One of my all time favorite dream cars! An early predecessor to the 1994-96 Impala SS. There's not too many low mileage examples left. ☹️

That gauge cluster was the biggest visual upgrade from the standard Caprice’s. The Roadmaster’s package was awesome, but that digital speedo was so cool.

I had the same car! 19 city 29 highway, no bullsh*t! Theeee best friggin' car that ever came out of Detroit - or, in this case, Arlington, Texas. It was the last '96 on the lot (Holler Chevrolet in Winter Park, Florida - out of business now), a special package at a special price: $18,995. We shall never see its like again.

The LT1 V8, starting in model year 1994, totally transformed these big GM cars. I had a 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood, LT1 V8, modified exhaust(stock cat converters) modified intake, 3.73 posi rear end, computer calibrated for those mods and to run on 93 octane gas. That 4500lb sled ran a 14.4 in the quarter mile@96mph.

I liked the Cadillac version, it was BIG, IMPOSING, AND IN CHARGE!! The Impala SS looked pretty sleek once they removed all the stupid chrome trim, hood ornament and fender skirts. Basically de-fuddyfied/un-old manned it with a proper set of wheels. The Roadmaster sedan, yeah its an acquired taste. I'd buy one for a driver but not something I'd want hogging garage space as a collector car.

@@thomassmith4467 Rodger Smith(CEO of GM in the 80's) HATED the old body on frame cars, he wanted to make GM exclusively FWD, which was seen as "trendy" and "high tech" back in the day.
Only reason he relented was the fat profit margins on these body on frame cars(and smaller ones like the Regal and Cutlass Supreme). Tooling/engineering was long paid for back in the 70's.

In 1993 they offered the 350 cubic inch V8 in the last year of the Caprice LTZ. The following year 1994 they switched over to the LT1 350 V8 as the top engine choice in the Caprice line. I honestly like the 1991-1993 LTZ for its more cushy ride.

My parents bought a 1991 Caprice Classic with the F41 Handling suspension after the transmission in their 1983 Olds 98 gave out for the third time. The Caprice was the same shade of Dark Maroon as the LTZ in the test. It was a good riding car and got very good gas mileage for a full size vehicle I remember my mom commenting on a road trip from NC to IN that it got 27 mpg at highway speeds which I suspect with mom at the wheel was close to 70 as she always had a lead foot. It even held up well when a Taurus driver ran a red and hit the left front of the Caprice resulting in minor damage to the Caprice but disabling damage to the Taurus. My parents traded the Caprice for a Chevrolet Blazer which was the LAST GM car they bought as it was a major lemon. Switching to Ford after that and then to Honda.

Never liked the first few years of this design, the '91-'93 models. The enclosed rear wheel wells looked stupid, and the interior design wasn't appealing to me either. Chevrolet fixed most of the styling mistakes by the '94 model year, (I had a '94 police model), although I still didn't like how the front grill was attached to the hood. I always preferred my '90 9c1 box version.
