I saw someone do a color e ink comparison, and the best unit for color reproduction was the Pocketbook Inkpad Color. The Boox go color 7 had the 2nd best color.

As an Oasis owner considering whether another device would suit me better for occasional manga, I was really interested in that section - but it has left me slightly confused! 15:16 you say Kindle on the left, Boox on the right (agreed!). Then about the linework (camera slightly towards Kindle) "you can see a little more detail in the linework" (then move to closeup of Boox) "yeah it's there", but (then move to closeup of Kindle) "if you appreciate the details of the art". But then you say the Boox shows it a little bit more... From the video it looks like there's a fuzzyness/graininess to the Boox image when you zoom in - but it might just be that the kindle is too 'smoothed' in comparison. Could you clarify this? Also, one thing that bugs me about manga on the Oasis is that zooming leaves everything looking really soft compared with doing the same thing on the Kindle App on a phone or tablet - do you find that zooming on the Kindle app on the Boox is sharper? for sure! so from what i noticed on the oasis vs the.boox go color 7, the kindle 'smooths' the details of the manga/graphic novel by removing some of the details for a 'cleaner' look. so if you are okay with that then the oasis is fine but if you want more of the details in the line work and even the shading the go color 7 imo is the way to go. when i do panel view/zoom on the go color 7 i don't notice any issues with the quality getting softer! it keeps the quality but i don't think it'll ever be ask crisp as an lcd device just because it's an eink device at the end of the day. hopefully that helps!!
there is only one speeker and you have to keep in mind that. Also there is no 3.5 jack and pretty hard to dealing with text size in every one app. you have to again and again adjust it. Also, in general, it hard to read pdf sized for A4 format cause it coudldn't be resized to color 7 screen size. in others ways i would like to recomend it. Also Binance couldn't be installed on boox color 7. :-) If you ever will need it))))
I went from a libra h20 the first one to a boox note air 3c which is like a 10" model without page turn buttons. I love it so much. It was super easy to put my books into their book app and to set up digital journals in the notes app that are built in. If you ever want to do that it's super easy just copy paste. Sometimes authors have free epubs or PDFs of their books on their websites and I grab those. I had already switched from Amazon to Kobo about ten years ago so I had a lot of my Kindle library converted already. But I do love having all the reading apps there are out there. The built in device book app has text to speech.
I want to buy an eBook reader, but I’m unsure if I should go for the color option or stick with the black-and-white one. The black-and-white model seems fine to me, but I’m hesitant about the color one because I’ve heard it can look dim, with darker colors. Everything else about it seems good, but I’m worried that the colors might affect the overall reading experience. I prefer a fully black-and-white screen with moderate contrast. What do you think? Does the color screen affect the reading experience, especially considering I’m not particularly interested in reading comics or manga
honestly i think it depends! some people are not a fan of the color e-ink for a multitude of reasons (expecting lcd quality colors, depending on the device not enough color options, etc) but other people really like it. if you aren't a big manga or comic reader though the black and models (depending on the device) usually have better contrasting for ebooks but definitely make sure you know what that looks like and you're okay with that before you buy it!
@kicsrepins The color screen. Although I do have a Kindle fire that's basically the same, so I really don't need it. I put a matte screen protector on my fire and it looks like an ereader now. Plus it's in color and I can get all the reading apps.
Same i also got a kindle oasis but i love how you can put other apps on this not just kindle books and i love my palma but sometime i like the bigger screen or maybe its just the novelty of having something like the palma but in a bigger format i dont really know but i like how this looks so i may end up with both in the future even though i really dont need it lol
With manga its pretty perfect, but I did find myself going back to my phone/tablet for comics, sadly the color tech isnt there yet, thankfully I only read a handful of those by comparison
my main concern is that this device runs on android 12. what happens when this OS will be outdated? will it be possible to use the kindle and kobo apps anyways? I'm so tempted to return my paperwhite 12th gen due to the poor screen quality and get this one, but I'm scared that in a few years I'll have to change it because the OS will be outdated and I will no longer be able to read my books :(
that's fair! you could always wait for a newer model for whatever brand color e-reader since it's pretty new and prob is getting more developed in the ereader space
as long as you download the kindle app on it you can have access to all your kindle books! i actually haven't really brought it outside like that but when i read it in the brighter parts of the house it's not a problem and works like the kindle in the sun since it's eink
Do the hoopla and Libby apps work pretty well on it? I would love to have an ereader that works with hoopla but I haven’t seen much about how it works on the boox
in my opinion they do! the page turning buttons get a little finicky in certain apps like hoopla, but they've done a good job with each update iteration and fixing that, so now they work with the app after some trouble shooting. i'm planning on doing a follow up video so i can cover that in a future video!
i think in general the boox devices are better image quality (b&w or color) but color in general for the boox it just depends on what level of detail you're looking for. it's not going to be the same as a phone screen
mine has been consistently lasting a week before i have to charge so i think it just depends on how many apps you have open and how much you use it throughout the day/week. plus having it sleep versus turn off when it's not in use also affects the battery life
personally i would not watch videos on the device since the combo of e-ink and the lower refresh rate would make the experience pretty different than mobile and laptop devices
i do! i have a bunch of books on airplane mode on my kindle so currently i'm reading more on there atm but i split my time on my oasis and the go color 7

For someone who reads books its a great review however I was shocked at the excessive usage of "literally" like so many times. People who read books "literally"have good vocabulary "literally"

i mostly read on the kindle, libby and hoopla app so that hasn't been an issue with me!

I think e-ink is not good for videos. It can get verry blurry from what I've seen.
