We were robbed of a Batman Beyond film with Michael Keaton. I would trade the entire DCEU for that film.

Twenty-five years ago, we were promised a final Burton film (although Schumacher would have directed it) that would have featured, among other things, one last appearance by Jack Nicholson as the Joker (in a dream sequence featuring other past villains). George Clooney would have starred, which would have been a major liability, but at least we'd have had the Batman saga coming full-circle after BATMAN & ROBIN took it down a road where it was never supposed to go.
I'm left unfulfilled. The closest we've gotten to a direct sequel to BATMAN RETURNS was Sam Hamm's BATMAN '89 comics miniseries a few years ago, and that did NOT meet with my approval. All we got was a "realistic," politically charged crime drama that just happened to be set in Burton's Gotham - and it no longer even looked like Burton's Gotham, except for some pointless fanservice.
I feel that the people who've been charged with upholding the "original" Batman legacy are no longer trying. Both BATMAN RETURNS and the '89 film left me with a number of questions, and I want them answered. I really wanted Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert Wuhl to all come back. I wanted to see, for good and all, whether any sort of Robin or Nightwing figure ever made an appearance. I was even looking forward to the imminent arrival of Jack Napier's daughter (either Madonna or Courtney Love in the '90s, although now it would most likely have to be someone else); pitting Batman against the orphan HE created would be a poetic way to end everything, with history more or less repeating itself.

The film _around_ him waxed and waned between good and flawed IMHO, but even though his third go-around was short, I could tell Michael was _still_ giving it his best even with the material and screen time he was given to work with; a testament to the kind of actor he is I feel.

    Michael Keaton IS Batman.
To speak to a couple of your concerns.
    1. On the note of “Batman would never assault a criminal in front of their kid”, he’s actually done that in the comics numerous times… AND in BTAS i.e. one of the reasons why Dick Grayson left.
    2. “Why does he know so much about time travel?” Those theories discussed exist OUTSIDE of comic books, and best believe BATMAN would’ve read something about it.

I'm not so sure we've seen the last of him. The ending of Flash read as a clear reset with Keaton and Supergirl going back to whatever universe they were pulled from into Snyder land. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back for Batman Beyond especially with the monster opening of Beetlejuice 2. We shall see.

I think Keaton's Batman was taken out of his universe and placed into the altered DCEU. I think that whole spaghetti analogy was supposed to be that message that this is the same Michael Keaton Batman we saw back in 1992 but was just taken out of his world. Many didn't seem to get that distinction. The reason why younger Barry recognizes the Batmobile is because as the reality changes, so does its history and memories to fit this new reality. The same could've happened with George Clooney.
Also Keaton's Batman did have a Robin. I didn't read Batman '89 but I'm assuming that at some point Marilyn Wayne's Robin probably did help with Batman since he was originally a car mechanic who was hired by Bruce Wayne and then eventually Robin left. Alfred later passed away and Batman was all alone with Gotham City becoming a better place and no longer needing him. That's how I interpreted the Flash movie.

    • @robfalgiano
      @robfalgiano 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@atavious2491 I’m not sure. Because when Barry arrives in Batman 92’s universe there’s no Wonder Woman or Superman. But who knows if the universes all get scrambled any time someone alters time. I enjoyed the spaghetti scene. I enjoyed the whole movie. I think it’s totally underrated. The irony is that it actually ends perfectly. That Barry can never get back to the universe he came from but he gets to live out a hopefully satisfying existence working with Clooney’s Batman and Aquaman in the universe he’s in.

They gave the reason. Gotham is cleaned up, so he’s forced into not being Batman. Kind of similar to Bale at the start of TDKR when he’s looking for a reason to get back in the suit. Also totally agreed on the bad lighting and angling for him in the suit on screen, felt the exact same. Him having sculpted musculature armor in 89 made sense. It was based on Greco-Roman armor, also implied with his experimental armor collection in Wayne Manor, and in that film, he’s an urban myth and a creature of the night. It made sense the gradual evolution of organic musculature as a creature of urban legend to a more mechanized body armor Knight look. That’s also why I’m not a fan of the Schumacher and Snyder suits. I don’t picture Bruce Wayne sculpting muscles on his suit to the point of fetishization. It’s goofy looking. And very overtly homoeortic. I love the Flash modern Keaton bat suit. A few different tweaks here and there, may be a little more production budget and way better lighting and cinematography, and it could’ve been truly great. I like how it was basically an evolution and combination of 89 suit, Returns suit, and a dash of Forever Panther suit color blocking and Batman Begins.

There's a deleted scene from The Flash that implied Keaton's Batman accdenitly killed a criminal in front of their child and he studied time-travel in order to stop himself from committing the act. Bruce ultimately had to accept that there was nothing he could to change the past and decided to retire. To add insult to injury Gotham's crime rate went down after he quit and the city become a safer place. I wish that scene had stayed because, apart from explaining how Bruce surprisingly knows so much about time-travel, this also explains more why Bruce the state he's in.Another nice about that scene is that Bruce becomes a parallel to Barry's journey in the story about having to let go the past, accepting that there's things that he change but still be able to have a life.

For me, Michael Keaton's return as Batman was just as epic and memorable as Tobey Maguire's return as Spidey in No Way Home was. The Flash may have been a mess of a movie, especially compared to No Way Home, but Keaton was still easily the highlight of it. It is a shame we won't see either the Batgirl movie or even Keaton's scene in Aquaman 2, but who knows what the future might bring. WB really should take advantage of Beetlejuice 2 by having Keaton and Tim Burton team up again for a Batman Beyond movie as each of their own follow-up project. After all, Batman 89 was their follow up to Beetlejuice 1, heh.
I don't care if James Gunn isn't a fan of Keaton's Batman, he really shouldn't let his personal bias get in the way of what we fans all want. I'd certainly would rather see Keaton in a Beyond movie rather than this Brave and the Bold reboot movie they've got planned in spite of there ALREADY being a rebooted Batman film series going with Robert Pattinson. I get that the Brave and the Bold movie is supposed to be in the same continuity as the new Superman/DC movie universe, but they sure are going crazy with rebooting Bats lately. Sure would be nice if the WB execs would have the guts to go over James Gunn's head and order a Batman Beyond movie anyway in spite of what he wants to do. Don't mean to diss the guy, since the Guardians of the Galaxy movies were great, but he sure seems to have unpopular opinions for Batman.

Up until that point Ben Affleck was his Batman, and he just encountered some old athletic dude with a beard and stringy hair and talking about spaghetti. It was just a reinforcement, but also yes, a callback. You can’t have Michael Keaton as Batman in a movie 30 some years later and he doesn’t say it. That now iconic line of dialogue wasn’t even written in the 89 script, Michael Keaton created that ad-lib. You do understand that, correct? He invented the most famous and iconic line of dialogue for the character, ever. He has to say it. He just delivers it as a tired old man and it is a reaffirming confirmation for both Ezra Miller and the audience. It works on both levels. An example of forced and nonsensical callback dialogue painfully inserted into a movie where it doesn’t make sense would be the Get away from her you bitch from Alien Romulus

If there's a Batman I can believe would make the mistake of killing a guy in front of his kid, it's Keaton's Batman. He's always struck me as the most unhinged Batman, especially when he was pissed off. Perhaps he didn't realize the kid was there, and when he did, that's when his conscience broke him.

Here's the thing, though. BatKeaton AND Sasha Callé's Supergirl were ALWAYS intended by Andy to return at the end during the courthouse scene. There's proof that they shot this ending. Zaslav and James Gunn are the ones who pulled a Eric Bischoff misusing Bret Hart, by tacking on an outtake ending where Clooney appears.
When that happened, I was done with DC anything. It's been run by a hypocrite and a fanboy of his OWN cast members. Sasha can't come back for Woman of Tomorrow, but Cena can for Peacemaker? That was it for me. Now, more than a year later, I'm all the better by not having new DC films in my headspace. The Flash was the last masterpiece, and I'm more than okay with that.

Somehow the long hair and beard looked both bad and fake, could have done without them, otherwise Keaton (and the reactivation of the Batcave scene) Is about the only worthwhile things from this film.

I actually liked the flash overall but it should have been more closer to the storyline they were using cause it barely felt like the flashpoint storyline in what we got and your u sited the misconception of Batman’s one rule the rule is actually no killing with a gun cause Batman has killed many times in the comics since the rule was established in the 40’s and it came about due to real world events like the st Valentine’s Day massacre test happened that caused the government to look at things like the violence in comics at the time and asked for it to be toned down so Batman stopped being a gun toting vigilante and the in universe explanation for him not using guns anymore was thst he was going to use the same type weapon test took the life of his own parents which started his rule no killing with a gun the straight up no killing rule never existed in the first place and Clooney even though isn’t my first choice for Batman wasn’t as bad as people make him out to be and Batman and robin does have its issues but trying a lay them all at Clooney’s feet for his portrayal of Batman isn’t accurate in my opinion cause there are other people who blame for the issue with Batman and Robin not just Clooney and this doesn’t mean that I’m defending him or the movie just to not make it all Clooney’s fault

I really hated the manner in which they introduced him into the story.
Making him and his world the result of time travel altering the DCeU and erasing it in the end. They erased both Affleck and Keaton in this movie.
Why not make him be from a separate universe?
Also disappointed that he doesn’t share a universe with Reeve nor Cage’s Superman

There wasn’t enough of Supergirl or quality of Supergirl to even make that claim. Michael Keaton was definitely the best part, and even though he’s a total weirdo, Ezra Miller actually gave a really good acting performance, and there was some quality heart to the film.
