To see my culture being represented in a respectful and accurate way brings tears to my eyes! I’m so happy people are starting to see how beautiful the Mexican culture truly is! lauregui well Disney tried to trademark Dia de los Muertos back in 2013 and there was some outrage(rightly so). So I think they had to get it right to save face.
I love that the outfits are authentic not costume versions of things. That charro suit with gold thread is expensive. They nailed the details and didn’t go cheap. The puppets are awesome.

It's beautiful that Disney made a movie of the tradition of my wonderful Mexico. They did a good job with El Dia de Los Muertos! Also happy independence day Sep 16 for Mexico!!! QUE VIVA MEXICO! VIVA! My land is so full of color, tasty food, and music!

Skunk Man it’s a lot better in Spanish. But I’m talking from a Spanish speaker perspective. It just sounds more natural and the performance from the actors are better since they’re speaking in their natural language

I like that Miguel is a puppet but they really missed an opportunity in not making the puppeteer dress up like Héctor in my opinion.... would’ve made way more sense.
I know this is a two year old comment but I agree with you. The puppeteer would also fit more too. It would be a really cool duo
That puppeteer and the puppet design for Miguel is AMAZING. If you actually focus on just Miguel and not the puppeteer behind him he almost seems real except for maybe the slightly creepy smile

The idea of Miguel being a puppet fits well into the Mexican theme because of the use of real mexican puppets that became popular in Mexico

They had this puppet at Disneyland Paris last year during haloween, it's so beautiful and creative, I prefer this over a costumed character for Miguel!

The puppets are masterpieces,they're expressive as heck,the size of them are perfect and they look incredibly accurate to the film.Also,it is such a good idea to do these puppets for coco since imagine a full grown adult act like Miguel?that would be extremely uncomfortable. XD

That puppet is hella cute and the puppeteer has the perfect youthful acting to transmit Miguel's emotion. I think it's beautiful how this whole show gives so much love to both Mexican culture and the great art of puppetry!

regionalatbts lol what? There’s PLENTY of representation of Mexican culture here in the states. Literally names of streets, the ridiculous amount of Mexican restaurants specifically in California. Also, there was the Book Of Life movie that came out BEFORE Coco, but now that Disney does this it’s “finally getting some recognition”.... really? Lol 🤦♂️
@@steelerfan310 She means in a broader sense, I lived in Los Angeles most of my life and yes we had most neighborhoods to ourselves, but the representation wasn't there. To be able to show everyone what beauty the cultura has is beyond words. More people are opening their eyes and becoming more accepting of Mexican people. Also seeing yourself on screen is inspiring and studies show it affects children on a deep level. Representation matters.

Oh gosh... i don't know why watching this made me cry... sure, yes, my family is Mexican, but i was born and raised in Los Angeles! I feel as American as anybody I know!! Yet, to see Mexican culture get some Disney love, to elevate Dia De Los Muertos like this... it makes Mexico's cultural contributions seem all the more special and relevant to the world community. I love the puppet! It’s very cute and reminds me of the puppets my grandparents would bring back from Mexico. The gold detailing on the charro suit is absolutely stunning as well.

I’m trying to ignore the Debbie Downers. A small (odd looking) costume character would take away from the beauty of the art and awesomeness of the puppets and the puppet handlers. This puppet is awesome, and so is its handler! Job well done! Beautiful!

same! lol I hate it..I always cry. I was so in love with the music from Coco that I bought the soundtrack CD and have it in my car always. The last song is perhaps my favorite and makes me most emotional. I'm getting married next September (just got engaged at Disneyland actually) and we're trying to get a mariachi band to play coco music for our wedding. My fiance's family is all from Mexico and we have two boys together..Our wedding is going to be a true mix of cultures and a bringing together of both families, something very beautiful that this movie represents..family is most important and of course "our love for each other will live on forever".

My mom passed three months ago and two months ago I watched this movie with my nephew we hadn’t watch it before and we cried so much watching it . Now he wants to visit her on el dia de los muertos ... to pay her respect . ( we are Hispanic but el dia de los muertos is not highly celebrated here ... it should tbh )
