's hits. Peace and love people. Bless your hearts. Needed that.
@RobSquadReaction. Aw....sorry. Wish we could be fb friends, guys. I only do fb and TH-cam. Thanks though. I'm disabled, in very ill health and mostly alone, now. It is nice to check in with the Rob Squad Fam. It always picks me up when I am down. Loving you in East Tennessee. Peace.
I use to cry uncontrollably whenever I heard this song on the radio back in the 70's. I had no idea why as I was just 4 years old. I had no concept of the lyrics and what it meant, but for some god damn reason it just tore me up.
I was lucky to see this guy and his band at a free concert at a shopping mall outside got a free autograph picture then this album became a huge hit and this song too and some other songs then the theme song in the movie Tootsie how many of you noticed him in Animal House hes the guy singing on the stairs when John Belushi breaks his guitar he's seem to faded away haven't heard anything in years ive always been thankful to have seen him in person when he was just hitting stardome .Thanks Stephen

Stephen Bishop is an underrated artist on and on was his big hit and I’m glad that you reacted to that video. Never letting go is a tearjerker. It’s along the lines of fire and rain, and if you could read my mind by the way, your reactions to those songs was excellent as well. Here’s a trivia question for both of you in animal House Stephen Bishop was the singer who had a guitar broken over his head by John Belushi. Keep up the good work.
Stephen Bishop is a great songwriter. He had some big hits, but he doesn't write top 40-type music. You guys would love "Save it For a Rainy Day" with Chaka Khan singing background. He wrote some movie songs as well.
I love his credits in John Landis films. "Charming Guy" in Kentucky Fried Movie. "Charming Guy with guitar" in Animal House. "Charming Trooper" in Blues Brothers. And "Charming G.I." in Twilight Zone: The Movie (which has that Vietnam scene that references Animal House's ending, when one of the soldiers says they shouldn't have shot Lt Neidermeyer!)
Jay and Amber I have a list of other artists from the 70s that you have not reacted to before. Give these a try please Staple Singers-I'll Take You There, Dave Mason- We Just Degree, Johnny Nash- I Can See Clearly Now, Hot Chocolate- I Believe in Miracles(You Sexy Thing), Nick Gilder- Hot Child in the City, Alan O'Day- Undercover Angel, Heatwave- Boogie Nights, Marmalade-Reflections of My Life, LaBelle-Lady Marmalade, Three Degrees-When Will I See You Again, Freda Payne-Band of Gold. And here are a few that you've only reacted to once or twice, but either didn't pick their biggest hit or missed another hit that deserves a listen to. Rose Royce-Car Wash, Pablo Cruise-Watcha Gonna Do or Love Will Find a Way, Seals & Crofts-Get Closer, Bill Withers-Lean On Me,.
Always loved this one. When it came out, I also noticed that line, "so he takes a ladder, steals the stars from the sky, puts on Sinatra and starts to cry," but I'd gotten a different meaning out of it. For decades, I thought it meant that stealing the stars was him dressing up in his best to make himself feel better and confident in himself again. He puts on Sinatra's persona, his swagger and his coolness to push past it. But it doesn't work, and he starts to cry.
It’s art, man! Different vibes on different levels @ different moments in time….. fluctuating & regenerating …. enjoy the moment,,,, & later ,,,,, enjoy the moment. And again……… (a shiver, & a sigh).
Great song dealing with persistence against all obstacles! OK Little River Band suggestions! Reminiscing, Cool Change, Lady, Lonesome Loser, among others!❤❤😂🎉😅They are one of the great bands from Australia! Later!❤❤ Oh yeah, another great one by them is Help Is On Its Way! Goodbye again!😅😅❤❤
Beautiful "yacht rock" number. I remember this so well from high school -- my friends and I loved this and sang it together. We especially liked the line "puts on Sinatra" and the image of looking for a ladder so you can steal the stars from the sky -- because you're sad.
It Might Be You by Stephen bishop is beautiful. I think you’ll love it. Also Save It for a Rainy Day. As for LRB I’m not sure what youve already reacted to. Reminiscing is my fav song. Lady is lovely. Help Is On the Way. Cool Change. Take It Easy on Me. Happy Anniversary. Night Owl. Lonesome Loser. We Two. So many great songs.
Amber, First things first. You want more Little River Band? You should start with their seminal 1976 hit, It's A Long Way There and follow it up with their 1978 hit Happy Anniversary. Then make your way to my favorite LRB tune of all time, Take It Easy On Me. You'll appreciate the breadth and width of their musicality. As for Stephen Bishop, he had some great hits in the late 70s like Save It For A Rainy Day, as well as It Might Be You in 1983.
Good intro to Stephen Bishop!!! Good reaction!!! Earl Stephen Bishop (born November 14, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter, actor, and guitarist. His biggest hits include "On and On", "It Might Be You.:
I'm so glad you did this song. Just so good. He writes great songs. "Save It For a Rainy Day", "Madge", "Heart and Soul"... Definitely need to revisit Stephen Bishop another day :) Little River Band... That's a bit harder as you've done most of my favorites. "Take It Easy on Me" is good, "Man on Your Mind" was on the radio quite a bit, "Happy Anniversary" maybe?
If you love discovering artists you never heard, try Neil Sedaka -- American Bandstand host Dirk Clark referred to Neil Sedaka as a "Hits Machine", because was belting out hit songs one after another (60's and 70's), in addition to writing them for other artists. . You asked for other Little River Band suggestions. I especially like "Take it Easy On Me ", "Help Is On Its Way" and "Happy Anniversary". Other good hits are "Man On Your Mind", "We Two" and "The Other Guy".
Nice whiskey song there! "Save it for a Rainy Day" another good Bish song. Looking for help in the Little River Band category, well, "Help Is On The Way" is a great LRB song.
I remember this song as a child, my Godfather would take us to school and we'd be tortured listening to Lite FM ..lol I now love those songs. Mr Bishop sorta reminds you of Mr Paul Simon
Great memories attached to this song! Thanks for reacting to it. Another good Stephen Bishop tune is "Save It For a Rainy Day," with cameos from Eric Clapton and Chaka Khan!
Bish is so talented! Wrote several movie themes; Tootsie, Arthur, China Syndrome, Animal House. Other songs to consider- It Might Be You ( great Tootsie theme), Save It For a Rainy Day, Separate Lives (acoustic version), Red Cab To Manhattan, City Girl. Thanks again, I really enjoy watching the two of you and your great reactions!
Same here. It was difficult to get individual albums on CD. I have "Careless" and "Bish" as Japanese imports, very expensive. However I did eventually get a "Best Of Bish" on CD years later.
I hope you consider listening to Stephen Bishops’s “It Might Be You” from the movie Tootsie. Its another one of his, BIshop’s, big hits and probably shows more of his vocal range.
Amber, regarding Little River Band may I suggest: Lady, Reminiscing, Cool Change, Night Owl, Lonesome Loser and Help Is On the Way for diving deeper into their catalogue. Any of these will get you there. :)
My son and his friend just covered this and it’s going to be released soon as his first single from his new album! This is one that my son said reminds him of me because I used to listen to it all the time!😂😊❤️
I remember this song well as it played on the radio the summer before my first year of high school. Great songs played on WRBR and U93 radio in the 70s.
This has always been a guilty pleasure song for me. If you've ever seen the 1970's movie "Animal House" , there is a scene where Belushi grabs a guitar from a guy singing and smashes it. The singer is Stephen Bishop.
Stephen bishop is one of my favorite songwriters. Save it for a rainy day is another great one. He also wrote the theme from the movie tootsie, it might be you, and separate lives for the movie white nights, sung by phil collins and a female pop singer whose name escapes me now. I think marilyn something.
Thanks for reviewing my song! The song is about getting your heart broken and then continuing “On and On” with your life....someone better will eventually come along. -Stephen

The song is so beautiful, the movie is great
They should watch the movie and listen to the song. So good.
If you guys have seen the movie Animal House, he’s in a very funny scene with John Belushi.
Tootsie is an amazing movie. "I'm Edward Kimberly."
Little River Band were amazing! More of a fan of Glenn Shorrock than John Farnham, both both phenomenal performers
This is one of the songs that epitomizes that easy 70s soft rock ballad sound. And for some reason always takes me back to driving mom's Nova to my after-school job senior year. Funny how music can be so deeply connected to specific memories.
that's cool i had a nova
One of my sisters' first car was a Nova.
In this terrible world today....
I crashed my cousin's nova around then!
I agree! Memories of that summer before high-school, listening to the radio in my bedroom with the window open for a cool breeze.
Very nice reaction to a beautiful song. I think you meant to say you dust yourself off?
was going to make reference to "Animal House" as possible movie reaction and connection to Stephen Bishop but you beat me to it... well said...
He also sings the Theme song to Animal House, "Animal House". Catchy Song.
I had also heard that wasn’t in the script and that’s why he had such a surprised look on his face when Belushi did that. Did anybody else hear that or am I wrong?
@@sallyphillips9175 yeah! 🙄 Thanks for spotting that. I was dictating that and didn’t proofread. I’ll fix it.

Chaka Khan does the background vocals on Save it for a Rainy Day. Fun fact, Eric Clapton does the brief guitar solo in that same song.

Takes a ladder, steals the stars from the sky... Put's on Sinatra and stars to cry. What a beautiful lyric!
Save it for a rainy day is another great cut by Stephen Bishop.
Little River Band- Help Is On Its Way, Lady, Happy Anniversary
Lady! Yes, love that song! My favorite is Cool Change.

Stephen Bishop also wrote and sang the theme song for Animal House :D
@@johnmyers5315 indeed he did! Thanks for the reminder. 😊
He also performed 'Somewhere In Between', the only music in the entire movie 'The China Syndrome' (1979)
Beautiful song from 1977. Three years after I was born. Love the 70s sad and soothing music.
One of the best years for music. I was 14 and having the most fun ever. This always reminds of that summer.

This is a very mellow and laid back song. Easy listening at it's best
Laid back mellow pure Seventies A.M. classic.
If you've seen Animal House, he's the guy singing the love song that John Belushi busts the guitar up.
Wow! All the times I saw that movie I never realized that.
He's in a few John Landis films. He's credited as "Charming Guy" in Kentucky Fried Movie. "Charming Guy with guitar" in Animal House. "Charming Trooper" in Blues Brothers. And "Charming G.I." in Twilight Zone: The Movie.
Around the same time as Stephen Bishop there was Elvin Bishop who sang "Fooled around and Fell in Love".
Elvin was the guitarist... the actual singer on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" was Mickey Thomas from (Jefferson) Starship.
This just hit very differently at 58 than it did at 12.
Amen brother....
Never a truer word spoken. At 59, I'm coming way around from 13, and what a different world now. Wow.

This came out when i was a young girl and i have loved it forever!! So sweet.

Nice whiskey song there! "Save it for a Rainy Day" another good Bish song. Looking for help in the Little River Band category, well, "Help Is On The Way" is a great LRB song.
Since J loves his bass, I have to suggest "Happy Anniversary" by Little River Band. It has great harmonies and the funkiest bass part you can find.
For Little River Band: "Help Is on Its Way" "Happy Anniversary" "Curiosity (Killed the Cat)" "It's a Long Way There"
I remember this song as a child, my Godfather would take us to school and we'd be tortured listening to Lite FM ..lol I now love those songs. Mr Bishop sorta reminds you of Mr Paul Simon
I had this album new back then. Still one of my favorite artists today.
Seen a couple folks mention it, but "It Might Be You" is your next assignment for sure. Great tune.
Great memories attached to this song! Thanks for reacting to it. Another good Stephen Bishop tune is "Save It For a Rainy Day," with cameos from Eric Clapton and Chaka Khan!
I haven't heard this one in years. So Nice
Been waiting for this reaction 🔥
U both are awesome and such a pleasure to watch and be part of the RS..👊
Bish is so talented! Wrote several movie themes; Tootsie, Arthur, China Syndrome, Animal House.
Other songs to consider- It Might Be You ( great Tootsie theme),
Save It For a Rainy Day,
Separate Lives (acoustic version),
Red Cab To Manhattan,
City Girl.
Thanks again, I really enjoy watching the two of you and your great reactions!
Believe he had a cameo in the great movie animal house. Bellucci broke his guitar on the stairway during a party. 😅
@@RobertSmith-iw2kb Yes, he also played one of the guards.
Thanks!
I have always loved this song. I love Stephen Bishop's catalog of music.
Same here. It was difficult to get individual albums on CD. I have "Careless" and "Bish" as Japanese imports, very expensive. However I did eventually get a "Best Of Bish" on CD years later.
@@seanswinton6242 Yes the Japanese imports are expensive, but how is it that it's not in the USA?
Stephen is one of my favorites! He never disappoints! Thanks for doing this one. Try "It Might be You". You'll love it.
He composed the theme song for a movie called Tootsie, starring Dustin Hoffman. You might like both the theme and the movie.
This has always been a guilty pleasure song for me. If you've ever seen the 1970's movie "Animal House" , there is a scene where Belushi grabs a guitar from a guy singing and smashes it. The singer is Stephen Bishop.
Another suggestion to one of your favorite Rock vocalists. Journey, Stone In Love.
"and he smiles when he feels like crying" hits me everytime
This entire genre, singers/songwriters of the 70s…awesome stuff!
Stephen bishop is one of my favorite songwriters. Save it for a rainy day is another great one. He also wrote the theme from the movie tootsie, it might be you, and separate lives for the movie white nights, sung by phil collins and a female pop singer whose name escapes me now. I think marilyn something.
Save it for a rainy day with Stephen Bishop
