  • Was Don Henley the main voice behind the Eagle's success? Maybe not in the beginning but as the Eagles evolved into main stream rock and roll It was Don's voice that helped carry the band to the top of the rock charts. Become a Channel Member: th-cam.com/users/riverdocsjoin

Don didn't take the Eagles higher, they did it all together, that was wonderfull. But for me it was especially Randy who took the Eagles to a higher level with his unforgettable voice and Don F. with his guitar.

There's no denying Don's amazing voice. My wife and I saw the History of the Eagles Tour with Bernie Leadon and Glen Frey was still alive - amazing. My wife was like "Don Henley sounds incredible!" Everyone in that band were amazing talents in their own right, but Don was and is an amazing vocalist.

No no, before 1:40 Walsh and Felder they were definitely a “good” band, but an average country , country-rock band. Walsh and Felder cranked their music up a bit and their lead guitar duels really turned it up a notch. Walsh/Felder made them who they became. Henley does have an awesome range in his voice. Frey an average voice mostly for ballads but not gutsy enough for rock. All in all the harmonies together also made them great. Unfortunately Henley and Frey’s narcissistic greed ruined the band. They need Felder & Walsh together again. Doubtful but its what fans demand. Good luck.

Henley and the way he sings pitch perfect .The way he puts sighs and enunciates certain phrases and the heart felt tone of his voice not really many singers can match all of his qualities together .He has a rare combination of god given gifts.I say he is the best male rock singer and drummer in the last 50 years even better than Phil Collins and that guy is a great talent.I seen both of them live in concert and Henley always leaves me amazed.
Paul McCartney is also a great live .I still say Henley style is the best consistently .I just attended an Eagles concert 2022 for 4th time in my life and once again even without Frey this time they were beyond excellent. My 2 sons with me and my youngest 27 years old was completely blown away by how talented they were as musicians and vocalist. I really enjoyed watching him fall in love with the Eagles sound just like I did when I was young.
Don Henley will always be the gas in that amazing engine.

    At 58,
I grew up with the eagles. my personal favorite period was while Randy Meisner was in the band. “Take it to the limit” was all Randy! and at lead vocals non the less. Henley and Frey nowhere to be found picking up any piece of lead on that track. For me it was Randy’s harmonizing with Frey and Henley that sealed the deal with me. All versions of the band are great but the years with Randy are my favorite years.🎶

He is definitely one of my favorite singers period! Even Frey's songs would never have been such classics, without Henley & Meisner's part in the band's world-class back up harmonies. If you like drummers who are talented singers; and you haven't seen it yet, I bet you & your sons would enjoy "Journey Through Time", from Neil Schon. He got Greg Rollie, & did a lot of the earlier Journey tunes. He has Marco Mendoza on bass, & Deen Castronovo, who kills the drums & somehow still does an excellent job on the Steve Perry vocal parts.

They worked for an auto parts store and my grandfather used to go with them to nascar races. In my head I have my own little rivalry with don. When I was a kid, I was a drummer and singer and everyone used to say my voice was just like his. I still sing, but I haven’t quite overtaken him yet. More of a guitar player anyway. Tbh, my sister is great friends with whiskey Myers and I’m borderline hoping on a Steve gains kinda situation lol I know you’ve got to be somewhat in my vicinity by the way you speak and the specific music you’re really into, I just know it. I love Don Henley's music even though he appears to be a pain the backside for those who work with him. His lyrics are smart and articulate social commentary. If Glen Frey was in the Eagles without Don Henley, the Eagles would have been like Poco with a few hits and doing summer shows with other 70's bands but Don Henley's great songwriting and gritty singing along with the guitar abilities of Don Felder made them rock superstars soaring into selling out arenas for decades.

Yeah, the eagles were such a great band. Their early country-bluegrass phase is solid and they produced such great songs during that period.
After that they produced some of the most iconic and well-written classic songs of all-time. I mostly admire Don Felder but Don Henley's is undeniably a great and iconic singer and a really steady drummer. However, I dont really appreciate some of his personality factors but that's a personal opinion of mine. The classic line up of the eagles made everyone in the band play the best out of them. The Walsh-Felder duo is an absolute classic and Henley's vocals are admirable in the hotel California album. Such a great album, man. They really produced some awesome music

It's such a shame that the eagles block their music on youtube and stuff like this, because in this way they make it less accessible to the masses. Lastly, As a suggestion, I think you should make a video dedicated to the late great Greg Allman (as you've made perfect videos for Duane and Dickey Betts). There's no denying Hotel California is their greatest album but it wouldn't have it's diversity without those less famous tracks.
It's like Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album with all the artists getting a little space on the same record.
For Eagle's earlier cuts Witchy Woman, Desperado, Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling rate by my standards as good as anything off of Hotel California.
I think their later record after Hotel California was their worst! I refer to it as The Long Road to the bottom of my record collection.
Dirty Laundry and other solo stuff was seriously over played on the radio and I never bought a single solo album of his.
Another group with an all star cast was Styx. Their lead singer has an inflated ego like Henley's. There would be no Styx without Tommy Shaw and James Young for me.
Fleetwood Mac was sub par without all of them too. You can't single out a single ingredient in a cake mix either. You use more of this and less of that but anything missing spoils the cake.

Frey’s voice and all the harmonies. But it was Felder’s guitar that took the Eagles into the big time.
Witchy Woman and a number of other songs would never done as well with out Felder.
In fact Hotel California is due to Felder. It set the sound to the point anyone could have sung it to a hit. Victim of Love was all Felder.
The day Henley removed Felder was the day the Eagles became irrelevant.
Just look at their last album. Wasted time.
Felder did not get much support but all of his solo efforts are better.
