I took the Sunday off to relax a bit but now I'm back with BTS.
When I started this video, I really didn't expect there would be so many references and little details, I loved the care that was put into every little aspect of the MV.
It's really moving and heartbreaking, I really wish the best for all the families involved, and I hope they will manage to get some closure in the future.

"I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?.
Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things.
The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve

I truly hope he does not mind me passing on his public comment - but this best shows the power of BTS message.
The worst thing about the disaster - the captain and crew fled the ship in the morning 9.35 - the ferry did not sink until the night - they left the warning to "not move and stay still" playing on a loop through the ship. Only the children that disobeyed the warning survived. The others drowned as they were so ingrained to listen to authority. The civilian boats that attempted to rescue people were stopped by the coast guard as people would discover the boat was illegally overloaded.
Parents on the shore were receiving desperate calls and texts from their children begging for help. And the coastguard did nothing. The only rescue the coastguard made that day was the captain and crew... The people that got rescued were rescued by fishing vessels that got there first before they were stopped...3 years the ferry lay at the bottom as the Govt would not raise it for fear of discovering the truth.... They found video footage taken on mobile phones that were recovered of children wishing their families goodbye. One of the civilian rescue divers later committed su!cide after having to recover so many childrens bodies knowing that he could have saved them but was forcibly stopped.
As a parent I could not comprehend having to live through such a thing. Horrific that your own goverment would perpetrate and then cover up such a incident... jailing dissenters for protesting. It was proven that there were high officials with financial interests in the ferry. The president colluded with them to bury the truth and hamper investigations... 10000 people in the public eye (reporters, artists, etc) put on a Govt blacklist for speaking about it.
BTS went and paid respects to the parents of the victims in 2014 when the tragedy occured. No Cameras - No fanfair - just doing what was right...They also donated approx $100,000 (that year they only earnt $300,000 - they gave 1/3 of their earnings) to help the parents in their fight for justice.... We only found out about the donation years later as one of the parents was sick of all the hatred BTS was always getting and wanted others to know what decent and good people they are.
The MV, The album cover, The choreography all relate back to the Sewol. But the song itself is about missing anyone you love and are separated from. They have since been singing Spring Day during the panademic as the world is now longing for a spring day. Spring Day has never left the music charts, to this day it is still in the top 100 charts.... 7 years later and this song still speaks to people everywhere.
Sorry this is so long - but I really wanted to pass his comment and information to you relating to your Spring Day reaction video.... with posting your reaction you have helped keep the memory of Sewol alive and maybe others who do not know of it will learn of the tragedy. I teared up again while reading all this, thank you so much for sharing this message and all the info. I cant even comprehend how hard it must have been for the survivors, feeling guilty simply for being alive. Im so glad that BTS was there to help this guy and all these people, make them understand that its not their fault and to keep alive the memory of all the passed friends. Im so so proud of being part of this family, im so proud of them and of all the people who managed to overcome their fears, depression and negative thoughts thanks to them.

YES!! THANK YOU!!! While the MV is about the tragedy, BTS never really said the song is about the ferry incident. They just said that it's about a sad incident and its about longing for those you miss. People need to stop saying the song was written about the incident. The song can be interpreted SO many different ways. This song came out almost THREE YEARS AFTER THE INCIDENT! Why would BTS wait THAT long for a tribute song?

@@johnnyblaze1098 BTS waited bcz the government was blacklisting the artists who openly supported the victim families. Later it was revelaed by victim's family members that BTS visited them in secret in 2014. Also what jin said is spring day is about a sad event and also about longing. BTS has never rejected the questions abt whether the song is connected to sewol tragedy. The song lyrics may not be written in connection with the tragedy but the MV, there are so many references which can't be coincidence.
I think the fact that the Korean GP and ARMYs have always considered this to be about the Sewol Ferry is why the symbolism is massively accepted. There is a reason she's never left the Melon chart. It's a national treasure.
I think Spring Day is still charting on the Top 100 music chart in Korea. It has continuously been on the Top 100 charts for the last 6 years. It's the longest charting song in Korean history.

Spring Day is something RM in particular and BTS can point to and say I achieved many things but here I comforted a nation.

I think that BTS will forever be my favorite artist for this precise reason: they have incredible talents and strengths, and they devote them to things that really matter. I see a lot of artists all over the world writing very unoriginal music (so much of American pop music is about sex, drugs, money, and breakups that I'm just exhausted by it), and of course there's nothing wrong with something simple or something not meant to be meaningful and I enjoy my fair share of sweet love songs, but it means so much to me that BTS writes things like this. I lost my grandma at a young age, and then my grandfather a year later, and I didn't really know how to process their deaths. Spring Day comforted me and gave me closure, and allowed me to think about them and smile instead of cry.
The story of Spring Day always makes me sob, but it just means that much more that we got this song. It was such a brave step for BTS to take, because, as you said, they risked a lot. I'm confident that the release of Spring Day must have put them on that government blacklist, if someone like the director of Snowpiercer was there (who was obviously making a huge social statement, but not one as directly targeted to Sewol). This song is not just a comfort to me, but it reminds me how lucky I am as a fan that I have an artist like this who is such a positive influence, and it reminds me to always work towards social change and never lay back and accept injustice. Spring Day is such an important song.

Spring day is best kpop song ...and is still charting(after 6yrs of release) on Korean charts ....and is most streamed , longest charted , most liked and have most unique listeners on korea's biggest streaming platform(Melon)

@@lunapigeon I always think that the tone of the song is set at the very beginning by Jhope's voice. It is not often he sings the opening lines, but he conveys the sadness so well.
You are the first reactor I’ve seen react to this. I’m new enough that I didn’t even know it existed. I cried along with you, and I’m sure many others. I remember when this happened, but didn’t know all these details. I can’t thank you enough for doing this. And I agree. This reaction needs to stand alone. It will be a while before I get over this. I can’t stop thinking about the kids and those who love them who were begging for their lives to be saved. One of the saddest and most maddening things I’ve ever seen.
I hope you will continue to watch Suga’s Suchwita with the BTS MEMBERS. All have been on the show now, except V. I’m sure he will be on soon after he releases his first solo song, like the others.

she is not (edited, left out 'not' in this reply the 1st time, hahaha! ) the only one who reacted to this explanation video. many viewers did watch the explanation video and felt it was really good. there are a few other videos on TH-cam explaining the potential meanings behind the song but this one made by the Italian army is the best of all IMO. BTW Luna is good as usual in her reaction videos.
I’ve actually seen a lot of reactors I’ve seen react to this. But I love her heart and how much she cares. You can tell she has a lot of compassion for people and that’s rare to see these days.

It's a song that I like on a spring day
It's hard not to cry....so emotional...I'm always impressed, BTS are very precious. When I first saw the explanation video, I was out of my mind all day...
italian army did great for making such a full-length video. while italian army tried to explain how sewol tragedy implied on spring day music video, the other explanation video was portraying more about the music video itself. kind of explaining what every second of the music video inspired of. both explaining video were great. I have great experience on watching the italian version, gives me a lot more insight of the tragedy (and I cry along with you🤧)
oh ya, I got other points which hasn't explained there, the first part when RM sings, there's abandoned suitcases and clothes in the train, it said that it was represent all the students who went on the field trip with all their belongings but never came back. the other point is RM was going through all the place in the music video which represent the survival who fight for their right and also how BTS would fight over prejudices just like the man on snowpiercer movie who went all the way toward the "front" train.
there's a lyrics saying "snowflakes are falling" was representing when they're finally stepped out of the train just like on the movie snowpiercer itself. The members represent that they're out of the oppressive system.
At the ending of the music video, the tone was changed to warm represent that spring day has come. and at the very end Jimin hang the shoes on the three, there's a culture where hang shoes on the three were representing commemoration of someone's death and the other culture was to represent political resistance

This song hit me so hard that I couldn’t listen to it for a long time. I mean, I haven’t known it that long, I still have to check to see if I’m strong in the moment., but for my preservation, I had to back away from watching videos from the students last footage, and to stop reading the lyrics. I appreciate each person who shares this grief with the families.
I feel like BTS are risking their career with the way they talk about their government and politics sometimes in some of their songs, like they have other song called am i wrong which is also about politics and they even had the guts to perform it live on their comeback stages.
This is what makes them such amazing and respectable artists, im so proud of being a part of this and have them as inspiration. I will totally check out that song too

I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean that learning about the sinking of the Sewol ferry wouldn’t be enough?
This probably just has a lot to do with age. Most people I know (for background, I grew up in East Asia and the South Pacific, but live now in the USA) are familiar with the tragedy. It was all over the news, and since South Korea is allies with the USA, the impeachment and arrest of their president was also common knowledge in the USA. Most people who were at least teenagers when it happened, probably know about it.

With respect, I tell you there are English language re-tellings of the Sewol ferry tragedy. It is counted among the worst cases of loss of life at sea. One story even included the political fallout. I don’t know, though, if people generally follow this information.
We need reminders to people who don’t read “tragedy lists”. You can mention special people to remember on social media. You can be a part of making sure that people remember

Jin confirmed in an interview with Esquire in late 2020 that the Spring Day MV is about the Sewol ferry tragedy, so it has been confirmed. They even did an award show performance of the song in 2017 and had the stage set up to look like they were on the bottom of the ocean, like the poor victims of the tragedy. They did everything they could to show their support for the families of the victims except flat out state that that's what they were doing. And they all risked their entire careers to do it.

I watched them almost as soon as i finished filming the video. I actually watched them together with my parents and i don’t think i have cried this much in a long time. Im so proud of bts as artists and as people and it gives a ray of hope to know that this song still stands strong ❤️🩹🎗️

I remember being in Korea when this happened and how shocked I was at the way it was reported in the media. A couple of years later I was again on holiday in Korea and remember as clearly as if it was just yesterday standing by the road side in Seoul watching the parents and family members walk in the pouring rain, still seeking justice. I cried so hard that day - I felt so useless. There was nothing I could do to relieve their heartache. It stays with me to this day and every time I hear spring day it brings those images and feelings back. I think it always will.
This was a great video 💜 I always get emotional thinking about this song and mv, it holds a message so important. I remember it was spring day that made me become an army.

Many people are going through these kinds of things, and knowing that maybe no one knows they are suffering like this in somewhere dark and quiet probably right now just gets me angry. What makes me more sad is that many of us can just watch it happen, yet can't do anything about it.. yet, sometimes having awareness is better than nothing, and that's why I think we should try to do our best, and not be negative. Being negative can make you ignore the positive things, and that's not good. Anyways, I hope everyone of us to have peaceful tomorrows and futures 💜🎗️

Thank you for reacting to this explanation video about the Sewol Ferry disaster. When I first started getting into BTS, I watched the Spring Day MV, and in the comments, there were so many ppl commenting about the disaster and I started watching so many videos about the disaster.
I was sobbing and couldn't believe how the efforts to save those poor children were thwarted by the government. There were two ships nearby, I know one was an American ship doing military exercises, and they offered assistance, but were turned down by the government. There was videos made by some of the students, and overhead you can hear the message playing that tells them to stay where they are as it is dangerous to move and might make the ship tilt more. You can already see the ship was tilting.
The ship was bought from Japan, then unsafely altered to carry more cargo. The only way it passed inspection, is the government official had to look the other way. The reason the government kept rescuers away is they did not want ppl to find out about all the changes made to the ship.
I do believe RM wrote the lyrics to be taken in more than one way. It is about longing and missing someone, but I also believe it pays much respect to the Sewol Ferry Disaster. They are just safer not tying it directly to the Disaster.

Awn, you sharing that with your parents is so sweet. I'm sure they will love spring day MV if you show them. Loved the reaction, and ofc I cried along with you. I always cry when watching this video. Spring day has not left the charts in korea since its release, it is the queen of BTS songs.
This breaks my heart over an over. I watched it again with you and cried with you. As a mother I’m furious about all of that. I sympathize so much, all the lost lives and futures, destroyed families…this tragedy is standing for so many things that go wrong in our world if power is abused and powerful people are corrupted.

Besides the heartbreaking footage of parents frustrated out of their minds because they can't help their dying kids, one of the thoughts that always hits me the most when watching this explanation is that the footage and pictures from inside the ferry were filmed and sent with mobile phones by students shortly before they.... 😭
That being said I really want to point out that not all of the crew abandoned the kids: Three crew members lost their lives trying to save them and I feel it's important to remember those three for their valor and ultimate sacrifice. One volunteer diver also died later on in an underwater accident while involved in the recovery of the bodies and another took his own life because of the horrors he faced inside the ferry.
The rest of the crew members were later charged with various crimes ranging from abandoning ship and negligence all the way up to the captain who is currently serving a life sentence for homicide. As he should! 😤
But yeah, I have so much respect for BTS and Big Hit for taking a stand despite the riscs and for donating quietly (they all do that a lot but the media often finds out later on). And last but not least it's important to separate the song from the MV because the song is in fact not about Sewol but about loss and longing in a broader sense, only the MV is a reference to the disaster. "The Queen" has stayed on the charts for six years so far and is still going strong...

I remembered this tragedy when I woke up going to school. I saw what happened and they said they got all the students out as what they reported in the news. But next thing I know after few days, they were all gone... I was so confused back then as how that happened. I also listened to this song but never watched the MV but I always feel sad whenever I hear the song. When I finally saw the MV, I knew it was about the Ferry accident. Still, to this day, I felt sad of what happened. I watched a lot of documents of it and even saw some videos that was recorded by the students inside the boat and other videos that was trying to rescue them but denied so.

This explanation video infuriates me and breaks my heart. I always do the ugly cry when I watch it, and the father who bows all the way to the floor before the uncaring politicians is just so hard to watch. It just hurts so much. I am impressed by BTS's attention to detail in the video, and with their bravery in standing with the Sewol families despite the attitude of the government and the potential trouble they could have gotten. This is one of the worst stories I've ever heard.

I almost cried watching with u. I love this song. It's so beautiful. I love songs with feels. I am reading the BTS book now and even in the book they do not confirm the song is about the tragedy. They actually say army links it to the sewol tragedy but they were singing about a lost friend. I did not cry when I heard the song or saw the video for the 1st time. It did touch my heart though. It will repeat some things but it will also add to the connections. There are a few explanation videos. Some have more detail than the others. This song is a Queen because it's on the charts so many years. Stores play it in Korea because ppl want to remember and never forget. BTS made this one to help ppl remember. I guess the people who said it was never confirmed didn't realize Jin did confirm it in Esquire magazine a few years ago. When asked about the song and if the fan theory that it was about a certain event was true, Jin said "It is about a sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing." BTS' relationship with their government has been a rocky, sketchy road. I think former President Moon was the only was actually on their side. But that's a whole other story.

This explanation video is really good! One of my fave! There is another explanation video which has similar point but also brings up a lot of the visuals in the MV a lot more. I think it's good to watch both of them cause they give didn't perspectives/ thoughts about certain things or more like more information in a way. You don't have to film a reaction but i think it's a really good watch so i'll link it here incase you'd like to watch it on your own time

I like to tell you that Bighit and Tannies couldn't accept they made this song specially for this tragic event but they did. At that time or even after when this accident happened, so many people including people who tried to help families of victims have been suffered and targeted by the Korean Government and so called the right wing people who tried to deny the goverment responsibility. Sorry to accept this reality, but the families still try to fight to know the actual reason of why their kids happened to get killed in those tiny cabins but positions didn't answer them well enough 😭😭😭
