hello again sir!thank you so much again for your help.I was able to fix my sun-sun canister filter.I have zero leaks. thank you so much again and god bless you more!
As there’s no chance of getting a replacement o ring for my eheim canister filter any time soon in my neck of the woods, I took a huge leap of faith and followed your advice - fingers crossed all goes well, as I’m a little doubtful that “silicon won’t adhere to the plastic” - in my experience silicon adhere’s to pretty much everything and more. Watch this space and I’ll share the result🤔….
You're right it doesn't stick to plastic. That's the reason it's good for this type of thing. It just acts as a washer and still allows you to open the filter for cleaning. Definitely let me know how this goes for you.
I run an Eheim 2217 on my 4ft tank and (touch wood) it has been running fine for the past 5 years with no major issues other than a broken impellor shaft when cleaning it one day, which I was lucky enough to have a spare for and bought a new one on eBay the next week so I did have another spare when this happened again. It never leaks but I do have it situated in a 10L rectangular bucket just in case it does leak as it and the tank sits on carpet in my lounge room. I have never thought of using silicone on the top cap with the large O ring, but I do have another filter which is a Fluval 206 and I have issues with it sealing so this is something I am going to do the next time I need to clean it out, It only runs the water for my IBC water change supply and it is a nightmare to reprime each time. I am not keen on this 206 filter but it was given to me so it's not a major issue to me as it is not on one of my fish tanks it is outside.
Hey Tim! The O ring seals do get brittle and crack in time. If the part is out of stock this is a good stop gap to keep the filter in use. Thanks for all of your interest in what I do here!
Hey Fishman, in one of your videos I heard you mention the type of acrylic cement you use; what is it called? I live in a small town in Southeast OR, and not even the one Home Depot has Weld-on 3, 4, or 16. I have to order it from Amazon. I am going to order a larger supply of the stuff you use just to make sure I don't run out. Plus, is there a gel form of cement in case of gaps?
I have a leaking canister filter that has water flowing in the top head section where the motor and pump are and also water flowing out of the sides of it. I have a 2017 sunsun 404b pond filter grayish blue colored 75 gallon canister filter. Do you think you could give any possible fixes?
Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to explain how to fix your filter. It's pretty straight forward with O rings but when there is water in with the motor that is more complicated. Sorry
Hi I have a eden 522 that is leaking. If I apply silicone once it drys how can I remove the lid to clean the filter? Maybe it a dumb question but I don't understand how it can be opened. With Vaseline it's easy but silicone is going to be hard. Thxs for your time.
Hey Michael. Silicone actually won't adhere to plastic. When you want to clean the filter just open it and peal off the silicone. After cleaning you will need to reapply it though. If the O ring is still in reasonable shape, you're right about using Vaseline. It's an easy and better way to go. Silicone is for those situations with a deteriorated O ring. Hope that helps clear that up
hello sir!im having problems with my sun-sun canister filter.my question is can I put silicon on the seal for the motor head barrel because it always leaks!what is the silicon your using?i mean is it safe for the fish?can you pls. reply asap coz I really need help on this. I've changed the seal 2 times already.thank you so much and more power to you
I would say off of the top of my head yes, but you would have to send me a picture for me to be sure. My email is fishmanericrussell@gmail.com. The silicone only has to be a nontoxic pure silicone. Any clear pure silicone should do because you are using so little
OK sir thank you!do you recommend using plumbers tape and pvc cement because plumbers tape is way more cheaper?thank you so much for the reply sir. I'll try to send you a picture.but if I didn't send any,it means I solved the problem already!thanks so much to you and I appreciate it.
The picture didn't come through. Silicone is way better than your other choices. It remains flexible and I know it works. Let me know if your solution works though. Thanks for the interest
