I practice underwater swims all the time. I would suggest learning it sooner then later. Start at a pool that has a lap lane that is shallow. Don't overdue yourself...if you need air...simply stand up. Don't go all out, with time and technique will be your best friend. You'll find yourself gliding underwater with fewer pulls and kicks to get to the other end. Also practice your treading, especially the eggbeater kick.
I would add getting used to dive fins to strengthen your ankles. Also get a 50lbs ruck and mix in hill repeats and light running with that sucker on. Legs are the weak spot for most. Get those shins used to the abuse they’ll get.

I can swim a 500 in 5-6 minutes and have no problem with pushups and situps but it's the running I really need to improve on before even thinking about attempting the training. I ran the 1.5 mile run at navy bootcamp last month in 11 minutes so definitely hope to work on running more even if I don't end up switching over to spec ops in the near future

How would you say I could get better at swimming longer distances, with shorter times and with different form? I’m not the greatest swimmer currently, never swam 500 yards and don’t know how to do the CSS. I’m a junior in HS right now and want to possibly go for SWCC as I have great interest in it. And do they teach everyone trying for Special Warfare how to do the CSS before giving them the PST? Thanks!
Yes, the way they determine your physical readiness is by looking at all your scores as a whole. If your runs and swims are in the 9:00’s then you’re doing pretty good. Get as close to the optimum scores in the video but by no means is it required to hit those exact scores to get offered a contract. Some of the guys who have been getting contracts that I knew when I worked out at the NSW tank in Little Creek VA we’re getting scores that looked like this: 500 yard swim - 9:00 Push ups - 80 Sit ups - 80 Pull ups - 15 1.5 mile run - 9:30 Always seek to improve your scores but yes that’s in the ballpark
There are automatic scores that will give you a contract regardless if everyone else got the same score these are auto qualifiers. 9:30 swim 75 pushups 75 sit-ups 15 pull-ups 9:30 run
I hope someone can answer this 1 can u do 50 push ups rest and do another 50 or do you need to do it in 1 time 2 i have no swimming pool and i dont have the momey to sign up for swimlessens etc does someone have some advice
Yes you can do 50 push ups REST IN THE UP POSITION then do the next 50 or cut them into even lower but make sure you don’t go all the way down. Whenever it’s hot (summer) go to your local pool and learn the CSS
Not even american, just someone interested in knowing how fit the special forces are, turns out I can do push up, sit up and pull up more than what they suggested to be competitive (not surprising since im a calisthenics junkies). The thing where I fall short than them is swimming (i don't know how to swim at all LMFAO) and the 1:5 mile run (9 minutes) Who would've thought that British SAS selection is tougher than the Navy Seal screening test huh? However, I don't think that they're nowhere near the weaponry and technology that the NAVY SEAL has (or any other American special forces in that matter)
Its not a competition but seals have to go through hell week... thats 5 and a half days of 5 hours sleep total with 20 hours of nonstop working out every day. 1000s of push ups and sittups and miles of runs and swims...
This is the SCREENING. After this is the real training. You need to be able to run 4 miles at 7 min pace, swim 2 miles in 70 mins with fins, log PT, boat PT, etc. 70% fail BUD/S
No. They don’t. But the PST is just the beginning so the supervision is limited. Sure, you can do half-ass pushups. But you’re only cheating yourself. Your scores are expected to improve every PST after you get your contract. If they don’t improve, they better be auto-qual scores. Those who do half-ass anything will struggle when they get to the real thing under proper supervision.
Lol I can do this at 42 without training at all. In fact I can do the optimum standard right now and I don’t train. That said what makes a SEAL impressive has less to do with the physical and more to do with the mental. I’ve known Seals and they are impressive humans.
Dude I recommend every night before bed to do the minimum push up and sit up requirements trust me it helps. I’m able to do about 80 pushups and I’m only 14, 5’2, skinny and I still can do it. So can you!
