It hurts me physically to know that Asura's wrath was done so dirty, since like metal gear rising revangance, people only found out later how amazing that game itself is And i am one of these people who used kage with the asura costume in SFV, which was hype af
I'm just glad that more people are starting to recognize this game. I've been there since its release back in 2012, played it more than just a few times, hands down one of the most emotional games I've ever played.
As soon as the part where the story DLC was compared to OVAs came up, I groaned, "Oh no, they didn't think about how the TV market is outside of Japan." Gamers who are anime fans would have gotten where they were coming from - not necessarily agreed with it, but have gotten the analogy; but non-anime fans would just say WTF about it. 🤦🏻♀️
I would love to see one on Alone in the dark 08. The game goes from being released as a broken survival horror game to being upgraded on the ps3 which was a broken survival horror tech demo with some really interesting physics
SuperButterBuns did a video on this game three years ago that made me appreciate this as a great movie. Flawed planning and execution aside, the style and presentation is top notch.
Thanks for covering this! I enjoyed Asura's Wrath a lot, and it deserved a lot better. I'd be curious if there's any dirt you can dig up on the Goemon franchise that Konami used to produce, and how it flopped in America.
My only exposure to this game was watching the Street Fighter collab DLC fights many moons ago and being very hooked on those because yeah, those were baller af. I then heard about the true ending DLC controversy and felt content at leaving it at that. Maybe I should watch a run of this game, definitely seems my kind of cheese popcorn.
I knew a friend who was such a shill for this game, since it was first showed off the trailer, and over time, I kept seeing the holes starting to form as the game was coming out, but he was like "It's still good, it's still good!". Once the ending hit, and the DLC ending was announced, he stopped talking about it. I saw the birth and death of a hype beast.
Asuras wrath looked so dope back when I first saw it out. Never wouldve thought it was a hard flop either. Feels bad. Good stuff as always Matt thanx for the great content
Talking about CC2's original titles, in 2010 they released Solatorobo: Red the hunter, the predecessor of Fuga and probably the best Nintendo DS game ever. I would love to see a video about it by chance
I'll say, there has never been a game that I regretted playing it late. I've bought Asura's Wrath in the latter part of last year, since it was always a game I wanted to try. But me not knowing what kind of game it was, I've always postponed that purchase. As I typically buy multiple games at once, I played Killer is Dead first (which is also a good game, albeit much less memorable). But once I started, I couldn't put my controller down. It went hard and I loved every second of it, only for me to reach episode 18 and being told I had to cough up 7 bucks to get myself the dlc. I've never in my entire life been this excited to buy dlc, but due to life I had to put it on hold for a couple weeks. But once I got back, it was like no time had passed. This is a game that you HAVE to experience.
Thanks for making this. I've always wondered what happened with this game. Everything I read from or about CyberConnect2 made it sound like development went according to plan. I found this hard to believe, but I'm glad you confirmed it. It's a shame such a phenomenal game was made with intentional holes, and asked players to pay to fill them.
Asura's wrath is the Capcom IP that deserves to come back, expanding on the universe of Asura's wrath and remastering this game for modern consoles as a tribute to not just fans of the original game, but also for fans of Gow who miss the original Gow play style and characters. #BringbacktheWrath
This game deserved better then what it was given, I love this game...even if it's more a movie/anime then a game. But honestly I felt that was ok, because I still had a fucking blast!

Asura's Wrath is my favorite "Movie"...yeaaah if you remove certain bits of the gameplay and animat them and just watch like a movie is very entertaining.
I do remember hearing back in the day that another reason for the DLC was due to scope creep. Basically the final chapters grew so much in scope that they needed more time to bring them up to snuff. I don't know how true this is and I have no idea where I heard it from as it was over 10 years ago now (my god really? I am getting old) but I think it was a somewhat official source.
If I had a nickel for every time the studio behind Tail Concerto was brought in as an external developer for a game from a major IP that ended up on the show, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice!
My friends and I rented the game over a weekend. Although we didn't like the ending issues, we really enjoyed our "Wrath-athon". It was basically binge watching a new kick-ass anime.
Honestly an old coworker was the one who mentioned this game 6o me. I hadn't heard diddly but after doing some research was blown away and in awe. I got it release day and loved every second of it. No doubt the dlc debacle was major ick but I did re-download it from pins classics and all things considered was one of the random ips tjat never made it big but still has a tiny little safe spot in my heart.
Every time Asura does his multi burst punch, I think of Star Platinum yelling out Ora, Ora, Ora. Although I did love the DLC that features Ryu/Evil Ryu and Akuma/Oni battle. 18:33 Maximilian dood cameo
I totes remember my pal cutting school the day Steel Battalion released and buying the RIDICULOUS controller for it and then i NEVER saw him playing it or talking about it and the controller collecting dust forever afterwards.
Thanks for this! Of all the Capcom content you've done in the past, this was the one I was most excited for, especially since Asura's Wrath was ahead of its time for what it wanted to do. Some can say what they will about the horse armor DLC fiasco, but the real ending being locked under DLC and hid the whole thing until you achieved the conditions for the true ending was the scummiest thing Capcom did. It felt like they robbed players of an actual conclusion at the time, unless you paid extra At that point, I decided to see the ending on TH-cam instead out of protest lol
I'm so glad we experienced AW the way we did - buying it after the price drop with the DLC and playing on a big screen for my non-gamer friends. I was exhausted as hell afterwards but it was one of the most memorable experiences we had with a game and we still occasionally talk about it..
It's too bad they couldn't continue the Asura series with 'Asura's Envy', 'Asura's Greed', 'Asura's Sloth', 'Asura's Gluttony', 'Asura's Pride' and 'Asura's Lust'
Once you said power stone, my curiosity was very much peaked…but then all we get our costumes, I was like, “you jerk😅” but then that long pause…i had to laugh. You knew what you did. Well played good sir. 😂👏🏽
i still LOVE this game, it's ending is one of the very few that actually made me emotional, it's sad that even though asura was shown to be in the street fighter universe they haven't put him in a street fighter game(even though ryu and akuma ended up being bosses), i would love to see asura in a street fighter game based of the true ending
This is an example of why I don't love Naughty Dog games, if you're going to make a game into something more akin to a movie, I think it's best to take it to the limit of creativity and take advantage of it actually being a video game. Asura's Wrath is going to be a movie? Make it the biggest, craziest, and most memorable movie that you can! Make it something that film can't really do! God I love this game lol
Asura's wrath was a big inspiration to me, and honestly, kinda the base of my mascot for my youtube channel. I only hope he gets the chance in the future to shine a bright red, like he always should of...

That moment of "he gets QTEs too?!" remains one of my favorite 'oh crap' moments in all of gaming
It brings me lots of joy when Asura's is brought up and everyone comes to appreciate it
RIP Liam O'brien's Throat: The Anime: The Game.
It hurts me physically to know that Asura's wrath was done so dirty, since like metal gear rising revangance, people only found out later how amazing that game itself is
And i am one of these people who used kage with the asura costume in SFV, which was hype af
This game is such an unique masterpiece and over a decade later there is nothing that is quite like this game.
Storm 4 takes everything from asura wrath and perfect it
@@faresfares-ultra lol no
@@faresfares-ultra Storm 4 using anime footage for story mode like powerpoint shi, hell naw don't talk about that game again bruh
I'm just glad that more people are starting to recognize this game. I've been there since its release back in 2012, played it more than just a few times, hands down one of the most emotional games I've ever played.
I only started looking into it because everyone kept comparing FF16's boss battles to Asura's Wrath.
Another entry in the Capcom What Happened Hall of Fame/Shame.
bro. the ending still gives me the chills and makes me cry manly tears. I'll ALWAYS pay for soul
I would love to see one on Alone in the dark 08. The game goes from being released as a broken survival horror game to being upgraded on the ps3 which was a broken survival horror tech demo with some really interesting physics
This channel is one of those that you can binge on, well done, entertaining and funny
I now understand why people called this company "Crapcom" at the time. Those kind of moves with the DLC strategy were absolutely despicable...
SuperButterBuns did a video on this game three years ago that made me appreciate this as a great movie. Flawed planning and execution aside, the style and presentation is top notch.
That pregnant pause after "Street Fighter V' is beautiful. Oh Capcom...
Thanks for covering this! I enjoyed Asura's Wrath a lot, and it deserved a lot better. I'd be curious if there's any dirt you can dig up on the Goemon franchise that Konami used to produce, and how it flopped in America.
really wish it got a port to modern systems, it def deserves a second chance
Truly a moment in time
Asuras wrath looked so dope back when I first saw it out. Never wouldve thought it was a hard flop either. Feels bad. Good stuff as always Matt thanx for the great content
I remember this game. As angry as I was about the ending behind a paywall, I don't recall seeing it since so I'm glad lessons were learned.
It's on the Xbox store
Capcom being Cashcom with the endings aside, this was a great game
We need an Asuras Wrath Remake
The worst thing is those DLCs will be lost when the servers shut down
not unless you jailbreak ur PS3 or Xbox 360, can easily get it nowadays as it's been dumped already on the webz
They're still in the Xbox store.
Bought this like 7 years ago and every now and then I like to thrown it on and try to s rank the missions
_"Twelve thousand years, AND NOTHING HAS CHAAAAAAANGED!!!!!"_
Finally played this game and I’m blown away by it. I absolutely love the insanity. You guys killed it with this recommendation again
Talking about CC2's original titles, in 2010 they released Solatorobo: Red the hunter, the predecessor of Fuga and probably the best Nintendo DS game ever. I would love to see a video about it by chance
The episode I didn't know I wanted. Every time I think I'm out you pull me back in.
The joke where Asura's Wrath is being advertised on that Dragon Ball Multiverse webcomic is the most Matt joke ever and I love it.
The soudtrack sync with gameplay and qte is one of the most brillant execution of qte ever made
I will never forgive you FOR MAKING MY DAUGHTER CRY
Very big W for the choices of music for the video. 👍🏽
I remember playing and enjoying this game, thought it was a bit short. I never realized there was further dlc after the VERY abrupt ending.
Lord I am so happy those falling segments like the one at 3:42 fell outta style they used to be in EVERYTHING
18:01 A couple of years ago Cyber Connect said on their youtube channel and said they wouldn't mind remastering the game due to how highly requested it was in North America and Europe. But, that the decision was up to Capcom. Here' the link if any of you are curious th-cam.com/video/XoxOc-rW-R0/w-d-xo.html
Asura's Wrath is one of my Favorite Anime of all time tho i thought it was weird when button proms would appear
The game that was just too insane for general audiences.
Glad to see What Happened on Asura's Wrath, I remember asking for it in one of Mattt's What happun videos.
Man, I'd really like a remake of this game, maybe with some better gameplay to match the greatness of the story. Hell, I'd even take a port.
That last bit had me rolling! Excellent as always, Mat!!
Asura wrath was really awesome and tons of fun
Omg I was waiting for the episode!
One of the most badass games of all time happened, that's what.
*Anime
Thank u Matt been requested this for 2 years
I’ve always wanted to play this, I hope they re release it at some point.
you can play it right now on playstation 4/5 and modern Xboxes
I still play this game to this day
Man, those styles sure can be of the time
Thank you so much for the FUGA shout out of CC2. I cant wait for the sequel FUGA 2 coming this year ^^.
Oh shit ive been WAITING for this one for a long time. Asuras wrath is one of my favorite games of all time
Every time Asura does his multi burst punch, I think of Star Platinum yelling out Ora, Ora, Ora.
Although I did love the DLC that features Ryu/Evil Ryu and Akuma/Oni battle.
18:33 Maximilian dood cameo
Thx for this great content 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 loved this one on the ps3…
Much love from Germany 🙏🏻🫡
If only this game didn't hide it's true ending behind DLC!
The DLC is super cheap now.
I totes remember my pal cutting school the day Steel Battalion released and buying the RIDICULOUS controller for it and then i NEVER saw him playing it or talking about it and the controller collecting dust forever afterwards.
Asuras Wrath is one of the all time great video game stories
Thanks for this! Of all the Capcom content you've done in the past, this was the one I was most excited for, especially since Asura's Wrath was ahead of its time for what it wanted to do. Some can say what they will about the horse armor DLC fiasco, but the real ending being locked under DLC and hid the whole thing until you achieved the conditions for the true ending was the scummiest thing Capcom did. It felt like they robbed players of an actual conclusion at the time, unless you paid extra
At that point, I decided to see the ending on TH-cam instead out of protest lol
Nothing but a great original game happened!
Last one sounds….. interesting
@@michaelcastillo619 Imagine what he can do with all those hands...
Good lord, that animation quality is God tier tho
