From a tuning perspective, if a copter feels "slidey" in turns, the first thing I do is raise yaw P gain. Maybe roll P gain too depending on how much uptilt the camera has, but mostly yaw usually. The symptom to me that is a dead giveaway that I need to raise yaw P is when it feels like I keep wanting to push the copter into the turn, like I need to roll and pitch more and raise throttle to sort of PUSH it into the turn. The copter feels like it is not GOING where it is POINTED. So I roll and yaw to point towards the line I want to take, but instead of taking that line, the copter feels like it is kind of keeping going the direction it was going. That all screams "raise yaw P gain" to me.
Just put together my first kiss setup, and during my maiden I saw the symptoms that you describe here... I am going to try your Yaw P advice. Are there any particular observations you could make given that it is a Kiss FC/ESC setup? Not sure if it makes a difference....

Nothing specific to KISS. In general, I think playing with P gains is something every pilot should try. You're unlikely to break anything and it will really give you a sense of how P affects flight feel. Take your default pitch and roll P gains and add 25%. Then add another 25% so they're 2x what they were. Fly a couple packs in between each one and notice what changes. Now put them back to defaults and double yaw P. Now double all of them from defaults. Etc.
Cool man. I understand there is a relation between P adjustments and motor temperature that I should be looking out for, is that true?
Its taken me a year to realise this, but yes absolutely. If you find its difficult to aim your quad for small gaps or even between goal posts - it could be low yaw.
If you do split-S & the quad always pitches out of it at 90º (instead of 180), its low yaw.
what happened (visually) if I add too much yaw P?
I was having this problem and out of all the videos I watched this one dove STRAIGHT into the solution right away. Tried it in the simulator and it worked. If it wasn't 60 mph winds outside I would try for real, but in the real world I don't have the problem so bad. But now I know!
Same here. Not a single video discussed this drifting issue and describing the “on rails” feel, captured my exact words and problem. Solution is so obvious in hindsight!
I wish these were longer...this is a great format for newbs that have the same questions but know no one else that flies.
Just... Thank you. Coming from years of flying (NOT crashing!) pricey LOS photo quads, making the switch to FPV racing/ FS has been a challenge at best. Your Trick Series makes it easier, faster and alot more fun to make the transition. Cheers to the crashes as well! Its good to know that its almost normal for us noobs to need a separate backpack full of props and parts per day of flying. Ive gotten it down to a shoebox-ful per day thanks to you guys. Keep it up, much appreciated!

Bloody hell that "be more aggressive" tip was useful. I'm a complete noob and still have huge issues with cornering, but that sentence totally clicked and as soon as I started attacking those sticks more boldly the change in grip was incredible.
This series helps so so much! Im not a beginner but after watching these, it helps me to realize the right way to do tricks because most of the tricks I know are self taught and i might not be doing them the right way.
The “sounds” of how he needs to fly described by Steele at 4:00 is amazing. Hahahaa.

SUPER helpful - on the cornering, but also the info on prop pros & cons. Best part of the video though... was the sound effects the student & teacher exchanged at the end of training. :-)

ummagawd which motors are best for it? based on spec I was thinking of trying Mr. Steele's new brand but I think you use the lumenier. I currently use eMac red bottoms 2300kv.
you want lower KV (2000-2150) for 6in props. My current favorite is the zmx2206-2140kv
well the butter is ordered excited for the build.
Great tips. Visually it feels like driving around turns, but without the ground friction is not. I think about it more like if you were running and juking around the tree, when you change direction you pivot, reposition center of gravity and kick off the new direction. When you try to kick off with the drone it will smooth over already because we're gliding on the air. Great tips. The audible difference of the bigger props was pretty astounding, they sounded so stealthy.

Keep posting the ins and outs, about (new) tricks, products; props, flghtcontollers, esc's, frames, motors camera's and so on. I love it. thumbs up for the haircut LOL I'm glad that you posted this even though it is somewhat intuitive I've been working on taking Corners tighter without losing speed and trying to find the quickest way around and gate where you have to make a 90 degree turn. instead of stopping and changing direction more or less is what i want to prevent aswell as drifting.. great vid makes me wana pull out some old 6 inch two blades now....

Being new to the quad thing. I've learned a lot from your guys videos. Please keep up the outstanding work and please keep doing these instructional videos.
One thing I'd like to see. Is one on Acro vs Stabilization/Horizon mode. What the expectations of each and how to break from using crutch modes. one of the videos you helped someone tune their quad. I believe it was Chad who might of made a comment that most of us don't have a properly flying quad to compare to. Planes are big here in CT. So not much for quads yet. Would love to get a club together, Not sure how to go about it though.

Moving from my Mobula8 HD (with prop guards) which I'm getting pretty confident with to my new Crux35, I'll definitely try to take these advices to heart. I'm sliding on turns. I'd already figured out the throttle to power through it. I just need to control it all better. I'll get there and have a blast doing so.
It is amazing how the Mobula8 feels so damn locked in on the turns. I blame the ducts and drag, and maybe a tad on the great factory PID tune. I honestly can really rail a corner on my Mobula8 without even trying. And now that I think about it, not so easily on my 4s 4" toothpick.
@@mjodr yeah, I'm sure the drag from the ducts continues. It does turn really nicely. I love my little Mob8.

You mentioned your 6inch quad a few times now, amazingly quiet. My 6 inch quad is very quiet too, I use it for dive-bombing buildings and such now. I would LOVE a video discussing the many differences between 5 inch and 6 inch props, including what you all know about the physics and stuff. So it wasn't my imagination when I found my 6 inch triblade quad handling better at lower speeds than my 5 inch? :)

On a qwad steering and thrust is almost everything that matters. So, if u drift, its mostly your thrust is just wrong. Just give thrust und adjust the angle und everthing is fine.
which antennas do you guys prefer to use when your doing tricks and stuff around buildings and other things that can block the signal.

6' butter quad !
I have a question that when I ask it, I never get the same answer.
It’s regarding a 3” 1404 3800kv GepRC Cinerun without the prop guards and with a set of iFlight Camos installed . Just so you know this issue was there before and remained after the stock motor change out.
Simple, what most people would call prop wash (I think). This happens when you fly straight at a medium speed cruise and gently yaw in 180 while descending and then fly back the other direction now 5m lower. During the yaw or if I lower my throttle and descend while in a hover I get the bobbles and wobbles like I was in rough seas on a cork lol .
My question is ..can you tune this out

So what if you can't get a 6inch on your quad? would 4 blades prop help?
depends on what you're after... i'm assuming you want more low end pop... if so then yes.... but only assuming that your motor has enough torque to spin up a 4-blade 5in prop
