Derek, I would just like to say, you are a true sportsman. You knew you were having car issues and pulled off, apologise to another driver even though it wasn't your fault. You are a very humble man and I thoroughly enjoy your video's. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

I used to race back in the early 70s, you held your own with the Pros and those caution restart jumps you got are some of the finest examples of strategic driving I've ever seen, well done!

Track official. I pulled ahead and cut that car off because he was not listening to racing command he was supposed to drop in position.

I was so sorry to hear the news of your recent break-in. The fact that somebody out there would do that to such a kind family as yours is unbelievable. @Freiherr Dinckelacker I’m from the south and I can tell you my parents had their farm broken into several times recently. It is all the tweakers. It’s really a National problem but def bad down south.
People,in general, suck.
That's why I have 7 security cameras hooked to a DVR in my shop and 7 on the 1 in my house and with my 7 kids my brother and sister living on the first 80 acres I bought next to my parents and all them have security cameras nobody gets on our property without being seen by a camera and 1 gets good tag shots along the driveway we just keep picking up small properties around us as they come up for sale nobody wants land near ours they can't spray chemicals within a quarter mile because our beehives are registered
@Freiherr Dinckelacker our gardens and fruit trees have really shown a big production increase since getting the bees established and honey is selling good too

Did Derek have to qualify for starting position by lap times or do they do it a different way?

@@mattmalone524 yes... they do qualifying heats before the race for pole position.
@@mattmalone524 My guess is by time. He said he wasn't going to push it for the qualifying laps which means he was going to be placed middle of the pack on startup instead of pushing it hard to get closer to the front of the pack on startup.
Pro drivers? Looked mostly like a buncha hacks to me lol.
Absolutely a class act just clearing off the track knowing your car was hurt, true sportsmanship!! That says a lot about a a guy....nothing but respect for you, proud to be a part of your community!

I wouldn't call the race a failure 13th ain't bad for being taken out like he was and developing issues with it running probably from the hits and getting dumped he made a good call getting out of the way of the cars that had a chance to win instead of staying out and wrecking 1 or getting in the way costing them positions it was a win with the hand he was dealt
I’ve had that same plastic piece in the heater core lines break, it leaks onto cylinder #7 and creates a misfire. My guess is you were on 7 cylinders

I had to double check if he was giving it the go before the green light because of the way he just drove by several cars at the restarts. No, just good reaction times and went only when the light was green. Crazy, like he was racing with a bunch of grandmas out there.

You could just see it in those Boy's faces at the end of the video. Sure they felt they worked hard on that car and wanted a win for the old Man. Just gonna guess here, but next race, they will want to do more than just paint. Nice job, Derick, you drove a great race.

I grew up watching stock cars race at this track when I was about 10. It’s amazing back then how large it all felt but seeing it now you realize how small of an oval it is. You hung in there with the best. Awesome thing for the kids to see.
Derek, you drove the wheels of that thing and raced clean. Also, Props to Jackstand Jimmy helping our boy out!!! I feel like many races in the past Cleat and the crew skip right past Derek. It was nice to see.

i remember many years ago i went through a robbery at home and personal items and various other items were stolen and it really affected me ,wasnt the material things it was just the the fact someone stole from me ,im someone if i have a dollar ill give a stranger in need 99 cents ,i hope that makes sense Derek,your channel brings some much joy to so many keep up the great work

@@christopherweise438 Sweet!. We got an island in the river called Peche island and it's an Eagle sanctuary. Right next to Belle isle where Indy races.
@@aspalovin - Cool. I almost went to a race at Belle Isle once (i'm in Wisconsin).
I'm the superintendent at the course, and it was early in the morning with no golfers around to bother it. Even the crows harassing it didn't phase it. God those things are big in person.

My brother raced at a 1/4 mile paved track in Columbus Wisconsin for ten years back in the 90s. Of course I just watched from the stands, watching the in-car video is great. This brings back a lot of memories. If you aren't trading paint you are not in the mix, great driving, great video!

Fantastic driving. This was a much cleaner race with some very good drivers. Finishing at "Lucky 13" is better than last. Hopefully you can get the car fixed up and running good for Indy. Tell the boys the paint job is looking crisp and they did a great job. Leaving the track not only is good sportsmanship but also safer you as well. Looking forward to seeing you in Indy.
Actually, he did finish last, as far as what cars were left, but technically, he did finish 13th, as far as the other cars dropping out or being wrecked or broken down and out lol. I've only seen bits and PC's from other drivers or folks that recorded and posted bits, but from what I seen, I want yo be setting in the bleachers for the next race. Have a blessed day, and didn't mean nothing by it by the comment I just made. Just I heard cleatus talking about there were only 12 cars left in the race when Derrick pulled out.

let me tell you - you a really good racer! great restarts out of the gate.. you should try asphalt or dirt racing. Youd be good at it. I've run enduro series racing on dirt and its a blast!!! 100- 200 laps of fun if you can stay out of trouble..
