  • This is the new Kia EV3, and it has just finished in 2nd place in the “car of the year in Europe” contest for 2025. So, the jury clearly thinks a lot of the EV3.
The Kia EV3 has been eagerly anticipated, and it is what many have been waiting for. Ultra-compact, reliable, and spacious at an affordable price. It looks like the big EV9 but the smaller EV3 stands out, and it defines a new no-nonsense, contemporary premium segment with a bold design. Like the excellent EV6 and EV9, it is built on Kia’s E-GMP platform. The car is 431 cm long and 185 cm wide, with mirrors it is about 205 cm wide. The drag coefficient is a decent 0.263.

The car on test has the optional GT-Pack which costs 1500 CHF, plus the glass sunroof, a 900 CHF option, as well as the matt-paint, a 1’950 CHF option.
Kia’s Head of design, Karim Habib, is recognized for establishing Kia’s new design philosophy, expressed by the new “Opposites United” design philosophy, which takes inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and humanity. The first car with the new design was the EV6, then came the EV9, then this EV3, and more EVs will follow, incl. an EV2, EV4 and EV5.
There is a fair amount of space in the EV3; 25 litres in the frunk, and 460 litres in the back without the second seat row folded and a practical two-level floor. With folded seats the capacity increases to 1250 litres. The car weighs 2005 kg and can pull a trailer up to 1000kg depending on the trim.
In the single motor FWD-version GT-Line we have here, we get 204 HP and 283 Nm of torque and the claimed WLTP range is 525 km. The top speed is 170 km/h, and 0-100 km/h will take 7.9 sec.
I like the way it drives; it is clearly focused on the needs of young families or elderly couples who want to travel in comfort. The Kia EV3 takes the stress out of driving, and you feel totally in control. The car is filled with high-tech, and driver assist systems make some unnecessary, annoying bling noises. It feels at home in the city and on shorter distances - at motorway speeds the consumption goes up but the car stays very composed and if you can live with the slightly longer charging time, then you will be fine on longer trips.

Thank you for the nice review; I have only two observations: it’s not just the charging power that’s important, but also the charging curve-which in this Kia EV3 is remarkable. The space between the rear seats and the boot cover is due to the fact that in the Korean version the rear seats are reclining-it’s absurd that this option has been eliminated for the European market. Finally, I think the comparison with the competition could have been more realistic if vehicles more in line with this Kia had been considered, such as the Skoda elroq, Peugeot, Volvo ex30, Renault4, VW id.3… Tesla Model Y and Skoda Enyaq are definitely in a completely different league.

@@MN-vh2no Sure, I do not disagree about the comparison, however the cars I mentioned are in the same price range as the KIA EV3. Peugeot is a terrible EV....., and the Volvo EX30 is significantly smaller and yet less efficient (see my test). I will be testing the Skoda Elroq in March.

The gap behind the back seat appeared when they fixed the seat reclining for safety class testing.

@@morten_hannesbo Yes only when you restart the vehicle. So what. If you go on a long drive - it's off. You said in your review that it takes a number of steps to turn that off - that's what I was referring to.

The remote Parking in the GT is far from a "2.0" Version. Ist not "smart" at all, because it only goes forward and backward currently. You might better want to call it "RDPA" (remote dumb parking assist). ;)

@@pastorfox Agree. I tested the remote parking in the Genesis GV70 as well (same software) and there is much potential to do better.

@@morten_hannesbo blimey! My 15 year old Volkswagen Golf can park reverse into a gap at the street side with those old sensors. They really shouldn't advertise "RSPA 2.0" (!) - this is misleading advertising.
