With the email newsletter, is there a way around putting down your home address and still be in compliance with the laws? Most of us work out of our homes, so that is my main apprehension about this.
No, unfortunately the only alternative is using a PO box, which is what I personally do. By law, you must have a physical address connected to each sent email.
One other question about email lists, can I message past customers with the offer to subscribe to a newsletter, or can it only be new customers moving forward?
I have three shops but I only share one publicly, as I am a manager at eRank and prefer to not have external traffic influence my stats. This allows me to perform meaningful experiments for eRank and it allows me to explore how the tools we develop directly influence traffic. I also sell on RedBubble and my own Wix store. In the coming months, I'll have another Etsy shop (currently in development) that I will be sharing publicly, which we are creating in order to teach my audience how to obtain legal licensing for copyright/trademarked themes. We hope to share the details of that shop in the fall. We're just waiting on approval for a few more of our licensing agreements.

I am planning to open 2 Etsy stores wherein 1 store will be dedicated to only giftable jewelry but my second Etsy store will have POD items like mugs,tees,sweatshirts etc from multiple evergreen and trendy niches and also digital download items like printables,canva templates,planners, social media templates to make it easier for me as I still work full-time so managing multiple Niche stores simultaneously will be difficult for me, would really appreciate your thoughts on this, thanks ahead of time🙏

That's absolutely an option as well for those who have websites. Not all sellers have both though. For sellers who DO have both a shop and a website, a mailing list can be an amazing tool because once contacts are on your mailing list, you can use your website link in all future email marketing, rather than your shop. For those only wanting to optimize for Etsy specifically though, driving repeat sales to a shop can help boost those listing quality scores in order to help you rank higher in search. So it really just depends on your goal, as a seller. Either way, a mailing list can help with both. 🙂
One reason would be if you drive your own customers, you only get those sales. Etsy will drive additional customers beyond those customers when it sees your listing is selling

This year was a bit of an anomaly. I think that a poor economic climate and lots of last minute shopping contributed heavily to the bad season. But I definitely believe we'll see traffic return. In the meantime, definitely do a bit of external marketing as well in order to drive a bit of your own traffic. 💛

Unfortunately you cannot. A customer must personally opt-in, so adding them without their permission is technically against email privacy laws. They would need to sign up on their own.

Yo Starla thanks for another great video. Is it true that Etsy has two separate algorithms, one for organic search and one for ads? That would mean you cannot build your organic quality score from ads. My stats would suggest something like that.🤔
Etsy does have a separate algorithm for ads, but this is just concerning placement when competing with other ads from search. Sales will help your organic placement, even if they came from ads or external marketing. 🙂 To Etsy, a sale is a sale. They made money, which means that boosting your listing quality score is in their best interest... because if that item is selling well, Etsy is also making money. They'll be more likely to show that listing to more people no matter where the purchase came from.

We actually hear this a LOT. I'm sure there is something going on with the algorithm behind the scenes that Etsy isn't telling us, but in terms of listing quality, you should still be accumulating Etsy brownie points for those sales. My personal speculation is that the traffic drops off as Etsy begins to decide organic placement for the listing, then though organic engagement, that listing will eventually begin floating back up in search. That's just a guess though based on what I've seen over the last few years with other sellers who have reported a similar drop after turning off ads.

Not listing the price of your course without clicking on something or giving personal information is extremely annoying. I and many others consider this a shady business practice and I will never consider actually buying any course, product, or service that uses such a practice.
I'm actually very transparent about the price of my course. But it's not currently open and won't be until summer, hence why I'm not promoting it right now. There's nothing shady about not promoting a product that is unavailable. You're just seeing this video a few months after it was originally posted. My course, when it is open, is $1,000.
It's not an option to set up through Etsy directly unless using Aweber (I believe). I'm pretty sure they have a direct integration with Etsy. I'm not a fan of Awebers ease of use, personally. Mailchimp has always been much more seamless.
Starting an email list before having customers can be a great way to hit the ground running for when you do start making sales. I almost ALWAYS recommend that sellers use social media for marketing to drive traffic during Etsy's naturally slow seasons, like spring and summer. You can learn more about the 3 forms of Etsy traffic here: th-cam.com/video/dxfUakb85F4/w-d-xo.html If you aren't planning to market externally, you're eliminating a large portion of what a "funnel" truly is, as the purpose of a funnel is to send people to Etsy from somewhere else, such as a social media account or an email list, ideally. Which means SEO would be your primary traffic source. If you do not want to use social media, I recommend investing 90% of your energy into ensuring your SEO is perfect, as this is your ONLY form of traffic currently. If emailing through Etsy, it has be related to a transaction. Therefore, you cannot email previous customers where the transaction has been completed.

So If you can drive traffic to Etsy then why not drive it to your own website?
