As someone who is in it every season, they were in no harm. They're about a thousand feet up on an opposing mountain. What you're mainly seeing is just the cloud. The dangerous mass of an avalanche loses a lot of momentum going over just rolling hills in a flat section, and here we're talking about a steep slope up hill here.
@@heidikickhouse- I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume English isn't your native language, but I did not say every season "in a year." I simply said every season. For all the people saying they should run, an average avalanche travels 80mph/129kmh. You can't out run one. They were lucky to be a safe distance away. for the idiot who didn't read my second comment: you're supposed to move diagonally or to the side of an oncoming avalanche (away from the middle) so you move in the direction where less snow will cover you. I'm not defending what they did I'm just saying running away is impossible.
You can at least find cover and lie down low so that the cloud of debris (even if snow) goes over you and doesn't knock you down forcefully. And if you get stuck then people would know to check those cover spots first.
@@aetherblackbolt1301 you're supposed to move diagonally or to the side of an oncoming avalanche (away from the middle) so you move in the direction where less snow will cover you. I'm not defending what they did I'm just saying running away is impossible.
@DoKuShOsTaR probably something in-between the two. One big crash of forceful wind and wreckage, and then it's done.. just make sure you headcount your buddies!
@@CartGod6969 you don't need to outrun the avalanche. You only need to run to the nearest place to find shelter. If there is a tree nearby and the avalanche is more dense than it looks you can use the tree to get to the surface as well as protect you from larger chunks of snow and ice.
I think he was going to say it probably wasn’t going to hurt them and they weren’t in serious danger, but he cut it off and said it was going to hit them-but in a lighthearted tone
at the point it reached them, it was mainly just snow clouds. the vast majority of the snow that shed in the avalanche would have been deposited in that valley, they would have known that quite well and just saw an opportunity for a good video.
Downhill avalanches can travel over 200 miles per hour. They're so lucky they're up high, a bit far & the lower areas absorbed the majority of its energy. Pretty cool to see though!
I mean, the snow travels fast, but it travels down the slope towards a path of least resistance. Avalanches don’t travel up hills, they settle at the bottom. All you’re seeing them get hit with is the snow kicked up into the air during the avalanche which dissipates quickly and is not dangerous in this context. It’s akin to getting hit with the spray after a wave crashes in front of you. If the wave hit you it could hurt you, but it instead hits the rocks in front of you and you just get hit with ocean spray.
The snowboarder sitting down and openening their arms is 100% me. No point in panicking at this point. Either I'll live or I won't, nothing I do will change that 🤷🏼♀️

Survival tip for if you see an avalanche.
Tell it to stop. Tell it you do not wanna be touched.
Our politicians should just put on "Avalanche Free Zone" signs up. Problem solved 👏
That doesn't even work on dates.

Nope, you have to take out the camera and start recording cameraman never dies
Dont give it consent yep
As someone who has basically never been in snow my whole life, I was so concerned that no one was screaming and running away😅
@@dustinoman Wait, "EVERY season"?!? All four? (Going to my globe to try to figure out where you live... So. Pole?)
@@heidikickhouse- I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume English isn't your native language, but I did not say every season "in a year." I simply said every season. Fill in the obvious blank to some, and it means every winter season. I get it, potential open interpretations might be tricky sometimes to some, but I'm glad I could clear that up for you!!
@@heidikickhouse-that's a stupid interpretation. When people are taking about season specific activities, it applies to that specific season. Like someone talking about a campground and saying every season they get x number of tourists. They are talking about camping season. The season is the length of time the campground is open (ie March to September).

Nah they are fine. Their on a hill the valley below caught the slide.
They are fine tho they are high up all the snow stayed down that all just "dust" gonna be a Lil snow storm and then gone may cover u in a inch or 2 of snow
And no matter how fast you are, you're not fast enough. You're not getting away from that. Might as well watch.
Maybe because you are standing still.
To be honest, they are not in danger. 90% of the snow fell into the valley

I would have skied away when a first saw it. Being dumb is dangerous.
@@ctruth6185 The only way to ski is down and that would get you in more danger than where they are right now. So if you are in this situation, dont ski away into the valley.

Brace yourselves, huddle together so you can find each other and dig out together.
Bro that was the dust of it not the actual snow

As a native Floridian I can only imagine this is like bracing yourself for a wave to break on you lol
Probably more like bracing for a Tsunami 😅. Apparently they can have Hurricane force winds on top of all the snow and ice trying to bury you.
@DoKuShOsTaR probably something in-between the two. One big crash of forceful wind and wreckage, and then it's done.. just make sure you headcount your buddies!
@@DoKuShOsTaR Sure, well there are waves of varying size/intensity the same as avalanches I guess.
Probably more like getting ready to run to your car when it’s pouring rain outside
Yeah, except if you're under water you can still swim toward the surface. If you're buried in enough snow you're stuck until you die of dehydration.

How we haven’t gone extinct as a species yet is a miracle. Literally standing in front of an avalanche coming but standing to record it.
what are you going to do? outrun it?
@@CartGod6969 you don't need to outrun the avalanche. You only need to run to the nearest place to find shelter. If there is a tree nearby and the avalanche is more dense than it looks you can use the tree to get to the surface as well as protect you from larger chunks of snow and ice.
We created a society where stupid people can safely procreate enmasse.

Downhill avalanches can travel over 200 miles per hour. They're so lucky they're up high, a bit far & the lower areas absorbed the majority of its energy. Pretty cool to see though!
Did they want a death wish? Also is there another type than a downhill avalanche😂
I was thinking that I always worried some of the trees might come along with it
I mean, the snow travels fast, but it travels down the slope towards a path of least resistance.
You can see it lose energy towards the end, thanks for pointing out
They probably chose the spot on purpose.

There's a video of some people surviving an avalanche that way
"It's not *that* the wind is blowin'. It's HWAT, the wind is blowin'."
That might save you from a 40mph rock or even just from the slam of the snow so you're only buried and not buried AND injured.
OR the boulder will also move and you'll be mush underneath it. 😂
