Dear Geo, This video has helped me realising one of my dreams. I always wanted to shave with a shavette razor ever since I visited a barber Shop. I live in India and its a country on the shaving map. I wanted to shave with a shavette all my life. Whenever I went and told a barber that I wanted to learn using a shavette they used to tell me that I will end up seriously wounding myself it always made me envy them. Today I have completed my twentieth shave i.e one full tuck of blade. A big thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Geo I wanted to say thanks because my dad never taught me to shave and I was stuck with scaring my face with cheap disposable razors. Now that I have seen your videos I'm using a straight razor and have learnt a lot
Must have watched this about 20 times before giving my first run at it tonight. I've always been a die hard safety razor fan. This was a completely different animal all together! Managed to complete a 3 pass shave with only 2 nicks on my chin that were easily cleared with some alum. Baby Butt Smooth with the exception of my chin. I'm sure more experience will yield even better results. Thanks for the videos! Geo Rocks! :)
Bryan Wickel Thanks! Only 2 small chin-nicks on your first shave? That's pretty good. Yep, each upcoming shave will see an improvement in technique and end result. Try to get your chin as flat as possible with facial movements or by stretching it with your free hand. Enjoy!
+geofatboy 2 passes and 2 almost invisible nicks using cheapo amazon shavette. I only have a slight problem under my neck. Hair grows east to west and its hard to angle it right to cut that last bit of stubble.
pretty rare for me to add to comments, but got to be said.... thanks to this (and other) vids, took the plunge and got myself a basic shavette (sanguine coolcut 4) and the other bits and bobs (soap, shave oil... decent brush). First results were NOT great... but after the first week, it's finally sinking in that prepration is key and it's not a five minute "scrape the fuzz" job we get tricked into having with the "5 blade mach 25" that some manufactures would have us believe is what shaving is all about... Today was the first "proper full shave" attempt. Result?... Baby smooth shave, even after 10+ hours after... no nasty red bits of irritation on the more sensitive areas. Don't think I'll be going back to over-priced cartridge systems any time soon. Thanks for the vids - keep up the good work.
Geo, I just finished my first shave with my first straight razor...you sir are a master! I dont know what i was doing before tonight but it wasnt shaving. And I gotta say you make it look so easy, only those brave souls that have tried this themselves know just how skilled you are. THANK YOU for these vids!!!!
I just started shaving with a straight razor style blade and bought a shavette a few weeks ago. Super sharp and can go through my 5 day growth just like in this video. I do three passes and its so smooth, such a great shave. Definitely recommend it.
I just bought this Parker shavette from Shave Nation. I've been using a straight edge for about 15-years. I gotta be honest - and I feel like I'm cheating - but the shavette is a much better shave! Those Feather blades are as sharp and perfect as possible. I've got a kit that looks somewhat like what Geo is showing in the background. I don't know if I'll every use them again.
A great instructional video. I bought a straight razor years ago and cut myself to ribbons. I just bought a shavette and tried it out tonight after a few beers. Very smooth shave and only a couple of pretty minor nicks. I will carry on practising. Nothing feels quite as good. By the way, it was Sergeant Esterhaus on Hill Street Blues who used to say that!
Just shaved with this razor for the first time, which was also my first straight razor shave. 1st pass with the Parker Shavette, and second pass with my Merkur DE razor. A few drops of blood later and I'm pretty satisfied with my performance. :-) Can't wait for my beard to grow back so I can get some more practice!
Amazing. I watched this a couple of times before buying a Dovo Shavette and I bled a little bit around the bottom of the neck but in general, it was a nice, close shave and I really enjoyed using it. I also managed a horizontal cut on the left landing strip and I don't know how that happened but, as the barmaid at my local pub said, chicks dig scars! I left it a few days and shaved with my Above The Tie single edge safety razor which gave a perfect shave but it just wasn't as interesting to use. Thanks for the lesson Geo.
I just got one of these!! I wanted to try out straight razor shaving and thought this would be a good cheap way to see if it was for me. I'm so glad to see you review this razor and to find out that I it's an acceptable implement. Thanks for all your great videos! They've been very informative and have helped me realize that I'd been doing a few things incorrectly. I'll definitely come you way when it's time for me to upgrade to an actual straight razor. Thanks again, TJ
thank you soon much. I shaved with a Parker for the first time today after watching some of your videos and I didn't cut myself. and the shave was such a memorable experience. I can't thank you enough.
Yup me too, I know my technique needs improvement but I wonder if the skin has to get used to this type of shaving. Even when I don’t cut myself my skin is red when I’m done.
Hey Geo, I ordered this razor from you and shaved it for the first time today. I've been getting into DE shaving over the past few weeks and wanted to give this a try. While it was kind of scary and I have to relearn how my hands work I have to say that I really enjoyed shaving with this. I did cut myself a few times because I can be a bit shaky but my second and third passes were waaaaaay better than my first. Very close shave and I enjoyed the challenge. Thanks for everything!
Thank for this really good video! I am 42 and I try my first time straight razor and I am impressed about the perfect result. Ok, a lot of small cuts ; ) but for the first time I think normal. Thank you again without your video much more cuts and never such a good result! Greetings from Croatia!
I have to ask mate did the Gillette ad bring you to the straight razor ? Because that's what brought me here I've had this same type razor for two weeks now but still to scared to try it
thank you I just got my first Shavette Straight Razor and have watch a few videos ,yours are the best and with what I have learned from you I feel I have a better understanding on how to do it the right way
Just finished my first go with this, what a harrowing experience! I struggled thru 1 rough pass, felt more like I was scraping than shaving. I'll keep at it, thanks for all your videos, they help tremendously!
blh6393 it's very important you figure out which way your beard grows... you want to start shaving with the grain at first. Also beard prep is very important as it helps the razor do it's job. Then you need to find the right angle which works for you. But I can assure you, with practice your shaves will improve and you will be a master at this in no time.
Ive been using a cheap Shavette from ebay and some TreeT blades 10..and i got 5 7oclock gillette sharpedge blades free he was a awesome guy...must say i like TreeT alot better. I wasCutting every shave until a monthish of using a shavette nothing bad just lil slices from pressure..now ive pre much got the down pass with no cuts just minor dots..just tried a under pass hahaha shred myself :D will keep working on it..but even 1 pass down is still awesome and a better shave than a mach 3...also DE blades are so damned cheap its stupid and they last a few shaves making it even cheaper..i just use once to twice throw out cus they r cheap enough..i have bad nerves And shakes i have aspergers so if i can do it...you can! Your videos help me alot everytime i watch themI learn something new that i didnt pick up. :) good stuff geo
I hear you man, had the same - 1. technique - comes with times so take breakes between razor shaves, you will improve massively with time but give your skin time to regenerate from abuse :) 2. razor burn balm (pre shave) 3 soothing lather like Proraso 4 . dont give up !
For the experience, it makes a boring task interesting. I look forward to shaving with my shavette every day, whipping up a nice lather, and getting the closest shave i can every time, it's fun stuff!!!!
Love this razor. Its my first straight shave anything and idk if I will ever go back to a regular razor. Great vid Fatboy their aren't enough Parker SR1 videos, but this is by far the best.
Just bought myself a shavette and will be waiting until the end of this week before I shave. Tired of the ingrown hairs and irritation the disposable razors give me so for more comfort I'm willing to invest some more time. Thanks for the tips!
You make this look so easy ! I recently tried shaving with a Parker SRX. There was blood 🩸..... several cuts. I need to regain the confidence to try it again
You make it look so easy!! Bought my first shavette recently, and did my first attempt lastnight. I'd watched a few of your videos beforehand, so it wasn't as bad as it might have been. Stuck with one pass as I'm a newbie. It did give quite a nice shave, but I had a few problem areas (mostly the chin!) where I ended up missing and doing with a disposable instead. I'll stick with it though! Thanks for your vids!
I'm used to vintage and antique straight razors, but can't be bothered getting them rehoned all the time, so I've just bought the Parker SRX in the hope that it's got some decent weight and balance to it. Any other shavette I've used have been far too light for me. Looking forward to getting it delivered soon. Thanks for the video. Useful and well presented as always. Cheers.
Thanks Geo!!! I ordered the Dovo Shavette and some other things from the sight for my first straight shave today. Your videos were so helpful and appreciated. My shave went well for the most part, I shave my whole head and the dome was definitely much more difficult than the face, thanks for all the tips!!!!!!
Small update: I am getting the hang of it, no nicks, I'm able to shave a bit faster now, and have more confidence/"feel". I strictly use my left hand for the left side of the face, and right hand for the right side. Even though it is tricky in the beginning, I think it will be better/practical in the long run. It is fun and quite satisfying to shave with a shavette! :) I might try to find a nice metal case to store it in. Perhaps one of those fountain pen cases?
Thank you very much !!! I tested it and it was one of the best shave ever...I bought my Parker shavete on ebay ant it works very well ...I watched all of your videos and you helped me a lot... I am very grateful if that means anything to you...Greetings across the ocean from Croatia somewhere in Europe...
Just got one of these for Christmas. Tried a feather in it (I use feathers in my DE, which admittedly is an adjustable that I keep on a low setting) and it tore my face up. Thanks for the video, I like seeing someone experienced with shaving use it.
Hey Geo, I received my Parker Shavette today (Rriday)... super fast shipping, thanks. So, just finished my first shave ever with this kind of razor. And no nicks so far! ha, I had a pot of styptic powder ready but didn't need to use it... yet. :) The scariest part for me was the very first time when I actually made skin contact with the blade. From there I just tried to keep the angle steady and that did the trick. Hope it will continue going well. Thanks for the video here, and fast shipping.
Yeah trust me, i look forward to every shave. It's a bit tricky and nerve racking to learn, but if you buy the right equipment, you get a great shave and a great experience. Try it out, you wont regret learning.
Thanks Geo! Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I've picked up so much from your thorough and incredibly patient tutorials.
Having switched to a DE razor about a year ago because I was told it would help prevent razor burn (it did!), I'm interested in trying a straight razor. Not wanting to invest in all the accoutrements straight away (and also wanting to avoid the skills of razor maintenance), I've invested in one of these. Kinda nervous to try it for the first time - been told to attempt the side of my face with my dominant hand for a start.
Used it first time this week and did it twice. But at the moment i look like Scarface... Its a wonder no one asked what happened. Also my face feels a bit messed up now, so I will leave it for a rest now. I was not pressuring by force and did it in my opinion quite light (even at some spots hair was not removed). Dont know how I messed up. I keep watching all youtube vids and hope I will get better.
third day and making a mess of it. especially spots. the local barber told me to keep doing....it has less irritaion than the conventional blades....use warm water and sudsy soap to get better results
i have one of these and they are very good!! in the uk we can get 50 de derby blades (100 shavette blades) for about £5 and with Taylor of Old Bond Street just a 20 min journey away, I was ready to go!! definitely recommended for those looking to get into shaving with a single blade
I fast forwarded thru your video initially and didnt catch your USMC shirt. However when you where shaving and said oblique i had a major final drill flashback, all i could think of was do i have to go right or left oblique, crap now im gonna get eaten by my senior and heavy, lol. Love the videos brother,im just learning this art and buying my first set of gear to get it all done. Ill be supporting your store and paying it a visit to get my stuff. Thank you for the time you invest in these videos.
I purchased this very shavette and a styptic pen for my first time cut throat shaving... got them today and tried it out only one real nic, okay 3 but hey it was my first time. Many more shaves to go before i buy a real one. I just wanted to say thanks. ( i purchased at shave nation)
Wow what a great product... I can get this to practice the angle of the straight razor and then switch to a more uniquely skilled straight razor. Thanks for the video this really opened my eyes.
Tried my first shave with the Parker SR1 shavette. It started out ok till I switched hands lol. I also realized my lather needs to be wetter than how I shave with a DE. There was blood, but now I really want to learn.
When using shaving soap have a second bowl a lather bowl, you will see them in geo's videos and in his store. Circle the brush in the soap until you feel you have enough then circle it in the bowl until it lathers, you made need more soap do it as many times as you need eventually you will get the hang of it and get a good lather it just takes time to get the hang of it. Also depends on what kind of soap you are using.
After a great deal of peer pressure about straight razor shaving on a face book page I have brought one of these. I have tried to explain that I can only use one arm.. So I hope that post shave I won't need medical assistance..
oh man my first pass with a shavette was brutal. (after using a DE safety for 6 years!) but fortunately only minor cuts that soon dissapeared. I must have had 2 much angle cuz the blade didn't want to move. This will definitely take some practice
That was one heck of an instructive video, Geo. You covered a good number of points that I needed/need tips on. I believe that from what you showed (and what I was able to hear and observe) very well in this video, my technique and effectiveness with a straight razor or shavette will both improve. That was a nice lather you whipped up, as well. And, hey, the jokes were good ones, to be sure. The one about "if it were easy, girls would do it" was great, but, a slight bit later, you followed up on the same line with a bit of "affection" for "the weaker sex." There was another very good funny line, too, but can't remember it now. (I will watch this video again, once or twice, to reinforce what you showed/taught, as well as for enjoying the jokes and their "delivery" again.) I have one question. I ordered a shavette a couple of days ago. I'd heard that a lighter shavette will prepare you for a heavier shavette, and that a heavier shavette will prepare you better for a (heavier) straight razor. With your experience and expertise, Geo, is that correct? I've been trying with a straight razor once or twice a month for the last 6 months or so. I'd like to see my ability advance a bit better or more reliably. I shave every 3 to 4 days. Short of shaving every time with a straight razor, will using a shavette be less of a big jump from a safety razor than using a straight razor? And, again, would using a shavette, rather than a straight razor, ease one into getting the hang of straight razor shaving, before starting to use a straight razor? This is a long "comment," Geo. Should I apologize for it already here, or wait until you detail the "damages" having to read it caused? Whatever the case, thanks again for one very graphic, instructive and helpful video. Best wishes, guy (or "gent").
Martin, thank you for your kind words and support. I'll break it down and make it simple: Start with an affordable shavette, easy to load, the hinged type: bit.ly/HingedShavetteSN Watch the video and practice the movements without the blade installed: th-cam.com/video/9IGMcZjTWOw/w-d-xo.html When you feel comfortable, insert the blade and shave one or both cheeks (they are the easiest areas to shave) Finish up that shave with your safety razor Subsequent shaves try to complete a bit more each shave with the shavette razor-still finishing with the safety razor Soon you'll be able to shave your entire face with the shavette razor Then you can move to a traditional straight razor: bit.ly/StraightRazorsSN
im new to the shavette style razor. Ive been using a safety razor for about a month now and got it down pretty good. Just tried my first shavette shave today...went horrible. Trying to get the angle right and forgetting to slow down. I will have to revisit it soon. Im very interested, but it was not at all pleasant. I hope i get the hang of it soon.
I got my first shavette today haven't used it on my face yet but I did try it on my hand just to see how sharp it is and I ended up with a cut on the back of my hand. Now I'm worried about my shave tonight haha
Yo Geo! Flawless vids as always, I tried my mate's Dovo shavette a good few months ago but it was hard to navigate due to a small mole on my face, so i finished it with the 34c HD. Surprised to know you were in the Marines. The Seals team did an awesome job man. God Bless America and you my friend. Take care bro.
Wow, I was interested in the whole straight razor/ shavette process to use, but I just don't think I have that much time to commit to the process. That appears pretty labor intensive. Nice video to demonstrate how it is done.
Got a parker sr1 shavette from online and thought what the hey give it a try since so many people gave it good reviews..and wowie..get a decent shaving soap use this two days then use my safety razor two days...0 nicks bbs 3 pass no razor burn and to top it off i think it feels really comfortable to hold.. I just rotate some derbys, racers, sharks, perma sharps and some derby pros..really like the derbys on my face and head due to smoothness may try some astras personnas and feathers one day people seem to say they are excellent
Geo (hope that is your name, couldn't find any other reference to it), Thanks for making this video, I'm a long time fan of classic wet shaving (thanks to Corey at Shaveblog). I use a Merkur Futur, but after enjoying a straight shave in a barbers recently I bought a Parker Shavette to try this out myself. Yours is one of the clearest and well-explained videos I found and it's helped me a lot with starting on the shavette - don't know if this is the path I'll take yet, it's interesting. Thanks.
Well i've shaved twice with my new razor, i think using this shavette is more effective than a regular razor, Fav part is i don't get any razor bumps. Definitely not as hard as i thought. Your right haha i've cut my hands applying the razor they are very sharp indeed.
Hello Geo,greetings from India .started DE shaving 1 year ago with feather popular then moved to Parker 26c,now got Parker sr 1 shavette. All after seeing your suggestions and availability in India . Journey to De closed ,open and shavette wld nt hv been possible with out your videos
After toying with the idea of buying a straight razor and wondering what to buy for a beginner, will i take to it, what if i cant master the stropping and honing ect ect and genrally doing my head in i decided to try the parker one you just used first as its a cheaper option and hopefully give me an insite into straight razor shaving. Great vid by the way mate and you make it look so easy Lol.
So new to this world of real shaving... but it's really awesome. Fascinating stuff. Worth learning as a skill to pass on to your offspring as my friend said. Thanks for the video.
Lol man Geo out of all the videos that I've watched of yours I have never seen you nick yourself. You must have some mad skills my friend. I've gotten better with my technique but ever once in awhile I get a brain fart and catch myself. I guess I need to become one with the razor, LMAO. Great vid as always, I'm waiting for something to come in the mail that I'm pumped about. When it comes in I'll be putting out a vid. Later bro, and happy shaving. Peace.
I haven't used a straight in a few years. I need to send both my straights out to be honed. I was skeptical about using my left hand in the beginning. After trying to use my right hand on the left side of my face a time or two I finally decided that my left hand was going to have to shape up and become more useful. I got the hang of it without incurring any major injuries. It can be done.
i bought the exact same model as the one in the video,i was used to using safety razors and i really did get a bit cut and a little razor burn but if you dont make many mistekes and dont push to hard on the skin you will get the hang of it in a metter of weeks and youl get a prettt good shave but the first 3 or 4 times shaving expect some nicks and cuts
Thanks for this video. I've just bought a Parker shavette to see how I'd like the switch from electric being I have sensitive skin. If all is good I plan on upgrading to a traditional straight, the maintenance might take some getting used to though...honing+stropping.
So basically, on the neck, the second sideways pass is actually against the grain? It seems as though you are doing the same thing on the third pass i.e. going against the grain and not actually sideways. Unless there is something subtle I am missing here?
Thanks for taking the time to make these great videos! I am new to using a safety/straight razor and keep a very short shadow of a beard all around. I'm looking to regularly shave the upper cheek areas, areas under the bottom lip near the chin, and bottom of the neck (hopefully you get the idea). I wanted to know what you would recommend to get started with between safety, straight, or shavette like you have here. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. - cheers from Boston!
Thanks again, Geo, for another well-done, informative tutorial. Thanks also for trying all the different types of razors. I watched a different video of yours where you used a straight razor, but, as it turns out, I purchased the Parker razor. Was glad to see you made this video specific to the Parker because I am betting there are differences albeit they may not be significant. Glad you're happy w/it so I don't have to return it. Can you advise if the Shavette is also known as model SRW?
hey fellow leatherneck, 1st LAR Supply ... im a barber i just bought this. i like it cause when i shave my clients it gets real precise just what i need for edge ups and side burns but the way you use it on the face give me more confidence in using it....... ps i know u use the classic lather but ever tried a product called Bump Off? its a shaving gel from sallys i like to see you review the shave gel thats what i use
Thank you. I am just getting the hang of using a shavette, so tend to nick myself quite a lot but i am improving with every shave. The sequence and direction of passes that you demonstrated were quite helpful. What is your recommendation for small cuts, i currently use aftershave and moisturising face cream.
bought one of these for my under the nose area and adam's apple which I always have a problem with. I use it as a touch up and detail razor and it works fantastic. in addition it uses the same blades as my DE razor so it's a great extra for anyone's arsenal. recommend even if you don't shave your entire face with it. ps Geo, mentioning prices on your videos is not a good idea, in a year or two they might change and you'll have to edit, reupload or annotate them. keep up the good work
I have to say that thanks to your videos, my first shave wasn't so bad. I still have A LOT to learn, but I am getting there. I definitely will be checking out your store for future purchases. Also, I know if really depends on the person, but does anyone know what is generally considered the best blades out there?
i've toyed with the idea of getting a straight razor for years but never got one due to sharpening and honing it, and seeing videos about "what sharpening block to use". I'm sick of my DE so I'll have to try one of these..
Great shave and products ! I looked up for the chrome handle brush on shave nation. The pure badger is out of stock and there is mixed badger. Will you restock on the pure badger brush or any other badger grade in this chrome handle?
Great video! I have a question though... I bought a shavette and all the accessories just like you have in that video. I spent a lot of time researching the proper technique, and found some conflicting information... Some people said you should NEVER go against the grain of the hair with a straight razor or a shavette, only with the grain and across. Others said that doing the first pass with the grain and the second pass directly against the grain will give the closest shave. I did it this way, and my face was very smooth and free of any irritation. Is there some reason I shouldn't be going against the grain?
I just wonder if the halfblade can be turned over for further use or if he s talking abt the other half, the half he broke off. I thought only one edge per side was sharp
"If it was easy girls would do it" - LMAO. How much flak did you get for that comment, Geo? HAHAHA!!!
Made me laugh too!
face shaving is the last stronghold of men :)
Unless... th-cam.com/video/EA3LPt83QAc/w-d-xo.html
I told him I hope his wife wasn’t going to see this or he’s in trouble😬

I appreciate how complimentary you are and encouraging to all of us new folks. Thanks for being the voice of confidence to us.
Geo Rocks! :)
Bryan Wickel
Thanks!

Geo,
I just finished my first shave with my first straight razor...you sir are a master! I dont know what i was doing before tonight but it wasnt shaving. And I gotta say you make it look so easy, only those brave souls that have tried this themselves know just how skilled you are. THANK YOU for these vids!!!!
Did you figure it out yet
I just started shaving with a straight razor style blade and bought a shavette a few weeks ago. Super sharp and can go through my 5 day growth just like in this video. I do three passes and its so smooth, such a great shave. Definitely recommend it.
I'm 25 and now realize that i've never had a decent shave in my life. Time to get real about it.
Hey! Im interested to know how that went for you? Any updates?
Andy Freeman andy my boy how u been mannn i miss u bro
Using proper razors will save you big money as the years pass.
He’s my cuzzo poor Andy freeman got hurt so bad by that razor
@@calixxlivin i tried a straight razor shave, knicked my carotid, bled out and died. I'm typing this from heaven and am fully bearded now.
This guy has taught me how to shave with a straight razor as well a safety razor, this man taught me what my dad did not
Thanks Akshay! I'm happy to help!
I don't have a beard. Or really any facial hair.
Yet I watch all of these videos. THEY'RE SO CALMING.
Every time he shaved his chin area I found myself pulling the same face as him.
Thanks again,
TJ

17:38-20:28 third pass
20:52-21:28 fourth pass
thank you soon much. I shaved with a Parker for the first time today after watching some of your videos and I didn't cut myself. and the shave was such a memorable experience. I can't thank you enough.
Just used a shavette for the first time. I have the cuts to prove it. This video is helping me learn from my mistakes. LOL
Because that's what brought me here I've had this same type razor for two weeks now but still to scared to try it
The look of surprise near the end shows how impressed you are with the razor.
thank you I just got my first Shavette Straight Razor and have watch a few videos ,yours are the best and with what I have learned from you I feel I have a better understanding on how to do it the right way
Just finished my first go with this, what a harrowing experience!
Rome wasn't built in a day. Muscle memory is your friend.
I love the feather japanese style razor with their blades. Incredible shave.
LOL...I was going to order this for my brother's birthday...had no idea shaving for men can be so complicated!
Just got one of these for Christmas. Tried a feather in it (I use feathers in my DE, which admittedly is an adjustable that I keep on a low setting) and it tore my face up. Thanks for the video, I like seeing someone experienced with shaving use it.
This is my first straight razor and been using this Parker for about 3 months, and pretty much like it.
gonna toss your other razor ? LOL
Yes, I donated my plastic razors to a donation box, but still use my electric for quick touch ups when time is short.
Thank you for showing me how to really shave! GeoFatboy you are the best.
I keep watching all youtube vids and hope I will get better.
with practice you will get better man. don't get discouraged, it's all about angles!
third day and making a mess of it. especially spots. the local barber told me to keep doing....it has less irritaion than the conventional blades....use warm water and sudsy soap to get better results
Thanks for asking this question, I have the same problem , too
All about the angle’s and pressure man
i have one of these and they are very good!! in the uk we can get 50 de derby blades (100 shavette blades) for about £5 and with Taylor of Old Bond Street just a 20 min journey away, I was ready to go!!
definitely recommended for those looking to get into shaving with a single blade
"Clear the runways" - you should copyright that phrase Geo! Great stuff as usual.
I usually hold the straight razor with only own dominant hand but you can use both😲 Good work👏
I've found if you strop a new blade lightly before a shave, it will perform much better. No scratches or irritation. A tip for sensitive skin types.
I ordered a Parker shavette the other day waiting for it to arrive from Ebay never used one before but don't think I'll have a problem
oh man my first pass with a shavette was brutal. (after using a DE safety for 6 years!) but fortunately only minor cuts that soon dissapeared. I must have had 2 much angle cuz the blade didn't want to move. This will definitely take some practice
Get a few more shaves in, you'll get the hang of it. It's all about the muscle memory!
(I will watch this video again, once or twice, to reinforce what you showed/taught, as well as for enjoying the jokes and their "delivery" again.)
I have one question.
I'll break it down and make it simple:
Start with an affordable shavette, easy to load, the hinged type: bit.ly/HingedShavetteSN
Watch the video and practice the movements without the blade installed: th-cam.com/video/9IGMcZjTWOw/w-d-xo.html
When you feel comfortable, insert the blade and shave one or both cheeks (they are the easiest areas to shave)
Finish up that shave with your safety razor
Subsequent shaves try to complete a bit more each shave with the shavette razor-still finishing with the safety razor
Soon you'll be able to shave your entire face with the shavette razor
Then you can move to a traditional straight razor: bit.ly/StraightRazorsSN
im new to the shavette style razor.
Thanks for the Honesty ! 20 bucks and boom ...Your a good man Pyezon !
Thanks James!
Geo (hope that is your name, couldn't find any other reference to it),
Thanks for making this video, I'm a long time fan of classic wet shaving (thanks to Corey at Shaveblog).
Thanks.
Really nice video. Just started out shaving with a shavette last week. Luckily no cuts yet. Still working on the technique
Nice work Raj! The next step is a traditional straight razor. Enjoy!
@@geofatboy thanks for responding. Motivation 🙏 I need to explore a good one . Parker doesn't make it and Amazon usa charges 4-5times more here
what was the blade? Feather?
After toying with the idea of buying a straight razor and wondering what to buy for a beginner, will i take to it, what if i cant master the stropping and honing ect ect and genrally doing my head in i decided to try the parker one you just used first as its a cheaper option and hopefully give me an insite into straight razor shaving.
Great vid by the way mate and you make it look so easy Lol.
I just bought a shavette and some supplies from your website. Great video, thank you.
Peace.
Still a great video Geo. This is the first video I watched to learn to shave with a SR. You Da Man!
Thanks for these. I just ordered a Parker so your Teachings hit the spot.
Great video.. but I am hardcore one handed. I would do a great job with my right hand.. then switch to my left hand and decapitate myself :(
You can complete the shave with one hand as well.. You just need to find the proper positioning.
I tried a straight razor a couple years back and had that problem. I decided it would be best for my health if I just got rid of it. Lol
Great video, I just bought a shavette, probably gonna buy the brush, bowl and shaving cream soon
As usual another great shave by the master.
i bought the exact same model as the one in the video,i was used to using safety razors and i really did get a bit cut and a little razor burn but if you dont make many mistekes and dont push to hard on the skin you will get the hang of it in a metter of weeks and youl get a prettt good shave but the first 3 or 4 times shaving expect some nicks and cuts
Love straight razer in a display box
***** non shaving related question-did you serve in the marines?
Just ordered a Parker. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
There's something soothing about watching a man shave. :3
hey fellow leatherneck, 1st LAR Supply ... im a barber i just bought this. i like it cause when i shave my clients it gets real precise just what i need for edge ups and side burns but the way you use it on the face give me more confidence in using it....... ps i know u use the classic lather but ever tried a product called Bump Off? its a shaving gel from sallys i like to see you review the shave gel thats what i use
Fantastic video makes me feel confident for when I start shaving with my DE blade. I will check your other videos out.
shave nation or west coast shaving are both good.... just check the web they are all over!! happy shaves!!!
Yes, we will be getting more!
I truly enjoyed this entire video. Thank you.
I just wonder if the halfblade can be turned over for further use or if he s talking abt the other half, the half he broke off. I thought only one edge per side was sharp
