It has feeling to it. My daughter had me watch her play and it's such a sad story IMO but the music stuck with me, it's beautiful.

this song plays during one of the final bosses, and it's. it's heartbreaking, you are battling a suffering creature, something so similar to yourself, and it's not clear wether it's being forced against its will to fight and is trying to stop or it's genuinely in that much agony that the moment its free it just. urgh, I wish I could explain, but spoilers. by the end of the fight your not even fighting a real boss your just putting this poor creature that is clearly so very tired and broken out of it's misery
hollow knight is really fucking tragic when it wants to be and I think this is one of the most hard hitting things in the game

I think I need to play this game to appreciate the soundtrack even more, it sounds so fitting

@@DivergentReactions oh definetly! the soundtrack is one of my favorites of any game, I personally love it. hollow knight is personally my favorite game ever (sharing the spot of #1 with the video game gris) and I couldn't praise it enough. I don't wanna overhype it, I think that steals the magic of a game. and it's definitely not for everyone, it's known for its hard and unforgiving boss fights (it's often compared to dark souls). but I myself beat it (after a billion attempts at each boss) and I'm a shitty gamer so it's possible! I just think the whole experience is worth it for exploring this beautiful hand drawn world with emotional music and a mystery that is only ever told through very vague hints. it has a big story but you'd never figure it out just playing it regularly. but I love that about it, it makes it so fun trying to piece together everything

Love that when it suddenly goes calm and silent at the end you can feel the realisation of the knight about what happened and the sadness felt afterwards.

Finally someone new listening to the Hollow Knight soundtrack. The entire game is just as high quality, I recommend going through all of the tracks but you don't have to of course. Other more popular pieces from this game are Hornet, Mantis Lords, and City of Tears.

Thanks for the suggestions! Maybe I need to play this all the way through to unlock the potential of the music!

@@DivergentReactions Absolutely! Every piece hits close by itself but when experienced in-game, it unlocks a whole new level of emotionality. Sealed Vessel for example is one of those pieces that, after playing, gives me consistent goosebumps and a vague feeling of depression for a few minutes afterwards. The game is also incredibly comfortable from a gameplay standpoint (provided that you like exploring, it involves so much running around and backtracking that some people get annoyed by it) and is incredibly beautiful overall with a story that may or may not be obvious. One of the best games ever made in my opinion so I'm glad you consider playing it! The only piece in the soundtrack (Gods & Nightames is the DLC track album, just so you're aware) that does not actually play at any point in the game is Pale Court. It's something to listen to after experiencing the whole game (or just the soundtrack but again, the playing experience is much better) to fully let it sink in.
Sorry this comment got long, I'm just very excited about this game and everything related to it lol.

i havent finished watching, but this song carries so much more weight and meaning if you know the story behind it, and are playing the final fight after the entire game. even through fight, the music narrates whats happening, hand midway the fight and the character gets moore distorted and consumed... in a tragic maner and u cant help but feel empathy and sad for him... truly beautiful...
edit: well i guess people sad that already lol.

@@DivergentReactions i dont know what happened to my brain midway through that comment, but I think i got the point across ahah
I will never not recommend this game, as to me, its just one of those games that transcends the videogame status and feels like a playable piece of art on every level. It is a bit challenging tho 😅
Recommendations from HK ost? For me is Dirtmouth, Hollow Knight and City of Tears.
Dirtmouth is your first contact with the game, its also the closest you get to your home in the game, your point of reference. So u came back to it various times during the game, and everytime it almost feels different, or u can understand it better because of how much u went through and learned about the world in the meantime. It gives me a sense of painful and nostalgic familiarity, the feeling of a broken home that is nonetheless your home. A sense of comfort in its solitude.
A sense of safety stained with sadness and tragedy

When searching for words to describe the game, I tended to have the same trouble you had around 3:40.
What I settled on is somber. It's dim, not dark. It's somber, but not depressing or dreary.
Almost like a dull form of bittersweet. It's incredibly interesting.
And as someone neurodivergent with an aversion to overly negative story elements, that pleasantly somber atmosphere really helped me expand my comfort zone.
That percussive instrument you mentioned sounds to me like bells.
And to put into perspective a little bit just how jarring that second half is in the game... This is STILL a boss fight.
You are fighting the Final Boss. and THAT starts playing halfway through the fight.
"This is still a boss fight... ...right?"
