So he went over the top with it and...failed.

You know he started off with good intentions. I can see him taking little bits from all the other jokers but his performance takes a dive when he tries to impart his own ideas in to the roll. I think it was an interesting idea to try to turn the Joker into basically like a trap-style hip hop artist, who loves basically being a pimp, objectifying women and of course also enjoys the allure of making money. The problem is this completely flies in the face of the Joker and his motivations at least in most iterations of the character. Yes, the Joker is the "clown prince of crime" but he doesn't commit crimes for financial gain so much as he enjoys being an agent of chaos. Heath Ledger's Joker literally burned a pile of crime money in front of gangsters who called him insane for doing so -- the idea he'd be driving around in a Lamborghini that's suped with underglow out is laughably ridiculous.

I remember finishing this movie the first time and kind of liking Leto's portrayal. In hindsight, I don't know wtf I was thinking and I was probably drinking too much at the time. I think I really, really wanted to like this version of the Joker. It was a different take on an iconic character we had seen multiple variations of and I thought a new take would be a breath of fresh air Sometimes when I really want something to be good it can delude my opinion in a positive or negative fashion

Both actors were almost the same Joker, only at different points in his life. Either actor could have done justice to the other joker movie (hope that makes sense). To be fair though, although Leto wasn't great, a lot it was likely directing and writing flops to blame as well.

I haven't seen Suicide Squad but i see from this video that the Leto Joker wasnt good. But saying what you just said is a huge underestimate. He did a phenomenal job in requiem for a dream, Mr. Nobody and Texas buyers club. The commitment he takes to make the role work is unbelievable. He gained loads of weight for Chapter 27, he lost loads of weight for Texas Buyers Club to play a transvestite with AIDS. Moreover, Joker is a very difficult role to play. There have been quite a few actors playing this role, and every one of them obviously wants to make it unique, and you can only do so much playing the same character . Its just that kind of a role, so bashing on someone for not doing a great joker is kinda crazy. And if i got the right idea from the comment section the movie itself wasn't that great, so maybe in a different script he would do much better, who knows.

I think it was an interesting idea to try to turn the Joker into basically like a trap-style hip hop artist, who loves basically being a pimp, objectifying women and of course also enjoys the allure of making money. The problem is this completely flies in the face of the Joker and his motivations at least in most iterations of the character. Yes, the Joker is the "clown prince of crime" but he doesn't commit crimes for financial gain so much as he enjoys being an agent of chaos. Heath Ledger's Joker literally burned a pile of crime money in front of gangsters who called him insane for doing so -- the idea he'd be driving around in a Lamborghini that's suped with underglow out is laughably ridiculous.

I haven't seen Suicide Squad but i see from this video that the Leto Joker wasnt good. But saying what you just said is a huge underestimate. He did a phenomenal job in requiem for a dream, Mr. Nobody and Texas buyers club. The commitment he takes to make the role work is unbelievable. He gained loads of weight for Chapter 27, he lost loads of weight for Texas Buyers Club to play a transvestite with AIDS. Moreover, Joker is a very difficult role to play. There have been quite a few actors playing this role, and every one of them obviously wants to make it unique, and you can only do so much playing the same character . Its just that kind of a role, so bashing on someone for not doing a great joker is kinda crazy. And if i got the right idea from the comment section the movie itself wasn't that great, so maybe in a different script he would do much better, who knows.

My friend works at an airport. She just politely asked him for a pic/selfie. She said he’s an asshole. He has an assistant that speaks on his behalf and doesn’t even acknowledge any fans. I’ve also heard of other fans saying he’s a dick.

His whole point in the movie was to show how manipulative he was. Harley was smart, imagine a charming, sweet talking but yet manipulative Joker.

Edit: now that I think about it, he is arguably the best looking actor for the Joker, if they made his design more niche, like a suit and made him less edgy he might have been "the Joker" for the female audience.

@@ObliteratedZane668 haha what the hell no it wasn't compare it to the other Jokers they had hour or more of screen time and a better script and they were the central characters in the story do you people not know that a character needs all these things to work imagine if Heath worked in Suicide Squad he would have suffered the same fate as Jared's Joker because hell even the dialogue was changed so many scenes were edited and Jared didn't really get much say in during this it's pretty damn obvious he didn't get an actual chance
I think people don't like his joker for two reason 1 because they don't understand that he's probably not playing the joker but someone who thinks their the joker but mostly because they don't like Jared Leto.
While i agree with you i don't think the blame should be put all on Jared Leto, he has his lines and directors told him how to act. Of course he still did all of these things but he did them because he thought that it matched what he was told this character should be.
