Using tool-assistance, it's possible to get to Nettori and Yakuza early before fighting Zazabi. It's actually necessary to go through Nettori's room because it temporarily clears the vegetation and allows me to get to Yakuza. You only have to leave the room (the door isn't locked), but I decided to show the whole fight. Also, entering certain doors around Nettori will cause the vines to come back again. The quick pauses in the video are for luck manipulation (to get the eye door to open and for Yakuza to open its mouth right away). I bomb jumped my way out of the room to show that killing Yakuza doesn't change anything.
Unfortunately, the game doesn't let you do things out of order, and you don't get the plasma beam or space jump. Instead, it tells you that you've unlocked whatever the last level of doors is that you've unlocked. This does not screw up the game, however, as you can continue playing normally and come back to Nettori and Yakuza later. Bosses beaten early will always respawn until you beat them at the intended time.

Interesting how using download rooms and security rooms and fighting bosses and stuff will just trip event flags that give you upgrades rather than just unlocking them

Excuse me but every games have a beta phase: so they could easilly fix errors by adding the regular reactor to prevent crashing when entering it too early
Maybe the devs originally made the game less linear/have more shortcuts and sequences breaking.
You can come back to the reactor after it's fixed, and it's like that. The game just loads the normal room, then if you are at a specific point in the story it adds vines and stuff
They purposefully made the game the game not able to be sequence broken. They fail-safes are in to prevent that>
Anyway, they most likely did that as to go a make it so IF the player somehow got their early they made sure it looked fine than if the place looked destroyed before.

For anyone wondering, the messages are put in there as crash handlers. Better the testers know if/when/where they screwed up rather than the game locking up

Other people mentioned the reactor, but I have to mention the tiny detail that beams shot by core X actually open doors, a detail absolutely nobody would normally discover since the doors lock whenever you encounter a core X that shoots beams.

good thing you got those blue hatches open twice over, i got unlucky when i played and the game gave me the useless space jump and plasma beam powerups, my blue doors are only slightly unlocked, do you believe the game expects me to shoot them? screw the ability to jump continously who needs that when i can open blue doors XD

there is a gameshark code that accesses a debug menu that allows toggling equipment on / off, including selecting only certain beam upgrades
Well that's because you have to get every beam in this one but not that one.

DarkShadowHawk720: In Zero mission you can see Wave Beam without Ice Beam. And in Super Metroid you can see Plasma without Wide Beam. Unfortunately, the plasma is mixed w/ice so we cant see just plasma no wide beam/ ice

Nope. Unfortunately the event system prevents you from getting anything out of order. Super Metroid and Zero Mission were very sequence-breakable but fusion is incredibly solid.

Is "Target eradicated" the default message for Adam when there isn't a specific instruction programmed for him? Seems like an odd thing to put in instead of something like "Error! No message!"
+Jack Carroll Adam has text for every possible event value. I believe "target eradicated" is a mistranslation. A better translation might be "task completion in progress".
So, the developers planned for a player to reach this navigation room early, and wrote a message for that specific event? Or do many event values have this text assigned to them, and this is just one particular example of it?

But seriously. Does this sequence break actually set a flag so it unlocks the blue doors, or is that message just a placeholder and appears on every sequence break to prevent the game from crashing?

Pretty much just that. As the runner mentioned, the game won't grant upgrades unless EXACTLY the right triggers are triggered in EXACTLY the right order. Any deviation from this hard 1:1 plan will cause the boss/etc. to respawn and grant a default message, the last event flagged.
fun fact, if you cheat to have an item before a boss would normally give it to you the boss simply wont spawn at all when you enter its room since the game thinks it must be dead if you have the item
What I find interesting about this is how it shows that later Core-Xs have already had their hit points manually scaled up to match the strength of the missiles you're supposed to be fighting them with. Normally each core takes maybe one more missile than the previous one, but here you're having to pump in over a dozen.
I love how the missile is synced with the charge shot on the first battle

@matroid9 it's tool assisted, not hacked. the game wasn't altered in any way.
That is why there needs to be a hack for Metroid Fusion. It would add some hacked-together sprites and have special code so that:
- Shinesparking Bosses does something
- You can turn items on and off
- You can get early powerbombs and abilities
- There will be extra dialogue in the game in case you sequence-break
- You can do a suitless Sector 5 if you really want
- It will be called Spazer beam instead of Wide beam
- You can use early Plasma beam to stun SA-X (longer than freezing) and make /c

I love how thanks to how the soundtrack works in this game, you get to listen to the level theme as you’re fighting bosses.
So the safety measure in this old GBA game for the extreme event of beating bosses out of order is a flag for a bogus unlock from the last door level passed, then ignores the victory condition that prevents the boss from being permanently removed from the current save file until the story sequence plays out as scripted...
That's some solid work that even some modern studios would neglect.

Was anyone else able to make a rythm when the nettori's beam would hit the wall and you would shoot at it or am I the only one?
For those who don't understand, the messages are a way for the game to evade the crash, so the game show messages for events or things that you are supposed to do.
In Metroid Zero mission, if you have the complete suit in the very start of the game, the game evade the crash, sending you to the Kraid/Ridley stone face, but you cant open them

welp...no plasma beam (or space jump)...EVER...I wonder what the end result beam looks like without it? Unless you get the the wave beam and it gives you the plasma beam because reasons...this actually has me really curious now.
+Corruptor366 The bosses will respawn until you get the correct item. The wave beam looks normal, even if you're missing the other beams.
I saw this as a kid before I knew what TAS was, and actually tried to do it. I still think it MIGHT be possible to do, but no way am I gonna try anymore

Pretty neat that the game prevents you from skipping anything. Even things that are seemingly impossible.
The bosses are giving you the wrong items because every time you activate an ability get, it goes down the list. Meaning by killing the bosses early, it doesn't give you it's ability early. You still have to kill the other bosses or activate events to get them early. But that mostly doesn't happen anyway because if you activate security doors through a boss, you can't activate the security door switch to activate another event. Its quite ingenious really, preventing sequence breaks like that.

nope, thats a message for a differnt mission, no matter what network room you use it will say the same message for the intended goal, the game didnt recognise that yakuza and nettori have died and still thinks the player is going after zazabi, btw even if you kill the bosses early the game makes them respawn for their intended encounter (hence why unlocking lv 1 doors poped up instead of the item to prevent the game from breaking)

+Taco Sasquatch You can go back to the reactor afterwards and it shows the same thing. The 'before' is what you see it as the first time, and the 'after' is what you see after you beat Nettori.

Usually a TAS is just an emulator played at very slow speeds, so all the tricks that require frame perfect timing can be nailed much much easier =3
