We Europeans owe Trump a strange debt of gratitude. He shattered the illusion of America as the beacon of democracy, revealing the fragility of its ideals. His leadership has forever altered our trust in the U.S. as a guarantor of security, especially against Putin and Russian expansionism.

Even if this is just a negotiation tactic, the allies of the US must carefully think about hosting US military bases and reliance on the US for security and supplier of critical weapons systems.
Europe is big enough to be empty of US troops and have its own development and production of all necessary weapons including fighter jets and nuclear weapons.

Why would Canada want to adopt your lack of gun laws (almost a mass killing EACH DAY somewhere in the US), no universal healthcare, elimination of the middle class, waste our tax dollars on weapons and supporting over 700 US militray bases around the world. What make you think that we would even remotely consider being a part of the US. We are a united country first and a province second. While United States is not even a country, but an agreement between States to form a psudo country. Why would we want to be a part of a country when we are already a strong and distinct society. It weren't forced sterilisations, what Denmark did, but the forced provision of contraception to avoid out of wedlock teenage pregnancies. The policy was also continued under self rule. Don't get me wrong, the application was traumatic for many of these women/children, accidents happened that made women infertile and consent was not taken to the degree it should have been. Still it's much more complicated than the maximalist alligation of sterilisation makes it look like. If we really want to get the world in a better shape, we got to take the time to understand things in context.

US 100yrs ago: champion of the right of self determination
    Objective: creating smaller countries
Europe at that time was large empires
Europe's two suicides in 2 World wars. All empires broke down. US became superpower. Ist challenge to US dominance was USSR so it had to be dismantled. US Objective achieved successfully by EU help.
Until there were no more challengers to US dominance everything was going fine until China emerged as a US rival. Again EU help required to pull down a fierce competitor. EU not helping in the manner required: threats of occupying Panama canal, Greenland started emerging. US now : expansionist . So guys it has always been about US interests not about principles ( right of self determination blah blah). Sold/taken orders for new weaponry to EU , now pushing for gas buying. Who is the sole winner of Russo Ukraine war? Ofc US. A divided dependent, allied EU : US interest .When will EU wake up & stand up for it's interests?

The issue isn’t just about a singular cause. Understanding this requires knowledge of political system typologies, history, and social science. It involves Russian autocracy, characterized by a kleptocratic Duma filled with billionaire FSB officials who cling to power until the bitter end, intent on passing their illicit wealth to their offspring and securing their positions. They could never do it, if they kept Russian constitution and institutes democratic, could never do it with a significant Russian-speaking population nearby living in a democracy in the EU. Without NATO, there’s a high chance that Putin would have targeted Baltic and Eastern European states much earlier, similar to what he is doing in Ukraine. The reason for the Ukraine war is internal Russian politics and a dictator, who is obsessed with Ukraine and power. It’s not an external bunch of uncoordinated allied with a contract has not even been anything but paper before the war.

From a good allie and and trading pardner of the US Canadians of all parties remember his first term and this one will be much worse than the first. It is disappointing that our european allies, fellow members of the G7, NATO and other democratic organisations are seeming saying there is no reason for the whole Western Hemisphere to be very concerned. How would you feel if if he decided he would like to take over 3 of your sovereign countries, inflict 25 percent tariffs on two because he doesn't understand either tariffs or that trade balances are not subsidies, and stop watching Fox new..jeez.

Are US soldiers going to murder the people that are their allies and allowed them to build military bases on their land?
I doubt that even a single US general would be willing to support Trump in this madness.

@ no the US does not defend us honey. First thing we will do if US attacks Greenland is to close every single one of the 13 US bases in Europe. You can count on that. US would be thrown out of NATO for attacking a member country.
US is the only country to have ever requested assistance from NATO, activating article 5. Every NATO country answered and assisted US in Afghanistan, which you guys then lost.
Denmark lost 50 men in Afghanistan and in all sent over 10.000 men over there to fight. Nobody will ever trust the US again if you do not keep it together and start acting like grownups.

The US has one of the largest trade deficits in the world! If the western world stopped its exports to the US, it would be devastating for every country, but the US people's entire lives would collapse. Pull a young person's sim card out of his phone and he is unconscious.

Bully? Or high pressure? A bit biased right off the bat. I’m not looking for opinions from news anchors. I expected more from DW but i might have to look for different news source 😢
