Simon is such a great player. But his willingness to share his knowledge is simply generous. He is the real deal and I believe his offerings/ products are so unique in that they are not your typical OD or preamp, he really offers so much tone shaping ability if your willing to really understand the pedals operation. He doesn’t seem to hold back or just slam together a typical circuit with a minor tweak just to get a pedal on the market. Absolutely genuine. Thanks gentlemen.

Oh yes! Another episode with Simon! What a treat! Last time he was on he taught me you don't need to beat the crap out of your guitar to get epic tone. He has such a light touch and still has really beautiful tone! (I think I still need to take that lesson to heart though haha!)
Simon does so much with volume adjustments and playing dynamics. I could listen to him play for hours. "Tasty" guitar player. Somewhere, there is a Kingsley-Minstrel in my future (for sure).

Learnt more about amps & gain in 1hr 19m, than I learned in the first 20 years of playing. Simon explains it, well enough for me to understand it, which is a skill in itself! Great show guys 👌
I bought two Fender Bassman 20's and had them modified: upgraded the output transformers, optimized the preamp circuitry. The mod that was most important after that was to have the line-out socket turned into a power-amp input bypassing the preamp. The inspiration came directly from the idea to purchase and use one of Simon's floor preamps and run the two in stereo.
Wow, that is the best Les Paul tone I’ve ever heard! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard great Les Paul tones, but this is just so clear and crisp and full of fidelity and feel! You have to be a proficient player though, this tone will reveal every nuance of your playing, good and bad.
Mick do not apologize for the talking. I have found this topic extremely interesting and Simon's explanation was very intuitive and informative. I would have been more than happy with him explaining the circuit designs and how they work for the entire episode. I want to learn more about it. I wish u guys could get him back on the show for a lecture on this topic.

I get my Juggler & Constable next week from Simon. I just purchased the only Fryette 2/50/2 power amp available on reverb or anywhere in North America. Also just got the only Humdinger I could find as well. LOVED the explanation of the ODS circuit and Mick pointing out the 12AX7 triode function. I tinker with restoring old tube radios as well as diy guitar pedals and this - along with Simons' description of the placement of EQ - got me thinking about how I might replicate that in pedal circuit design. Love this kind of content - you guys have a great mastery of sound design. Thank you!
Wow, what an incredibly educational episode! Simon is a deep well of knowledge and he has such a great way of explaining things. Not to mention a KILLER guitarist! I'm going to be watching this one several times.
I primarily make single ended amps. But my Ed Robertson Signature Head is PP 6V6 and I use an autoformer to create the phase inversion. So the signal goes into the autoformer then ground (or bias) the center tap of the autoformer and the other side creates an exact 180 degree out of phase signal. The other cool thing is the output tubes see a very low DC resistance. Most of the phase inverters are 12AX7A and they are boosted in bias. This is why you can overdrive the phase inverter. What a great show, makes me pick up a pen and paper and design something new. Thanks! Gordon

Spent some time with my "Amp guy" today dialing in an old amp and the information in this episode helped me understand why what he did worked. We swapped out the tubes in V2 and V4 with some lower gain tubes to get the gain staging more to my liking. Then I added an Eminence Delta Pro 12a speaker and......Perfecto. It all matters. Because tone! Thanks for the knowledge.

Man, Simon’s “touch” is just magic! So luxurious and refined. What a joy to just listen to him noodle. On a related note, my Kingsley Page is fast becoming my always on pedal.
I also received my Kingsley page earlier this year. I have tried different pedals into it( and vis versa) try fi 18 watt color driver, venuram shanks and a Doric’s RC booster. And they are all very nice pedals. But I find I prefer the page alone into my amp and to just ride the guitars volume knob. The page my just be my favorite pedal I own. I’m not fan an mick but I got a “couple” pedals. Just through years of accumulation.

When Dan is using the Lightspeed into the Kingsley set on the clean tone, that's my favorite. I actually like using a Dumble style clean with pedals for overdrive, because of the less compressed, more open sound.
I have one of Simon's pedals the Harlot. I think he is one of the most innovative pedal makers we have today. I just love his stuff, his playing and instruction.
Yes, yes, yes! Have Simon back on TOMORROW! I want to hear about two things not covered here . . . . using one of these babies with solid state power amp like the Seymour Duncan PowerStage . . . . and going direct to DAW or FOH PA.
Perfect timing. I reached the head of the waiting list on Thursday and had been thinking of the Artisan for a while. This nailed my decision! - if I can get half the tone Simon acheived it’ll be that piece of the puzzle I’ve been seeking for a couple of years now - rich sax-like sustain at the roll of the volume knob.

Great show - I have been preparing an old Peavey Bandit for one of Simon's pedals. It has an effects loop and with a new speaker may sound great in the shed! Remember, Poutine must only be served with the finest cheese curds! St. Albert curds in my region!
I really like the concept of maximising the amp’s core components and tone by using a pre-amp pedal, rather than just simply laying multiple OD pedals over the top. It’s a similar concept to making the most of your guitar by using the tone and volume controls, rather than using your pedals EQ to shape the sound. So many sounds to explore, and not enough hours in the day.
Very very late to the Kingsley party and have been looking into acquiring a 'Page' boost recently and came across these videos. What a fantastic human being Simon is. Fantastic guitar player, pedal designer and person in general. Such great insight in this video and learned so much about tubes and gain stages along with how the interaction between preamp, phase inverters and power amp sections actually work. Now I'm off to the Kingsley website to empty my wallet!! 😂

Great info on effects loops. I've never been more disappointed in an amp than when I engaged the passive effects loop of my Two-Rock Bloomfield Drive. That's when I truly understood the phrase, "tone suck." It was palpable. I even did an experiment where I ran nothing but a 4-inch patch cable through the effects loop, and it was like a wet blanket was thrown over that glorious Two-Rock tone. It's pretty much unusable... so even the best of amps are susceptible to poor effects loops. I also have a Friedman Wildwood 20, and that effects loop is awesome.

I've been using a Monoprice 15w tube amp for a year, home use. Amazing amp. Then i decided to plug a modeler into the effects loop, and that absolutely transformed the sound! It really cleaned it up, close to a Fender amp now. The MP15 sounds a bit boxy on its own, but a modeler into the FX opens the tone up. Highly suggested. It feels like I have many amps at my disposal. Also, some people use only the return, but i like to mix the tubes preamp and the pedal preamp, sounds great.
This was an absolutely wonderful educational and informative video! Simon is amazing and so knowledgeable. Dan, Mick, not to sound gushy, but thank you for amazing content that i spires us all.

I have one of Simon's pedals the Harlot. I think he is one of the most innovative pedal makers we have today. I just love his stuff, his playing and instruction.

Perfect timing. I reached the head of the waiting list on Thursday and had been thinking of the Artisan for a while. This nailed my decision! - if I can get half the tone Simon acheived it’ll be that piece of the puzzle I’ve been seeking for a couple of years now - rich sax-like sustain at the roll of the volume knob.

Great show - I have been preparing an old Peavey Bandit for one of Simon's pedals. It has an effects loop and with a new speaker may sound great in the shed! Remember, Poutine must only be served with the finest cheese curds! St. Albert curds in my region!

I really like the concept of maximising the amp’s core components and tone by using a pre-amp pedal, rather than just simply laying multiple OD pedals over the top. It’s a similar concept to making the most of your guitar by using the tone and volume controls, rather than using your pedals EQ to shape the sound. So many sounds to explore, and not enough hours in the day.

Very very late to the Kingsley party and have been looking into acquiring a 'Page' boost recently and came across these videos. What a fantastic human being Simon is. Fantastic guitar player, pedal designer and person in general. Such great insight in this video and learned so much about tubes and gain stages along with how the interaction between preamp, phase inverters and power amp sections actually work. Now I'm off to the Kingsley website to empty my wallet!! 😂

Great info on effects loops. I've never been more disappointed in an amp than when I engaged the passive effects loop of my Two-Rock Bloomfield Drive. That's when I truly understood the phrase, "tone suck." It was palpable. I even did an experiment where I ran nothing but a 4-inch patch cable through the effects loop, and it was like a wet blanket was thrown over that glorious Two-Rock tone. It's pretty much unusable... so even the best of amps are susceptible to poor effects loops. I also have a Friedman Wildwood 20, and that effects loop is awesome.
Between this and the Andy Timmons episode.. just spectacular guys! Superb.

I've been using a Monoprice 15w tube amp for a year, home use. Amazing amp. Then i decided to plug a modeler into the effects loop, and that absolutely transformed the sound! It really cleaned it up, close to a Fender amp now. The MP15 sounds a bit boxy on its own, but a modeler into the FX opens the tone up. Highly suggested. It feels like I have many amps at my disposal.
Also, some people use only the return, but i like to mix the tubes preamp and the pedal preamp, sounds great.
This was an absolutely wonderful educational and informative video! Simon is amazing and so knowledgeable. Dan, Mick, not to sound gushy, but thank you for amazing content that i spires us all.
