    Some magicians have said that using sponge balls for the cups and balls is not a good idea since the balls are not solid. Indeed, the use of sponge balls with the cups and balls has fallen out of favor of late. It used to be quite common. Kaps made it work, and work like a miracle. The balls completely fill the cups. It looks so impossible! Strong performance. Excellent misdirection. Beautiful routining. Few weak spots. This is a wonderful, brilliant cups and balls routine!

    you know when I decided to get into magic I just didn't want to do tricks but I wanted to be a true student of the art. I wanted to know the greats who paved the way and what a wise choice because Fred Kaps is truly awesome. I have caught a few things he did but i won't ell. This is just to beautiful to screw it up by telling people look here and look there. Simply enjoy the magic and beauty that it is.

    This is an awesome routine. Its a masterful, very well thought of sequence. Movements and palming were minimized. After watching many times, I learned the routine and performs them myself. In fact, I will be doing this routine next month for close-up competition. I change some parts, especially the last part to fit my style. If you want to see my version of this routine, search cups and balls fred kaps

    He does this perfectly. I do magic myself, and I know every move this guy does. But I can't see at all when he does them. They look perfectly natural.

    SHEER PERFECTION FROM THE GREATEST PERFORMER IN MAGICAL HISTORY!
    How 2 people have given this clip the thumbs down defies belief.
    Yes of course Fred would normally have pattered to this effect but it's aimed at magicians - hence there's quite a bit of 'jazzing' within the routine.
    I perform/prefer Ken Brooke's routine - but words cannot convey Fred Kaps ability demonstrating this magical classic.

    @JorickHorn Don't worry it's mostly magic students or magicians viewing these vids. laymen aren't going to get involved in the technical stuff. They can watch the vid without reading the comments and even if a laymen read my comments he won't understand them. If you do the C&B yourself, you should be interested in not only being entertained by Kapps but also learning from his technique, which you can't do if you don't understand the routine. So just regard it as a teach-in :)

  • @PreservationEnthusiast

    @Hardeen31 At 5:21 he gets the first lemon from his pocket and loads it in at 5:29 . At 5:43 he gets the second lemon from his pocket and loads it in at 5:48 . 5:56 At he gets the third lemon from his pocket and loads it in at 6:02 . Hegets the tomato at 6.23 fumbling in his pocket with his left hand loads in the tomato at 6.28 under misdirection of the lemons appearing.
    This was really quite a lame perfomance, I saw it all on the first viewing.

    @stobysorrento I'd lay the same criticism on Latimer's routine. It's not always obvious where the ball is *supposed* to be or what is supposed to be happening. FISM competition is judged by judges who are magicians themselves. They judge on 6 categories only one of which is entertainment value. Since they are not lay people they can't judge even that from a layman stance. The only thing that matters from an audience perspective is entertainment. Technique/originality etc is irrelevant,

  • @supersamuririce

    at 2:06 you can already see all three balls in the cup

  • @PreservationEnthusiast
    @PreservationEnthusiast 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @JorickHorn Don't worry, if you look at my other comment I exposed all of the loads for you. He used the loaded lift at 6:16 to 6:18 to show the cups empty. The lemons were already in, he held them up with his pinky finger right hand.
    I got all this first time through, but then I perform the effect and am very experienced in it so don't worry if you didn't pick it!

    Better "Misty" with intro patter ("This is a wooden stick!") than no patter and this unrelated Indian music.

  • @PreservationEnthusiast
    @PreservationEnthusiast 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @pbug If you want me to explain any part of the routine for you, feel free to ask! Actually I don't think this is a brilliant routine as set to music. The finals were slick but telegraphed, & in the initial phases, with no patter, it's not always possible to understand clearly or remember where the ball is "supposed to be" especially from a lay perspective. So when it turns up somewhere else, the wow factor is dampened. The routine requires more concentration than modern day audiences will give.

  • @pbug

  • @CaraBrimleyRules
    @CaraBrimleyRules 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @papagersh If you can't work out this routine just by watching it a few times, you don't deserve to be performing it! Why would you need notes if you've any experience in magic!

  • @PreservationEnthusiast
    @PreservationEnthusiast 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @stobysorrento I agree, the orginal patter was needed. This so-called "music" was HORRIBLE and lost its way in random notes. It was a SIN to remove the commentary of Mr Bongers, even though some of the routine was a bit naff.

    • @doomo

    I think we should post how he does the sleights and the final loads.

  • @PreservationEnthusiast
    @PreservationEnthusiast 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @GaryOuellet The music is TERRIBLE. It sounds out of tune and stops and starts, really slows down and loses its way in random notes etc. It RUINED the routine, I would have preferred to hear Bram Bongers patter.

  • @PreservationEnthusiast
    @PreservationEnthusiast 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MsPwninG Yes you are right, he just did a ball vanish into his left hand, and really had the ball in his right. He then brazenly turns a cup mouth up and drops the ball in there, you can see it! This is not magic at all it's terrible! All these people saying this guy is brilliant are quite wrong.
    Also, I HATE that music on the plonky planky old piano. I'd get a sledgehammer and SMASH the piano to shut the music up, HAHA.

    @javimirage You are mistaken sir. This was not very good and the plinky plonky piano music was dreadful. If you watch artists such as Paul Daniels, Chris Angel and David Blaine you will see they are much better.
